  • Thanks Man I appreciate it. Yeah my voice has been an issue for me too. I had many different feelings of pain beside I have middle ear damage and inner ear damage. I can talk a little now, but I usually have to be wearing plugs. Thin shooting muffs are the most comfortable to wear when I'm talking. It does amplify my voice. Plugs are iffy they can amplify my voice.
Don't let the nox get worse avoid any noise triggering it. I payed the price for letting it progress. It's a nasty condition man.

Thanks man, been following your story since last year. I'm truly sorry for what you are dealing with.

How do I protect against my own voice causing the worst of my pain? My nox on the right side seems to radiate through my neck when I speak up…
Getting used to new T. Progressing noxacusis is starting to really scare me though…
Of course I am not correlating this at all, but man every night that I take magnesium and melatonin before bed the next day is much quieter.

Melatonin and Tru Niagen both lower my tinnitus. Magnesium actually makes it really hissy and fills my head with it though. It also made my loudness hyperacusis sensitivity much worse when I had it. It's strange how various supplements effect us differently.
Oh also: lost my hi-fidelity ear plugs somehow…of course the day we had a work luncheon. Was able to make it through with no setback!
Decent day today. Fan in room, as well as central air at the office today was not much of an issue!
I've habituated twice in my life already and facing a third. Just so frustrated that this is my life at 28.

@Matt G I can attest to reactivity adding complexity because I have it too (9 months in). Good days, not so good days, good days again. Are you able to move desks for a while if the office aircon is aggravating?
    Matt G
@UKBloke chirp was way less reactive and noticeable today! As you said, good days and not so good days…truly is a battle, but a small victory along the way really helps the mind.

Hi Matt, I just wanted to comment as I can relate.

My left ear has always been my worst. It is an aggressive hiss, but thankfully, over the last 2 years I have managed to habituate.

However, a few months ago my right ear started to chirp and reacts to exactly the same stimulus that you describe.

Like you, I'm struggling to habituate with this one, but I'll get there I'm sure. Hang on in there!
After having this for many years, I know how this goes sadly. chirp/increased Tinnitus in my right ear is probably here to stay.
Does anyone else get a pure sense of dread when you wake up and hear T? I cannot seem to shake this off this time around.
    Matt G
@GoatSheep not scaring me whatsoever. I really appreciate your insight. I am not protecting 24/7, but moving forward I am getting much more serious about protecting while out. I've seen similar cases to mine improve, and worsen. Based on what I've seen, most people that have been successful in recovery have walked a fine line of protecting and not protecting.

Also, @GoatSheep no shit you live in Columbus too? I think I know which record store you are talking about…

Anyways, we should definitely keep in touch throughout the next months/years. It would be great to have a friend in town that understands and wouldn't mind doing quite hobbies together once this all passes over. Feel free to DM me.

Oh I didn't mean you should protect 24/7. I meant I'm in 24/7 protection because my worsening is that severe from things I wouldn't expect. I'm honestly in shock at how bad I'm doing. I'm almost homebound at this point and getting pain whenever I don't have protection on within minutes. I'm probably in for a long haul of recovery now sadly.
What bothers me the most is how this will affect my relationships. I was just feeling comfortable dating again after a 6 year relationship..
Wow - what a sick joke. Experiencing pain hyperacusis for the first time today. Still going to remain strong and optimistic.
Coming to terms with our conditions, like many other struggles in life, is the first true step to recovery. Acceptance & positivity today.
Starting to narrow down what makes the chirp come back… Looks like it's back to ear plugs in restaurants :(

@Damocles thank you for the kind words, and giving me some helpful information. I just ordered some curcumin supplement with added ginger/pepper extract.

I try to keep up with everyone's stories as much as possible, but remind me again, did you ever have/still have pain hyperacusis?
    Damocles
Yeah, I still suffer pain hyperacusis to a tiny degree, @Matt G. But it is miniscule in terms of what I once suffered.

My tinnitus became severe and I developed severe hyperacusis in 2009. From there it was an uphill struggle with anxiety, isolation and set backs. However after (coming up for) 13 years, my tinnitus and hyperacusis are finally stable, and allow me to live a semi-full life.
    Matt G
My man, I am so sorry @Damocles. No human being should ever have to experience this for one single day, let alone 13 years.

I am so happy for you and the progress that you have made so far. I'm sure you wish it was sooner, but just know you provide me with great inspiration that things will get better eventually.
Chirp is either gone completely today, or incredibly thin to where it's a non issue. Central air at the office not bothering me like normal.
Good day today. Not correlating this to me feeling better, but have been taking lots of magnesium, Omega 3, and melatonin for sleep.
I will admit: my ENT was incredibly knowledgeable about T/H and provided me with lots of good info. His thoughts: T increased due to Covid..
    Lurius
You may, possibly, have encountered one of the few decent ENT's in the entire world. Great choice there! :)
    Matt G
@Lurius yea I went to him 6 months ago when it first got out of control. He was calm and collected and explained that "reactive" T is just H and that most people with this subset do get better with time. To his credit, from 6/11/21 - 12/21/21 H and T slowly subsided to non issue.

    Fucking Covid… :(
ENT appointment was this morning. Perfect hearing, pressure in ears great, otherwise in great shape. Referred to T management clinic
Tried wearing ear plug in bad ear watching shows with my friends and TTTS went out of control. I'm now considering this a setback.
Man, this chirp is killer. Is incredibly reactive to basically all noise. As soon as noise subsided, so does the chirp…
    Matt G
Ahh I see. Yea, I mean that's the best we can do, right? It is a really difficult mindset to foster, especially when tones are very intrusive.

I also "spike" to any white noise, as well as artificial audio…
    Wrfortiscue
@Matt G just have to keep building and training the brain it takes a long time
    Matt G
@Wrfortiscue heard that! In my post history you can see my progress on my started thread about ear infection last June. New tone and reactive T slowly dissipated to non issue by December. Hoping for the same this time around :)
Posted about my relative silence I experienced after a really scary fleeting tinnitus episode. Unfortunately chirping came back yesterday…
    Matt G
@Steph1710 just developed it a month and a half ago…truly the most annoying T I've been dealt. Pure tones come no where close to this…
    Steph1710
@Matt G 100% agree! I can ignore the pure tones, but I can't adjust to the chirp.
    Matt G
I just hate how it comes and goes. One day it will be really quite, the next it'll be moderate. It was very intrusive a few weeks ago. Maybe progress?
