  • Insane increase in my T from walking outside in the city without plugs. It was 70 dB max there, wow.
Still getting worse. A wavering 16-18 kHz tone pierces through everything. WTF?
    aura
Do you hear the clicking sounds all the time? Like a morse code?
    Kriszti
@aura Could the clicking be myoclonus? Either palatal or MEM?
    Tau
@aura Yes, but I don't feel any vibration, so I am unsure if it's myoclonus. They're quiet, about 0-3 dB. Meanwhile the high freq ones are 40+ dB.
Washed the car with a pressure washer without plugs. 5 minutes. Big mistake, clicking T sounds are louder.

I make this mistake all the time. I understand as it can be torture to hear our noises full blast
My THI is 88. Wow. How can this be the case when my audiograms are fine?
    Christiaan
Yeah, I think there's no strong correlation between those two (THI was 92 back in July 2020). There's a theory that some brains are more susceptible to maladaptive neuroplasticity due to hearing loss than others (e.g. people with ADHD, autism, hypersensitivity, anxiety disorders, etc.)
    Stacken77
I completely agree with @Christiaan. The problem is most likely in the predisposition of the brain. I have tinnitus in my genes. My audiogram is fine, yet this is blasting disproportional loud sometimes.

Anxiety makes sense, I am definitely prone to it. The whole thing happened because I was too anxious about my new Morse code T.
Why am I getting worse every day? No noise exposure, I am sitting at home playing games without sound. H and T worsening.

@Damocles I am a coffee snob, so this may be a good idea. I have 3 different kind of beans at home, a burr grinder and a pourover setup. The trouble is that I am sensitive to caffeine and can't sleep if I have more than 10 g of coffee (bean weight) per day.
    Damocles
Dude, same. I'm a TEA snob and I love Greens and Whites; however I too suffer caffeine sensitivity, so my max is 2 cups a day (and I frequently go over this, aka, overdose; then can't sleep for like 24 hours...)

I love good tea, too. We probably have more than 10 different kinds at home. Current favourites are Gyokuro and some Chinese Pu-Erh from Yunnan.
Audiogram still normal, all the way up to 16 kHz. But music sounds worse, and T is reactive and always audible.
Dexamethasone shot in 30 minutes, hoping it will kill the new distortions/T sounds. I feel like dying would be amazing now...
I could hear my high frequency T over the MRI sounds. Wow.
    Confirmed cochlear synaptopathy. Sucks.
    SD7
Hope your sound distortion are subsiding

Thanks, but they are due to hearing loss, so they're exactly the same... I'm not very hopeful - I can't listen to complex music at all, the most I can listen to is mellow jazz (and even that has hissing drums).
    SD7
Keep the faith. Although jury is out on the drugs efficacy their true aim is hearing loss
One of the top ENTs of my country has officially confirmed I have synaptopathy based on a battery of ABR tests... :/
    Tau
Auditory brainstem response. I managed to get to a good doc who knows her stuff. Minor abnormalities show neuropathy - IHCs/OHCs seem to be fine, but the signal does not reach my brain properly. And since it's noise induced, it's going to be synaptopathy as those are the first to go.
    aura
    Is the ABR test loud?
Louder than the acoustic reflex testing?
    Tau
It can go up to and including 90 dB, if I recall correctly.
My T reacts to my car's pedestrian warning hum... Uh, can't drive with the windows down.
    Exit
    Awful...
Stupid pedestrian shouldn't walk in the road anyway...
    Tau
Hahah, it's only on at low speeds since the car is pretty much quiet otherwise (EV).
No improvement in over a month after my acoustic trauma. Maybe less aural fullness, that's it.
    Matchbox
you honestly will be fine if it's only ringing or static. It will get quieter without further loud noise, it might take a year or even more. 6-9 months seems the sweet spot for first timers.
    Tau
It's multiple tones with reactivity and hyperacusis... Pretty trash :(
    SD7
You're in my thoughts Tau stay strong
My ENT tentatively agrees with 'hidden hearing loss', especially after hearing about my (stupid) frequency test. FML.
