Yes mine is worse at night - before bed, going to sleep, when I wake up - when I actually get up it tends to settle down very quickly. I suppose it's better than being loud all day.

Is there evidence that the brain learns tinnitus? Given that something must trigger the tinnitus in the first place isn't it more likely that the continued noise is due to that trigger remaining?

I think you are mixing up "too well" with " too much". Assuming the implied cause of tinnitus is correct of course. I don't see it as at all problematic to define what a fix would be - eliminate the sound tinnitus sufferers hear or reduce it to a level which no longer causes them stress...
