Tinnitus Ramps Up in Hearing Protection

When you reduce external sounds like that, your tinnitus can seem much louder. I’ve been using the new Apple AirPods for hearing protection whenever possible. They provide hearing protection with audio pass-through, which limits the number of decibels reaching your ears while still allowing you...

Seeking Insights on Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy for Tinnitus: Ketamine, Psilocybin, or Ibogaine?

Anecdotally, I can report that Psilocybin has no effect on my tinnitus but I've never done a "heroic dose." I've tried Ketamine (full dissasociative dose) and found it had no effect either.

Repeated Bilateral Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation over Auditory Cortex for Tinnitus

Finally got my device from NYU Langone! It was custom-made to position the anode and cathode over the appropriate brain region. I did my first session with them this morning, which lasted 20 minutes. They suggested that I play my tinnitus tone at a low volume during the treatment. This isn't...

    Back to Silence

Thank you for the response, @Henry Orlando FL. I’m very interested to hear if anyone with constant, unmaskable tinnitus has used this method successfully. If so, how did you approach noting your response to tinnitus that doesn’t come and go but is instead constant? Did you make just one note...

    Back to Silence

Henry, thanks for the response. This approach feels very familiar from my experience with meditation. In Anapanasati meditation, the focus is on the breath, and you note each time your attention drifts from it. This practice is quite similar. I go about my day and note whenever my attention...

    Back to Silence

I have a similar question as @Francesco. My tinnitus is constant, and the only thing that masks it is the sound of the shower. So, I’m pretty much always hearing it. My attention shifts from what I’m doing (watching TV, talking to someone, typing this response) back to my tinnitus about every 10...

Working Towards Better Healthcare Interventions for Tinnitus: a Brain Stimulation StudY (WHITBY)

It’s great to see another clinical trial starting! However, I’m curious about one of the inclusion criteria: “Suffering from subjective idiopathic tinnitus.” Does this mean that if you know the cause of your tinnitus, such as noise exposure, you’re ineligible?

This is pretty exciting: https://www.apple.com/airpods-pro/hearing-health/ Apple is releasing earbuds that double as clinical-grade hearing aids. Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

I think it's white noise passed through two band-pass filters: one at the tinnitus frequency and one at the hearing loss frequency. Then, somehow, they are mixed back together to create one sound. I'm not an audio engineer, but I dabble. So I guess we would need to find out from the study: How...

Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

The study follows a specific protocol for generating sound using white noise, which is then processed through two band-pass filters: one for the tinnitus frequency and another for the hearing loss frequencies. You would need someone with audio engineering skills to create this type of sound. I...

Investigation of the Effectiveness of Sound Enrichment in the Treatment of Tinnitus Due to Hearing Loss

Reading the paper, it seemed like creating a specific sound for each person is somewhat of an audio engineering challenge. It requires various filters and audio mixing techniques. I’d be very interested in trying this at home, but I’m not sure my relatively basic audio engineering skills are up...

MDMA (a Component of Ecstacy) Potential for the Treatment of Tinnitus

From what I have read, MDMA is not a good candidate for microdosing. Unlike other hallucinogens, such as mushrooms or LSD, MDMA has no noticeable effect until it reaches a certain threshold dose, at which point it produces a significant impact. In contrast, very low doses of LSD or mushrooms...

Hearing Aids with Notch Therapy — Post Your Experience!

There seems to be some confusion in this thread about what Notch Therapy actually is. As I understand it, the core concept involves reducing the volume of the audio signal reaching your ear, but only for the frequencies around your tinnitus. For example, my tinnitus is around 4300 Hz. To apply...

NeuroMed Tinnitus Program — Founded by Dr. Hamid Djalilian

Is it just me, or does this study seem poorly designed? There's no control group, a small sample size, and the outcome measures are subjective. It seems like it would have been useful to at least modify the regimen for different subsets of participants. For example, Group A could follow the...

Yeah, that's my understanding as well. They are just teaching you techniques. There's no patient/therapist bond or rapport component in CBT. TRT would be awkward to do online because they need to do the tone tests and re-program your in-ear masker (if that's what you are using).
