6 Years Later, Tinnitus Does Not Matter to Me Anymore

@PDodge, congrats my friend. I'm really happy to see you have moved on so much. It is incredible how fast the years pass, I feel like it was just a short time ago that I registered on Tinnitus Talk and read your and others' stories in search for some hope. Now it is also for me 5 years since...

Flying and Air Pressure — Tips for Hearing Protection on Flights

I just had two 9-hour flights and had no problems with deep inserted foam earplugs during ascent or descent. I wore them from the airport all the way to the hotel room. Just open your mouth, chew gum and see that your ears equalize. Noise-canceling headphones over them also eliminate the low hum...

Poll: Do You Wear Earplugs at Restaurants?

Yes, they had the little handle and that one always stood out. When I insert foam earplugs, they are invisible from the front but the orange color is pretty obvious from the side. I’ll try now black foam earplugs and cut them a bit. I never notice occlusion with foam earplugs, on the contrary...

Poll: Do You Wear Earplugs at Restaurants?

Are there people here who have to handle business meetings in restaurants? How do you handle dinners with clients? I always try to choose quieter restaurants (luckily nearly no restaurant here has any kind of music) but when there are lots of people, it can sometimes get loud. I found some black...

    Sizzling/Hissing Noise in Head

I still have my normal baseline tinnitus, this noise was just noticeable enough to write about it. But yeah, pretty happy that it faded so quick. Just give it more time, hopefully it will resolve or lessen in the coming months.

    Sizzling/Hissing Noise in Head

No no, this noise was gone in a few days or a week, if I remember correctly. I meant that for the first two years similar noises did come and go, after that it was mostly baseline tinnitus with little variation.
  14. Deamon22

    Sizzling/Hissing Noise in Head

Yes, gone completely. Sometimes similar sounds creep back in but I don’t think I ever again had the same noise as back then. Most of these strange sounds did come and go in my first one or two years; the last two years have been mostly the same.

How Loud Are Cruise Ships and Motorboats?

I was in my car with the windows up and did not notice anything loud while disembarking. The only remotely loud thing was a beeping when one of the ramps moved down, but then I just kept my windows closed. And of course the noise from the other cars in the ship. If someone wants to be on the...

How Loud Are Cruise Ships and Motorboats?

Back from holidays, the ferry for 10 hours was super quiet, no noise whatsoever. Especially the cabin way totally quiet. Also no foghorn (at least I didn’t hear one). We didn’t use a speedboat/motorboat on our excursion but a sailboat. The skipper just used the motor for a few short times, so...

Driving a Car in Heavy Rain/Storm — Decibels?

Hailstorm in the car is pretty loud (no idea of the dB, but I imagine high 80s?). I would wear foam earplugs in that situation. I also wear them for very strong rain.

How Loud Are Cruise Ships and Motorboats?

I will wear earplugs outside of the cabin and keep away from the foghorn or stay under deck. I traveled a few times with a cruise ship years ago but never remembered the foghorn as particularly loud on deck.

How Loud Are Cruise Ships and Motorboats?

Thanks for the advice. We travel by night so we will probably go from the car straight to the cabin, however I will stay away from the foghorn. I wear foam earplugs when outside the cabin. Hearing Protection and Tinnitus: Keep The Tiny Hair Cells Safe — Discuss!

Yeah, talking can be a bit challenging and you also get a closed off feeling. But I never found them uncomfortable. Inserting them is really easy if you practice it a few times. Hearing Protection and Tinnitus: Keep The Tiny Hair Cells Safe — Discuss!

I personally use 99% of the time foam earplugs. They block sometimes out a bit too much but I can understand speech most of the time still pretty good. I personally struggle a lot with custom or musician earplugs, either they don't fit very good or they don't create the right seal. I don't...

Huge Tinnitus Spike After Driving in a Car — Or Could This Be Linked to Hay Fever?

If anything the road noise and no earplugs COULD have spiked your tinnitus, since headphones normally don‘t give any protection (aside from maybe a few dB). But normal car travel is not very loud, so I would just give the ears a rest and hopefully after a while the spike will subside.

Huge Tinnitus Spike After Driving in a Car — Or Could This Be Linked to Hay Fever?

A lot of spikes from what I read on here start to fade after a while. It could also be that part of the spike is because of the allergies. However, I personally would use foam earplugs for longer drives. Don’t worry about the occlusion effect, at least I notice it way more with other earplugs...
