New to This Ringing, Not Doing So Well

@Adam R My T definitely got better over time though it took months. In the beginning my T would wake me up at night. In the stillness of the night it felt like the loudest sound ever. I would often use an app with the sound of a loud ticking clock or ocean waves. Mine induced panic attacks and...

My Story — Paracetamol Greatly Reduces Ringing 10 Minutes After Taking It

@Chris McMurray @Philippe79 Paracetamol reduces my T too although I only tend to use it when I need to take it for other reasons (headaches etc). My T was noise induced and is still very reactive to noise. After a day in the classroom or a long drive for instance. Paracetamol definitely...

    Tinnitus & Plane Safety

I found that the EarPlanes did cut out some noise. I suppose it depends on whether your main worry is the noise or the pressure. Mine was the latter as I've flown several times a year during the five years I've had T, but never before with ETD. The noise Level during the flight has never had an...

    Theory About Tinnitus Fluctuations (Sleep)

Bizarrely and contrary to most people, I'm better sleeping on my T ear. My T is much quieter if I do. Only ever wake up to loud T in the night if I sleep on my non T ear. ;)

    Tinnitus & Plane Safety

Hi. Just this week I have flown for the first time since my T worsened at Christmas due to ETD. My ears were quite full & crackling beforehand and I was struggling with pressures. I used the EarPlanes ear plugs. I found sucking menthol sweets more effective than chewing but basically anything...

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: Tinnitus Can Be Cured?

@Ernesto Hello. Yes my ear got a lot worse than it was but I'd still describe it as moderate at its worst. My Dr was convinced my T would improve once my Eustachian Tubes cleared up. Things are getting slowly better so I haven't considered any other treatments. My T is however quite reactive so...

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: Tinnitus Can Be Cured?

@Ernesto Hi. I have had increased T since Christmas (previously very very mild) due to a combination of an upper respiratory infection/ sinusitis/ Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Since then I've suffered with ear fullness, periodic ear pain, crackling and a difficulty in coping with pressure...

    Is This Normal Tinnitus Behavior?

@devonlee I totally agree! Am learning that! Have realised that what I eat or drink doesn't effect my T. I can't take ibuprofen any more while paracetamol will soften it. It's all about knowing your own T isn't it? Just wanted to check that I wasn't doing damage. I'm a primary teacher and my...

    Is This Normal Tinnitus Behavior?

@devonlee Thank you for putting my mind at rest. My T is thankfully only in my left ear and is hard to describe. Over the weeks since my illness it has subsided to a kind of undulating fizzing ring. Easier to ignore than the constant high pitched ring of a few weeks ago but still as effected by...

    Is This Normal Tinnitus Behavior?

@Cameron C Thank you for your reply. I don't feel my T competes with sound at the point of hearing it, it's just an after effect. I thought it might be reactive T but wasn't sure because it's kind of delayed. Im sure you are right though as it seems logical. It doesn't make me anxious but I was...

    Is This Normal Tinnitus Behavior?

As I explained in my intro, I had very very mild T for five years after a concert. Following a virus and sinusitis at Christmas my T worsened. It has improved greatly over past few weeks and is now 2/10 most of the day. However if I am in any environment other than my home such as a car, a...

    Flying for the First Time

@Marijana Hi! I went to Poland for a few days this week so had two 2 hour flights. My previously very mild T increased at Christmas as a result of a virus / sinus infection. I have also had mild ETD and have been struggling with pressure in my ears so was panicking about flying. I googled lots...

Loud Tone for a Few Seconds — Fleeting / Transient Spontaneous Tinnitus

Yesterday my non T ear suddenly felt as if something had hit my ear drum from the inside (only way I can describe it). Almost like a silent boom. It wasn't painful in any way just weird! Then my T ear went silent for about 30 seconds. It felt incredibly weird.....the silence was eerie, scary...

Does Anyone Have Crackling in Their Ear When They Swallow? If So, How to Treat?

@MichaelOS I have T that was worsened by a bad cold / virus at Christmas. Have been suffering fullness in my ears connected to ETD since New Year. My left ear crackles and pops. The reason I'm telling you is you mentioned flying and I've just flown back from Warsaw today and my ears were fine...

Need Help and Opinions — Tinnitus Caused by Air Pressure?

@buzztone Hi. I'm so relieved someone else gets the pressure thing too! Do you find it's sometimes worse in certain rooms of your house? Sometimes my T can go mad in my living room, I walk into kitchen and the pressure goes and T lowers. It's my left ear too. Steph

Need Help and Opinions — Tinnitus Caused by Air Pressure?

My ear is worse when I'm sat in a car with all the doors and windows closed. My ears instantly feel really full and pressurised. I need the window open a fraction. The same happens if I'm momentarily in the porch with both doors closed. Certainly didn't cause my T though or even cause a spike...

    Teachers with Tinnitus

Hi....any teachers out there with Tinnitus? I have had mild to moderate T (ringing in one ear) since a virus at Christmas. I had very very very mild T for five years prior to that from a rock concert. My question is should I protect my ears in the classroom? I don't want to over protect but...

Poll: How Often in the Past 2 Months Have You Had Dreams at Night?

I'm a bit intrigued by my T at the moment as night time (as in when I'm in bed) is when I hear it least?! But then it hits me when I wake up. I dream far less now than I did before my T worsened. It was extremely mild before. Steph

Definite Spike from Decongestant — Please Help!

Hi. My T reacts badly to decongestants too but normally settles down after a few hours. I avoid Sudafed like the plague. I have some paracetamol that also contain a mild decongestant. Am okay with those. Hope you are feeling better. Steph

Dream Woke Me Up to Loudest Tinnitus Yet

@Jake007 I was prescribed Beta Blockers for my anxiety and panic attacks pre T. They combat the symptoms of a panic attack by lowering the heart rate. Most people take them at regular intervals but I was told to take them when I felt an attack coming on. Mine are called Propranolol.

Dream Woke Me Up to Loudest Tinnitus Yet

This happened to me! Only have T in left ear but woke up to it filling my whole head with loudest sound imaginable. Shot out of bed and had to resort to a beta blocker. Calmed myself down and went into the garden (always lower sound outside). Nodded off eventually through anxiety induced...

The Worst It's Ever Been (Possibly Because of a Beta Blocker)

Hi. Yes I'm on beta blockers and some days they do seem to temporarily increase the volume of my T. I only take them when needed, not at regular intervals, so it's been harder to identify any correlation. Bizarrely, I've taken them more the last few days and my blocked feeling in my ears has...

    First Cold Since Tinnitus

Hi. Over Christmas and New Year I had a severe virus that lasted for three weeks and knocked me off my feet. During my illness I never noticed my mild T. Tinnitus Spike After Illness

Hi Glynis. Thank you for your reply. That all makes an enormous amount of sense. It just helps to hear it from someone else. I will start the nasal spray tomorrow and give it a chance. My ears do feel full and a little blocked. I have been masking at night and am sleeping relatively well. My...

    Tinnitus Spike After Illness

Hi all. I have had tinnitus in one ear (very, very mild ringing) for six years following a rock concert. Tinnitus Increased After a Virus

I first developed T about 6 years ago after a rock concert. It faded quite quickly to mostly only being able to hear it at night in a really quiet room. However, my T has always been very reactive to everyday sounds. For example, driving or being in a busy restaurant, a day in the classroom...
