    Anybody Here with Cochlear Implants?

My tinnitus has actually faded over the years to where I barely hear it anymore. Usually when I do, it’s in quiet and only lasts a min or so. I just get busy doing other things and it just goes away.

    Anybody Here with Cochlear Implants?

Yeah, the hope is my natural hearing can help my CI ear learn the sound. With the long term deafness on that side I will need all the help I can get.

    Anybody Here with Cochlear Implants?

Just wanted to post an update -- I had cochlear implant surgery this past Friday. It has only been two days, but I'm happy to report that I don't currently have any new tinnitus as a result of the surgery. That was one of my biggest fears with it. Just some dull pain and slight dizziness.

Wow. :( I occasionally come back to the forums to read the latest success stories and see what's new. I was not expecting this thread and am really sad to see it. I didn't really know him, but I do remember him always wanting to help and struggling so much to get better. The GoFundMe is a...

Cochlear Implants as a Treatment of Tinnitus

I'm going through the insurance approval process now for a CI myself, so no personal experience yet. But I have talked with many SSD people who got a CI. All the feedback I have heard has been positive as far as improving their overall hearing and reducing tinnitus while wearing the CI. There...

Cochlear Implants as a Treatment of Tinnitus

Cochlear implant surgery does damage the inner ear hair cells, but not as much as it used to. Surgery has gotten better, to the point where some people retain their residual hearing even after surgery. But who's to say that whatever cure they come up with wouldn't cause those hair cells to...

    Anybody Here with Cochlear Implants?

Thanks for sharing. Yes, it sounds like you had very good results at activation. I hope an updated mapping will help with the latest difficulty you are having. Did you have any side effects or tinnitus from the surgery itself? Or did the intrusive tinnitus come much later after surgery?

    Anybody Here with Cochlear Implants?

I'm meeting with a CI surgeon this coming week to discuss whether getting a CI is something that would benefit me or not. I'm curious to hear others' experiences. Do you have a Cochlear Implant? If so, can you share your story? I'm especially curious to hear whether it has impacted your...

    Deciding Whether to Have Children

That sort of thing was never a problem for me. Sure, I pay more attention to protecting my hearing these days, but I didn't let T&H keep me from enjoying normal everyday type activities. But sure, if a person is currently suffering from extreme anxiety, depression, having suicidal thoughts and...

    Deciding Whether to Have Children

My two boisterous kids are without question the best thing in my life. My second came about 6 months after the onset of tinnitus so it was a rough first year for me. But I don't regret having kids for a second. At this point a few years later, my hyperacusis/sound sensitivity is completely...

Hearing Aid Brands/Models That Work for Tinnitus

That's exactly the model I have as well. You should go back to your audiologist and let them know what it is doing because it should not do that. Mine actually worked great for about 10 months and then I had similar problems with it cutting out. They sent it back for a free warranty fix and...

    Hearing Aids

The only guarantee that I know being offered about hearing aids is that you can try them for a period of time (usually 1-3 months) and if you don't like them, you can return them without paying a cent. I've never heard anybody guarantee that they work for everybody. I'm sorry they apparently...

What Is Life Worth without Hearing Normally?

Exactly! It's the story of the wolf you feed. An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt...

Well the consult went OK for me. I was hoping to leave feeling more confident in one direction or the other. But the audiologist was very careful to make sure expectations were set low. It does seem there is a potential that I could have some benefit. With my long term loss, it's something...

Poll: Does Tinnitus Keep You from Having a Job?

I wouldn't call it a dirty secret, but you are right. Tinnitus is a possible side effect of a CI since the implantation usually results in damage of any residual hearing that is left. Generally, from what I have read about others' experiences, the CI often reduces tinnitus while it is being...

Think of it as a short term rehabilitation process. Commit to wearing one for 1 year, or until you reach a calmer state mentally. Then slowly wear it less and less. You don't have so bad of hearing loss that you really need it. But it could temporarily help with coping for awhile. -Mike
