I mean, you were cheering on $2,000 checks for every American.
Good point but the $2000 stimulus checks for Americans seem more in the centre than the left.

In New Zealand while we were in hard lockdowns for a month which forced some employees unable to work their usual hours were allowed to receive a wage subsidy for a maximum amount of 12 weeks where they could have received $350 NZD (Part-time) or $585.80 (Full-time).

This would have been more than the American stimulus checks if full time workers were able to claim the wage subsidy for 5 weeks or more and part time workers for 8 weeks or more.

Dave Rubin took the same quiz. Here are his results:

Who's easier to dunk on? Dave Rubin or Ted Cruz? Or both equally maxed out?

Any government help is considered far left socialism by many in the US.

Perhaps the test has an American bias. You may be moderate in your own country but in America, the $2,000 checks were a pretty solidly Democratic position. Most House Republicans voted against it. They ran against it in Georgia. They're against it now too, they tried to get Biden to cut the stimulus amount and eligibility. The right wing in America is firmly in opposition.

If you don't mind, answer the questions I posted above that I asked my right wing relative. I'm curious to see what you say.

I was thinking the same as well that it could be American bias and that's why these tests have been showing me as more left of centre and not centre or right of centre. I'll answer the questions then.

1. Are you in favor of healthcare for all like the Canadians have?
• Undecided - I see the pros and cons of both sides.

2. Should college be free?
• In New Zealand, universities are subsidised a lot for NZ citizens and PR (cheaper than paying for University in the USA) and recently they have allowed free tertiary education for the first year. I don't mind if the first year is free but they must finish their whole degree before they should get the benefit. Should your whole University degree be paid for free then I'm undecided on that. Maybe if they implemented something that only allows them to work in NZ for a certain amount of time if they want their University degree to be free before they can work overseas.

3. Should we have universal childcare?
• Yes.

4. Should we invest in our infrastructure with a focus on climate?
• Yes.

5. Are you in favor of universal paid family and medical leave?
• Yes.

6. Should we withdraw from the Middle East?
• Yes, I think some New Zealanders are there as well and I want them to withdraw from the Middle East as well.

In America, you'd be called a socialist for all that.

That's the thing, when I answered those questions it seemed reasonable and more align with centre or right of centre.

If the things I said were considered socialist viewpoints in America, there is a lot of work that needs to be done. I didn't think the things that I said were outrageous requests to begin with.

Yeah there definitely is a lot of work that has to be done here. I wish we were as forward thinking as New Zealand, where things like universal childcare is a centrist position. But tragically, we're so far right that even moderate government programs are considered far left.

At least America is ahead when it comes to recreational cannabis and CBD. We had a referendum in the last election and people voted no for recreational cannabis and CBD.

I guess the people that voted no have no idea how much it costs even if you get a prescription from the doctor. The problem is that the people that voted yes did not raise enough awareness of the yes vote. If they had mentioned that current costs were extreme and by allowing recreational use would have been so much cheaper and save the hassle from seeing a doctor.

I was completely shocked that the yes vote didn't go through. I was expecting NZ to allow recreational use.

Wow, that's insane. Now I'm a little crazy in the sense I'd like to see all drugs be made legal and OTC but at the very least cannabis should be legal. I'm shocked NZ voted it down, though the explanation makes sense. You gotta get out the vote.

I think most people that voted no were scared that this will cause more accidents e.g. driving. Cannabis and CBD is much safer while driving compared to drunk driving. Another reason why I wanted it to go through was that this would stop people dying from synthetic cannabis. NZ has a big issue when it comes to synthetic cannabis as it is mainly young people dying from it because the supplier is a POS.

I have been to NZ and even drove there. Hands down the scariest mountain drivers I have ever witnessed. People were flying full speed around curves. It would not surprise me at all if they had a high accident fatality rate. If anything, though, maybe weed would help them drive slower around hair pins :).

Honestly, it's my deeply held suspicion that a large segment of the population is further left then they think.
This is true and we have the right wing propaganda to thank for this. I'll watch Ben Shapiro spend 30 minutes talking about some straw man that I've never heard anyone on the left even care about.

Same with Fox News, OAN, Newsmax, Breitbart. Do people who hate AOC even know why at this point?

The main difference between the left and the right is that there's a seismic difference between the level of extremes that go mainstream. Sure, it's easy to find a crazy person on the left and rip them up, but on the right, this is commonplace.

Since you are an OAN and Newsmax watcher, are you aware that both issued statements retracting the Dominion allegations after reviewing the evidence and not finding it credible?
No, I never heard that. I just read that the Democrats want to close down Newsmax, OAN, and Fox News. I guess that's cancel culture. What is this country coming to wanting to stop our 1st amendment rights? I listen to whomever makes the most sense.

Here is a video of Newsmax's on air retraction:

Who is talking about closing down OAN and Newsmax? Where did you read this?

Speaking of cancel culture, this came out yesterday:

Conservative political conference CPAC drops speaker over anti-Semitic tweets

Do you think conservatives should be forced to give Young Pharaoh speaking time as not to "cancel" him?

Tucker Carlson calls the Canadian government authoritarian and COVID-19 policies Orwellian. He's absolutely right. Everything he says there is true. He could have mentioned Australia, especially Southern Australia, in his list of countries. But, the irony of Canada, being a liberal country, transforming into a draconian hellhole, was accurate.

WATCH: Tucker Carlson slams Canada's draconian lockdowns and Trudeau's illiberal authoritarian government

Although, I believe some American states became extreme. Some mothers were arrested for watching soccer in the stands, for example. Governments everywhere are becoming increasingly authoritarian, left-wing, right-wing, center assumptions mean squat.

Yeah, they really don't know why they hate her anymore, either that or it's a dumb cultural thing. Did you see what I wrote of my convo with a conservative relative a few posts ago? That's probably very common considering polls show that progressive priorities are popular when you strip the culture shit.

I think the detailed answers to those question are nontrivial, but they certainly are not ridiculous ideas.

Some roads in NZ aren't safe for driving. There have been accidents happening at the same place previously.

How was like driving on the other side of the road when you were in NZ?

It took a lot of getting used to but I was there for 3 weeks.

I suppose those were the good old days. That would be tough driving on the left side of the road. I suppose Australia is the same. It seems to be ass-backwards just like the left wing people.

lol we're really at a place where we are viewing left and right cardinal directions as things to be partisan about. Hey, I'm right handed so I'm so politically smart and Trump would love me. So funny.
