2020 US Presidential Election

Inflation has been cooked slowly by the ECB and the FED during the last decade. They are the ones that should be held accountable for creating this mess.
Fully agree this current inflation cycle has been percolating for years due to irresponsible central bank policies around the world. I believe there were other contributing factors that brought it all to a head, including the massive give-away programs by the government, major supply chain disruptions brought on by world-wide disastrous COVID-19 management policies, and more recently, the war in Ukraine.

While New Zealand increases interest rates again, those crooks from the Federal Reserve keep manipulating the stock market.

Jay Powell should quit. He does not have the guts to do what needs to be done.

People can't afford housing.
People can't afford insulin.
Skyrocketing inflation.

But let's focus on the important things like Hunter Biden's laptop.

The GOP in a nutshell.

All of these issues, and more, have become far worse since Biden has been President. He has to be stopped, and if he is in any way involved with his son's shenanigans, this may provide another way to help do it.

It is hard to believe that anybody was foolish enough to vote for him and that despicable excuse for a VP that he selected to be his running mate, to get votes and protect him from impeachment because she is an even worse excuse for a leader than he is.

What is socialism in the US, is extreme government regulation. Outlaw competition is socialism. Medicare is a form of health insurance that is provided to those that have paid into the service over the years. There are plenty of private health insurance options out there.
Hi @Greg Sacramento, I've been meaning to respond to one of your posts in the previous page. There are certain things I wanted to discuss.

First, I think we should define what socialism is. The way I've always defined it—Socialism is a system in which the state redistributes wealth from what it would be under a pure capitalist system. The means of productions are typically controlled by the state and the goal to provide a more fairer distribution of wealth among society—. There's also democratic socialism which shares similar economic principles to socialism but there's a strong commitment to democracy in the political system of government. Democratic socialists reject most self-proclaimed socialist states along with Marxism-Leninism. Feel free to object to this definition if you have any.

For some reason, Americans are scared of the word socialism. Most Americans often look to the unsuccessful ones like Venezuela or Cuba. But you have social democracies like Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, and Germany. These countries have robust economies (market) and high levels of socialization. Their governments see healthcare, education and even the internet as a fundamental right. They provide a good quality of life for their citizens. You don't have this gigantic gap between the working class and upper class. There is a commitment of the state to the well-being of their citizens and I wish we could adopt this kind of political philosophy in the United States.

I think the argument of socialism being wrong both morally and economically is absurd. If someone thinks it's wrong, then they have to believe government funding of police is wrong, or government funding of healthcare or schools are wrong, anything the government does is wrong. You're always going to have some state that's going to socialize certain things and so the question is not do we have socialization, it's how much.
These are not social programs. Social Security is a mandatory contribution to a program designed to assist people when they retire due to age or disability. It doesn't contribute to the national debt and would not have funding problems if the government had not stolen from it to fund social programs. Medicare has premiums which are paid by the subscribers and are based on income. Social Security recipients are taxed - a double tax from their working days. Welfare is not taxed.
I would say Social Security and Medicare are forms of democratic socialism, albeit loosely. You've already alluded to that by saying it's MANDATORY participation. Let's use Social Security (SS). The government plays a prominent role in the rules, collection, and distribution of SS funds. Government decides how much employees and employers pay into the system and what age people can start to collect (as early as 62). They also decide how much money people will receive in benefits. They prevent almost everyone from opting out of SS. 6.2% of your income is taxed along with another 6.2% that your employer is also required to pay up. I'm almost certain there are many people who would rather use the 6.2% to invest in equity than be compelled to contribute to a government program. Same thing would apply to Medicare although the tax rate is much smaller than SS.

So it seems fair to say there are some aspects of socialism in SS and Medicare at the very least. But I could also see why one would classify them as social insurance programs or social safety nets too. It's your money after all and if SS was truly a socialist program, the government would be distributing the same amount of compensation for each SS check.
Free, universal healthcare is certainly compatible with socialism. The more extreme the system, the more extreme the opposite. Thus, extreme capitalism is what leads to extreme socialist opposition.
I agree with this, that's why we need to be practical and reasonable if any meaningful change were to happen to our profit driven healthcare system. Universal healthcare would be too extreme for the US. I've always been in favor of a public option. Not only would a public option offer an optional healthcare plan to anyone who qualifies and want to opt in, but it would also increase competition, lower medical costs, and give people (especially business owners) the freedom to choose a health insurance plan that's more affordable and dependable. Private health insurances will still exist. I just want to see reductions in medical costs. It's gotten way out of hand. I think it's a complete travesty to see people go in debt because of healthcare. My healthcare plan sucks big time and I worry that I could be one medical emergency away from financial ruin at any moment.
Politicians bring up the subject that Social Security will soon go bankrupt if we don't make some changes. But somehow welfare programs, food stamps, and other sorts of taxpayer funded programs never seem to be in danger of going bankrupt.
Well, changes to SS will have to be made whether people like it or not. It's facing a depletion crisis. About a decade ago, the money flowing in stopped being more than the money being paid out. Annual payroll taxes are falling short of the annual payouts and eventually the interest payments from the Trust Fund (for social security) won't be enough to cover the payout difference. We're going to have to draw money from the Trust Fund (2.9 trillion) and by 2033 approximately, the money will run out.

The massive baby boomer generation who have been paying into these surpluses are starting to retire. Baby boomers are also living a lot longer because life expectancy has increased overtime. We haven't adjusted our policies accordingly. People over 55 will still be able to enjoy the lofty benefits of social security. But the benefits are going to be a lot less sweet for people under 55. I'm expecting a lesser amount of the promised benefits, a continual increase of the full retirement age, and SS costing me more as the income caps keep going up. I believe we'll also be subjected to income tax as well.
I've never heard them say that the food stamp or the welfare program is going bankrupt. But the one that actually has real investment money coming from our paychecks, suddenly that one's in danger of going bankrupt
People do cheat the system and we need better measures in order to prevent/limit these fraudulent practices from happening on a wide scale. The goal should be to help these people (excluding disabled bodies) as they work towards financial stability if they are able to. It shouldn't have to be permanent for most people.

But here's the thing about welfare, a lot of people genuinely depend on it. The majority of recipients especially for food stamps are children, the elderly, and people with disability. These programs need to exist for the sake of their well being.

So in other words, the GOP have no actual agenda other than Hunter's laptop. I've yet to see any policy proposals in regards to inflation from GOP house leadership. And January is almost here. Go figure.

The mortgage market is already suffering in the UK, with more mortgage applications rejected.

And interest rates just started going up. There are still many rate hikes ahead.

We were doing fine, under Trump, before the COVID-19 sanctions, most of which only did incredible harm and accomplished absolutely nothing. Anything that can suppress Biden and prevent more waste, expense and inflation, will help. We will find out soon whether the loss of the House to the GOP will be beneficial. I think and hope that it will be.

Breaking news: Biden sells out the unions that helped elect him. The railroad employees' unions have demanded paid sick leave, which they currently do not have, and are willing to strike to get it. I have no problem with what they are asking, but apparently, Joe Biden and his Democratic allies are on the side of the railroad corporations and will do everything possible to prevent the unions from striking to get what they deserve.

Rail unions decry Biden's call for Congress to block strike. Businesses praise the plan

A reason for this is that funds were stolen to pay for other social programs. Social Security and Security Disability benefits are taxed, and taxes goes to the Treasury. Other social programs are not taxed. Medicare isn't free and many of the benefits that the elderly need are not included in the Medicare program.

Back in the last century, it was difficult for most employed to save. In the 60's, some only making a $1.35 an hour.

People over 55 will still be able to enjoy the lofty benefits of social security

Social Security and Social Security Disability payments (our money) are a lot less than other free social program benefits. Much of your taxes are paying for those who could work. The greed associations don't care about the homeless, veterans, disabled, elderly, crime, drugs, energy and inflation. They care about votes with a controlling order ring.

I would say Social Security and Medicare are forms of democratic socialism, albeit loosely.

Z, just feel good in paying Social Security taxes for those hard workers who live in dumps and never made enough to fight today's inflation.

Heart for the uncared elderly and disabled that cry themselves into bed.

Biden has bitten the hands that feed him, the rail workers in unions that supported his election are now not even deserving of getting a single paid sick day at their jobs, according to Biden.

Progressives in Congress Begin to Push Back Against Biden Betrayal of Rail Workers

"What we're seeing is an inhumane deal being pushed onto workers even after a majority voted it down," said Rep. Jamaal Bowman.

Unions had originally asked for 15 paid sick days but are now demanding at least four. The railroad industry, which has raked in massive profits in recent years while driving workers into the ground, has refused to grant even a single paid sick day.

The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED), one of the major rail unions that voted to reject the tentative contract deal, said in a statement Tuesday that it is "deeply disappointed by and disagrees with" Biden's decision to pressure Congress to impose the inadequate agreement on workers.

"A call to Congress to act immediately to pass legislation that adopts tentative agreements that exclude paid sick leave ignores the Railroad Workers' concerns," BMWED added. "It both denies Railroad Workers their right to strike while also denying them the benefit they would likely otherwise obtain if they were not denied their right to strike."

"BMWED calls upon President Biden and any member of Congress that truly supports the Working Class to act swiftly by passing any sort of reforms and regulations that will provide paid sick leave for all Railroad Workers," the union continued. "BMWED will continue fighting for paid sick days for every Railroad Worker because it is unreasonable and unjust to insist a person perform critical work when they are unwell."

The ECB keeps the Eurozone interest rates 5 times lower than the inflation level (10% on average in Europe, although in reality inflation is twice that figure).

The ECB is just stealing money from the Europeans. Someone should force Lagarde to resign or just fire her. She's such a disgrace for Europe.

The new Democratic leader in the House has a history of election denying.

Republicans denounce new House Dem leader Hakeem Jeffries as an 'election denier'

Republicans blasted newly elected House Democratic leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries on Wednesday for repeatedly denying the legitimacy of former President Donald Trump's 2016 election.

The social media offensive came from both GOP lawmakers and the Republican National Committee shortly after Jeffries (D-NY) was elevated as the leader of his party in the lower chamber.

"Hakeem Jeffries called the 2016 election ILLEGITIMATE. Why are Democrats electing an ELECTION DENIER to lead their party? Where is the media outrage labeling Jeffries a THREAT to Democracy?" Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tenn.) said in a tweet Wednesday.

RNC staffer Kyle Martinsen tweeted out a thread highlighting eight times Jeffries "denied election results."

Martinsen's thread included tweets from Jeffries in which he claimed congressional elections had been "stolen by rogue Republican operatives," alleged that the GOP cheated in 2016 by colluding with Russia, and said that a "cloud of illegitimacy" hung over the Trump White House.

It is amazing that Trump was impeached twice, and has had investigations by untold numbers of lawyers and government prosecutors trying to get him on something, since 2016, yet not a single thing is sticking.

Trump was banned from Twitter but has been reinstated by the new owner, Elon Musk.
Many people did very well when Trump was President, certainly far better than they're doing now, under Biden.

Trump may not run or win in 2024 but as of right now, he has the right to run for President again, for the third time.

I'm still waiting for Biden's "global corporation tax" being approved and effectively applied hahaha. Talking is cheap. Doing what is announced, that's another matter.

If the Democrats do manage to hurt Trump enough to stop him from running in 2024, they may end up wishing they had not, if DeSantis or another GOP candidate beats Biden, lol.

The Democrats' main concern should be replacing Biden with a younger candidate, and that would not include Harris, who is even worse than Biden.

Many people did better under Trump? No way, I love paying $5 for bread and double for meat. Trump allowed me to purchase more food and just end up eating more. Biden for the win!
