2020 US Presidential Election

Ted Cruz said "nothing to see here". He was just going on a Cruz. His wife said their house was freezing.

They have said some wacked up shit and at this rate, if they continue down this dark path I would not be surprised if the Republican Party becomes defunct. They are digging into their own graves.
I've been watching this "dynamic" since around 1994 when Newt Gingrich and the Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. They accomplished this by creating what they called "The Contract with America". Being a center right moderate at the time, I actually thought it was a pretty decent set of governing principles.

Unfortunately, this was about the same time that Newt and his cohorts started in with so much of their "whacked up shit", and completely destroyed their credibility. They went from a philosophy of governing based on a set of principles to becoming political hacks interested in hardly anything more power and the politics of personal destruction.

There were many players involved in this turning onto a dark path, including politicians and right wing news media. What it featured was lies, upon lies, upon lies, conspiracy theories, and extremely personal vilification of their political opponents, and any "libtard" who might vote for them. In the coming decades, it all essentially set the stage for Donald Trump and his acolytes to take this dynamic to a whole new cult-like level.

Seemingly intelligent people began to believe literally any fantastical thing uttered by one of the most accomplished con men of our times. I still shake my head in amazement at how so many people are willing to sacrifice democratic principles of governance just to keep their own personal political idols in power. -- I've been watching this party (one I leaned toward) dig their own graves for almost 30 years now. My hope is to see this party become defunct in my lifetime.

Truly absurd thinking. And you had to use another uncommon word "acolytes" to reinforce your superiority ego once again. No wonder people leave this thread and possibly this forum.

"Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is a mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason."

What medical journal or psychiatric publication was that lovely quote taken from?

Also, why are we even still on Trump? We have a new President that's doing far better then he was.

I'm shocked about these results, I got "Social Democracy". Isn't that more left of centre than right of centre?

I would say I'm more right of centre than left of centre.
Well here's the thing about the political compass, it strips the political bickering garbage out of the equation and focuses solely on the issues, so it's possible you are more liberal than you realize because of some of the politicians on both sides. For instance, there are a lot of conservatives out there who think they're more liberal than they are just because they hate Trump.

I'm wondering if some of the more progressive questions in that quiz have shifted my results more to the left of centre.

I've notice that with you and @FGG that your overall political compass was more in the middle but I thought both of you were more to the left than centre.

That's what made the quiz hard. If modern Republicans actually stood, non-hypocritically and critically, for the things they claim to stand for, some of these questions have different answers.

Even for example, nationalism. I love my country and am so glad I live here. Trump was the first time the "America first" thing really opened my eyes. But if America first was more moderate, I wouldn't disagree with it.

You consider FGG and my scores moderate? I was at like 85% market for instance. It said I was a socialist.

Biden saying this made no sense:

The president said he hoped 600 million COVID vaccines would be available to Americans by the end of July—enough to cover almost the entire population with two doses. He also said his administration did not have COVID vaccines when it took over from Trump's, drawing criticism from former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

My bad, I thought it just said Libertarian. That makes so much sense now.

After doing that quiz I feel like I'm in an identity crisis lol. I really thought I was more centre right than centre left but in the quiz I got it completely the other way round.

Honestly, it's my deeply held suspicion that a large segment of the population is further left then they think.

For instance, I was talking to a "moderate" relative a while back and he said he couldn't get behind AOC because she was too far left. I said "can I ask you a few questions?" And he said "yeah" so I asked him the following
1. Are you in favor of healthcare for all like the Canadians have?
2. Should college be free?
3. Should we have universal childcare?
4. Should we invest in our infrastructure with a focus on climate?
5. Are you in favor of universal paid family and medical leave?
6. Should we withdraw from the Middle East?

He said yes to all of the above, and then I told him that was the far left platform and he goes "but, that's not extreme" and I go "exactly".

If you'd like to double check though, here's another political compass you can use as kind of a second opinion:

I guess that means I'm left of centre then lol.
