2024 US Presidential Election

@Luman and @just1morething:

Apparently, Trump ordered the US military to start drafting plans to take over the Panama canal forcibly. On top of that, he reiterated his desire to annex both Canada and Greenland.

I remember one or both of you stating that you voted for Trump because he is an anti-war President. However, his current statements and actions seem to contradict this.

What's your take on this? And how do you feel about Trump's foreign policy so far?

In a worst-case scenario, would you support Trump putting boots on the ground in Canada or Greenland?
The Panama Canal had been taken over by billionaires associated with Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China. This is unacceptable.

He had little to no war during his first term; now he has to straighten out the situations that developed during Biden's term. His foreign policies are more focused on business than recent previous presidents.

In a worst-case scenario, such as Canada or Greenland being attacked or occupied by an enemy country, I would support defending them with our military. I don't know or foresee what other "worst-case scenarios" would justify American military actions in these countries, but there probably are some, so I would have to say it depends on why.

He likes to rile people with statements and has always been this way. It makes for interesting responses, such as many on this thread, and, of course, everywhere else there is media coverage. As his words are often deliberately twisted and/or taken out of context by those who oppose him, he probably figures that he might as well give them something that sounds shocking once in a while, just for the hell of it.
Ten percent of the American stock market has been wiped out just the past month.

The stock market goes up and down. The fundamentals of the economy are strong. Trump is making major changes and investors are spooked. It will probably take some time before the markets return to positive territory.

Thank you for your response; however, I was specifically referring to the US putting boots on the ground to annex Canada or Greenland.

A scenario that suddenly doesn't seem so far-fetched anymore, given Trump's increasingly imperialistic rhetoric.

Trump breaking international law and seizing control of an allied country that was not under attack or taken over by a common enemy, or was about to be, is highly unlikely to happen.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Making annexation remarks during a meeting with NATO's Secretary-General certainly doesn't bode well.

It might've started as a weird form of trolling or a negotiation tactic, but he seems really hung up on the idea of expanding America's territory.

Yes, it was four years ago. The recent market panic is mostly about Trump's policies, and investors are nervous and wary. This may last for a while, but the fundamental economy is fine, and the markets will recover better than ever.

The Biden administration was a disaster. We have no idea who created many of his policies, but it certainly wasn't him. I do not like the man personally, but he was not a "progressive" or nearly as bad during his career in politics as when he became president and was suffering from mental decline. The issue of whether he signed bills or somebody else did it with an autopen of his signature must be investigated. He deserves the benefit of the doubt until more information is found. Democrats are destroying their party. James Carville recognizes this and is talking about it.

The United States could do so much for Greenland that I think they'd be foolish not to at least listen to what Trump has in mind. The U.S. owns several territories, and they're not seeking to leave.
