Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

I was on 4-7mg of Valium everyday for about two months before my doctor abruptly made me stop taking them to avoid addiction. The taper was very fast in my opinion,is this dangerous?I haven't taken any for over a year now.

Yes it's too fast. But 4-7 mgs is not alot by any standard. Anyway no sense in worrying about the past ...!

I've been taking Clonazepam off and on since my T back in 2013 and its the only thing that actually quites down my T...I know Benzo's are frown upon but hey its a welcome relief having some quite days.....Last few days I was suffering with this loud EEEEEEEEEEEE so I took .5mg last nite and bang the T is reduced by 50% ...again its a welcome relief...just need to be careful ...Just thought I'd post this for those who are at the end of their rope and what to give something a try.
Stay Strong

Diazepam or Valium does absolutely nothing to me. At this point it does not even put me to sleep haha :)

I had some pretty traumatic things happen before the onset of t and I had been to a psychiatrist who prescribed me klonopin. I was having a very hard night tonight and took one, it's been about two hours now and I would say the noise has gone down at least 50 percent.

How is it today? Was there any sort of rebound effect? Did it make you sleepy?

Just about every Doc I have seen has either written me a prescription for Clonazepam or offered to write me one. As a result over the last 2 years I have a lot of it. It works but the internet is full of horror stories about how bad it is, don't take it, terrible withdrawal, etc..

What's the real story. I have used it sparingly and it helps. I have been giver .5mg twice a day but I am cutting them in half and they are still pretty effective.

Who here has taken Clonazepam, small dose for any length of time with no bad things happening? Anybody?

I believe it's prescribed long term for epilepsy. I have asked every doctor about this and all I have learned is how slippery they can be when you try to pin them down to a solid answer.

My ENT Doctor prescribed clonazepam when my tinnitus reached severe levels and was terribly distressing for me. I was advised to only take it when the tinnitus is very severe. If taken often the body quickly habituates and the drug loses it's effect. That is when addiction can set in as more of the drug is needed to get relief. I was also told it can have unpleasant side effects and it doesn't help everyone. Fortunately, I only take it occassionally.

Take it occasionally if required. It's a great drug as you don't need to build it up in the system for it to work. I use clozeapram and Xanax. I prefer Xanax due to its less half life.

Mate, the internet is full of internet keyboard warriors. People go on the net to complain, not compliment. Trust your doctor not internet forums. Be responsible, if you're going to start popping benzodiazepines like candy, you've only got yourself to blame :)

I've only been offered Buspar for my anxiety, has anyone taken that?

only really worried about the side effects.

currently supplementing with L-Theanine in social situations.

I've got .5 mg and have never taken more than 2 in a day and never for longer than a week or maybe 2 at the most. I swore off ever taking them again out of concern for all the potential problems but they are quite effective and this recent spike my doc gave them to me again. I found cutting a .5 in half gives me a good day and a decent night. I have been doing a half every other day. I don't want to spoil the good effect or build tolerance by over doing it. I've been assured that at that rate it's as safe as it can be. I feel like I'm on the road to habituation again but this time is much longer than the last.

You mentioned you have used them as well, would you mind telling me how much and how often and if you've had any adverse effects?

I remember the first time I used them at two .5mg a day, stopping gave me a few days of anxiety and depression and that's why I am so cautious not. The last thing we need is additional anxiety and depression.

I have both Xanax and Klonopin and use .5mg maybe once or twice a week :) The only time I had a bad side effect is when I tried 1.5mg of Klonopin "testing" the power of the medication, and fell over in the kitchen it hit me so hard ahaha :)

I don't get much relief from tinnitus from either of these drugs like others do, but it does help calm me :). I prefer the Xanax overall as I can take it, feel a bit better and then its gone from my system within the day. Klonopin sits in your body for over day so I hardly use it anymore. I've never felt a need or addition to any of these drugs, sometimes you get a slight "low" feeling the next day after having a Xanax is all. Again, your results may vary but work with your doctor.

@Pleasure_Paulie @grate_biff

I'm not really sure if it works or not. I find it works best in conjunction with caffeine when I want to focus.

I'm not entirely sure of the anxiolytic effects but I will be trying out a combination of L-theanine and .5mg of ativan to see if there is any potentiation

Oh and I am also incredibly wary of messing with any of my neurotransmitters especially while I'm on antipsychotics.

Does anyone know if ativan and L-theanine is a good idea to take with an atypical antipsychotic like risperidone?

I take 3/4 of .5 Klonopin per day broken into 3 doses.
Question: is that the best way to take it or should I take slightly larger doses 2x per day for a better effect?

Also, I was mad that I had to start taking this as I'm sure my T was caused by the sensitivity created by the antidepressant reaction but mainly because I took Diazepam for 2 weeks and stopped. This article makes me feel a little better about taking it even if it's bull crap:

Klonopin has a long half life of over 30 hours, there is no point in splitting the dose, take the .5 once a day.
Despite it's long half-life, peak plasma concentration occurs 1-4 hours after ingestion (some pharmacokinetic documents say 1-2 hours). This is why it is not at all unusual for Clonazepam prescriptions to specify that the drug be taken 2, 3 or 4 times per day.

I'm splitting a .5mg Klonopin and find I get a good benefit, just enough to take the edge off without getting too sleepy. I like having the ability to step up if that day ever arrives when a half doesn't do it and at that point I need to start thinking about getting off before it becomes a problem.

I'm so bummed. After being told by two different doctors that Klonopin might help, I took one .5 mg pill and had a pretty dismal experience. It made me sleepy and fuzzy for the rest of the day, but didn't lower the tinnitus at all. The next day I was dragging and the tinnitus was higher than the day before. On top of that I felt more depressed and had more than the usual number of suicidal thoughts. Is that a normal side effect of Klonopin wearing off? I was really hoping this was a drug that could be used as needed, but it seems like you have to keep on taking it or suffer the consequences of a spike and worse anxiety when the first pill wears off.

Yeah some say there is a rebound effect that makes your tinnitus louder when you stop taking Klonopin. I forgot to bring my Klonopin with me today. Some people have good luck with Klonopin plus Gabapentin.

Klonopin doesn't really quiet tinnitus, it should calm the anxiety caused by tinnitus and that is what makes you feel better. You also discovered the problem with taking it, the "hangover" or "crash" when it wears off is terrible and for me can last for a couple days. I have tons of it and have only taken it in extreme emergencies when I am at the point I can't take it.

Thanks for the replies @just1morething and @Ambassador. I'm in a very dark place right now. Sometimes the T is quieter and I feel like things will be okay, then it comes right back as loud and reactive as ever -- sizzling/hissing that's constant, and then there are added bells, tones and rings that chime in.

The Klonopin did work for the anxiety to some extent because after I took the .5 I could hear the T but my feeling was "Oh well, whatever. T." Unfortunately, I felt that way about everything going on that day and couldn't focus or really process much. It seems to be more of a drug you commit to rather than a short term solution.

Is coming off Xanax as bad as Klonopin?

@BuzzyBee, You could try this. It helped me a lot today. Your noise could be related to allergies and/or ETD.

Has anyone tried St John's Wort? Please let me know if it helps. I have severe tinnitus that never leaves me.
