DIY Low-Level Laser Therapy for Tinnitus on a Budget — LLLT Under 100,-

You won't see the beam staring at the lamp but if you shine it close to a surface in a totally dark room you will see a faint red beam and that was using the regular batteries not the 3.7v
Yeah I mentioned that as well, but I wasn't sure what pictures you were referring to, as the pictures I quoted are of the camera detecting some of the IR showing it up as blue/purple.

@SilverSpiral
Thank you for going to the trouble of explaining things. Like you, I'm desperate for a little improvement in any way, shape or form. Today is a bad T day for me, I'm listening to a relaxation CD right now. How are you finding the IR light? Any change? BTW when I mentioned my hyperacusis, yes I meant it reacts mostly to high pitched sounds. Thanks for your input.

I started 1 month after trauma and I think it did help for the first months.

Without doing anything except not sleeping and hating my own stupidity, my tinnitus faded dramatically in the first few months. Correlation / causation is rough here.

It still sucks.

You quoted me, but I don't know what the quote refers to, and when I click the arrow, it goes to a quote I said, but it doesnt say what you quoted... whats happening?

EDIT: I searched the thread for what you quoted, and Bobby B said it, but it shows you quoting me... how does that happen?

In pratice and if you read the web page of that other German therapist offering LLLT on the lumomed device, past the 3 months mark after trauma it's really unrealistic to expect major improvements

@Reinier you started LT 12 months after trauma that's well past the acute phase
I started 1 month after trauma and I think it did help for the first months.

But since those new lamps are so cheap and it's fairly safe without side effects, it's always worth a try now.
And if you are again subjected to a new trauma then you can start ASAP and regenerate your hair cells like in then study maybe ..
@Tom Cnyc That is the quote you were quoting.

Poor editing. Sorry

Has anyone noticed any changes from using the flashlight? I wanted to ask also what is the difference between a 3W and 5W light...they have both on Amazon? Thanks

Hi, just wanting to ask a few questions regarding flashlight IR on Amazon...the Ilauke 850nm 5W
So this isn't the torch I ordered, I'm looking at this one...
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/aw/d/B01M0...=Torche+IR&dpPl=1&dpID=41z1OC91k-L&ref=plSrch
Or this one...
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/aw/d/B016Z...=Torche+IR&dpPl=1&dpID=41w8Yf9MICL&ref=plSrch
@Bobby B @SilverSpiral @WildMan I'd appreciate any advice, I'm not sure if these are anything like the Ilauke one, or if it's worth trying this at all. I am a total novice so don't want to make things worse. I'm sitting here with ear muffs on, I'm desperate to find something that might improve things. Thank you

guys - small update on the Ilauke850 with the high power batteries.

I appears that the lamp I have has a LED protection circuit build in to cut off too high voltage... because there is no beam at all.

The beam comes up and quite bright but a fraction of second later it is cut off each time I try. Normal 1.5 v batteries work fine.

I measured my freshly charged 14500 battery at 3.9-4.0v

Will try with a power supply that outputs 3v

How will you use a power supply on the light?

hook up the +- terminal to the + poles and - body of the lamp

the obvious difference is 5w is more powerful than 3 w
one person has reported some effect
but its too early to say, it takes months or even years

Ok thanks @Bobby B
If using a standard AA battery then how long would you spend on each ear and how many times a week? Do the eyes need protecting? Better to move torch around or not? Thanks

It's wide enough to not need to move
Use it like the pic I posted
15min each ear twice a week

Is this practical to wear that for eye protection ?

@Foncky
Yes this is exactly what I use myself
One of those cheap eye mask works perfect

Do you think eye protection is necessary? The beam is narrow, and if held against the ear, it's hard to imagine it affecting the eyes? Wildman said he does his when he checks his email so i'm assuming he's not using eye protection?

Well you did stare into the lamp for a few seconds without issue so you already know better than all of us - but who knows for sure , everyone is different

Yes once you have the lamp pressed right into the ear I don't see why you would need protection

LED are much safer than lasers in this regard

If you mean these photos

The beam is blue because the IR is being detected by the camera. It does not look like that to the eye I am pretty sure... This is how mine looks on camera blue/purple, but invisible to naked eye.
To my eye, I can't see the light emitted aside from the LEDs lighting up a deeper red color that Infared stuff usually has.

As for the pictures, I think I did mention or if I didn't, those were edited in Photoshop to make the light as visible as possible too.

Also: I used the light again today for 15 minutes (R.ear only. As that is my bothersome one) and my right ear is reacting all kinds of funky. Split second spikes or small 1-2 second "eeee". I can definitely feel it.
Still haven't ordered the proper light and battery.

So using a 1.2v rechargeable.

@MrBonk Do you use eye protection? @Bobby B looking directly at the beam is different from sticking the lens against your ear. It is NOT SAFE to look directly at IR. I read forum posts (on a security camera forum) about people who used IR cameras to record their sleeping habits, and they woke up with blindness (the ir damaged their eyes even through their eyelids). As a result. Their vision restored, but they have impaired nightvision compared to before now. Lots of hunting forums talked about how they treat IR lights like loaded weapons, saying IR eye damage is cumulative and permanent.

@MrBonk can you post pics of how you use it? you and wildman have both reported spikes, but i dont notice anything, besides slight heat on surface of skin. im worried mine isnt working, i have narrow ear canals, and if i push it against my ear it closes the flesh around my ear canal.

So I finally ordered the 5W IR lamp. Will get it tomorrow.

I'm going to start with 5min/ear twice a week, and add 2 min/ear every week.

I'm waiting for my IR torch arriving, should get it tomorrow. Like @SilverSpiral I'm wondering if I should protect my eyes when using the torch. Also how long do you all use it for and how often? The spikes that some people have mentioned, is that a positive sign?

I got the lamp. It has only 3 leds, while yours seem to have 4. I don't know if it makes a difference. I must have the 3W version, but anyway, I'll use regular 1.5v batteries.

Should I focus the beam or use the larger position ?

Hi @Foncky
I just received my lamp, it has 3 LEDs like yours. Mine is the 3W version. I haven't started to use it yet, like you I'm not sure whether to use beam narrow or wide. I have very narrow ear canals so not sure where best to hold the lamp. My whole head is squealing today with the tinnitus...I really hope this LLLT helps. Good luck
