Cause of Tinnitus
Sound Trauma
You guys need to try a supplement called "GABA CALM" I took it last night before bed and noticed a significant reduction in my T today.

Gabba Calm is ment to slow down or " calm" over active Gabba reseptors in your brain.

My T started in my left ear from sound trauma at work. At first it was a continuous high pitched 7-8 khz, like I was at the dentist getting my brain drilled. But in the last month it's dropped down to a more quiet 4-5 khz, like someone is running a shop vac in the next room.

Up to this point I've also been taking Naproxen(Aleve) regularly for inflammation, Ring Relief dissolving tablets, Ginko Baloba, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Fish oil Omega 3 in the morning, and Charlotte's Web CBD hemp oil and 5 mg of melatonin at bedtime with some chamomile tea.

All of these supplements combined promote a healthy calm mind and have helped to alleviate my Tinnitus.

But today after the GABA CALM all I hear is an occasional quiet tingle gingle like Santa elves are ringing a little bell beside my head every once in a while, and in quieter settings, maybe someone is vacuuming down the street lol. This is definately the most noticeable improvement so far.

Now I hope my insomnia will start to get better. I hope they legalize Medical Cannabis in SC soon, because I've read great things about in for Tinnitus.

I pray for continuing relief and hope this helps you all. Please consult me any way you can, I appreciate the support. Peace and love! :)

Hey man just wondering, what have you heard in regards to cannabis and tinnitus? I haven't smoked any since my tinnitus started back in February as I was scared I'd have an anxiety attack. I read some negative things but none of it anecdotal. Won't lie, I do miss it!

How long have you had T for? I'll look into this GABA Calm...

In my case, cannabis and tinnitus is a horrible combo.

Where can I get this GABA CALM?

Also, if this keeps working for a few weeks, then it means something, to me tinnitus is too random to take any cues from one day of relief.

As far a Cannabis there are 2 kinds. One strain is high in THC, this can be counter productive some cases of T. The other strain which I'm referring to is high in CBD and low in THC. This is the one they use to control seizures. In essence Tinnitus is a "seizure" in the auditory part of the brain. So in theory, CBD would have a similar affect in calming it down. Right now only Hemp oil is legal in all 50 states which is what I use. It's effective, but I'd like to try the Medical Marijuana due to its much higher potency in CBD... Charlotte's Web is the best brand of hemp oil on the market. It's based out of Colorado.

Very insightful. I'm in Canada and next year all forms of Cannabis will be legalized, though it's readily accessible at most dispensaries. The dispensary I used to attend had very high CBD strains. I'll look into it. Thank you!

Also, if any of you are on hair loss meds, like Rogaine. Stop immediately!

It's quite possible that it exacerbated my Tinnitus. It's listed as a side effect because it messes with the GABA receptors in the brain.

I've read that medication enduced T can take up to 6 months to go away. So I'm staying hopeful that this may also be a possibility, since I've only had it for just over a month now.

Thanks for signing up at TT to share your success with GABA Calm Mind supplement.

You like me have sound induced (acoustic trama) T and for about the same length of time since onset (30 days vs 40 days).
  1. Is yours 24/7?
  2. How intrusive is it on a scale of 1-10? (1-hear it only if listening for it in a quiet space vs. 10-thoughts of suicide)
  3. Does the Naproxen(Aleve) increase your T? (Naproxen like ibuprofen and asprin are all NSAIDs that are octotoxic and supposedly aggravate T in regular dosages and increase T in large dosages.)

ALL - Here are the ingredients for GABA Calm Mind.
Also, a smaller 30 dose trail size (vs 180) is available at the Vitamine Shoppe for US$6.99 ( vs $20+).

A local health food store carries this GABA Calm, so I started taking them last Friday. I took my first one Friday evening and noticed no difference. I took one Sat. morning, Sun. morning and this morning. My T had dropped down each day from my normal 7-8 to a 5-6. It's not a big reduction, but just enough to be noticeable. It very likely could just be coincidence, but I'm going to keep taking them for a few weeks to see.

Hi Jim,

The first 2 weeks were the worst, it was closer to a 8-9 scale. But currently it's dropped to a 1-2 scale. It is 24/7 although I too only hear it when I'm in a quiet environment or I have earplugs in at work. It can sometimes climb to a 3-4 scale in the evening, but only if I've aggravated it with alot of loud noises that day. But it settles back down after I take my supplements and I do the finger drumming excersise which also seems to help lower the volume of the T.

Its only been 4 days and I would say the Gaba Calm is definitely helping. It's lowering the T and alleviating the anxiety that comes along with it.

As far as the Naproxen, it helped in my case, and it was better than taking steroids which have terrible side effects. I'm not taking it regularly anymore, it was initially just to relieve inner ear inflammation. Although I keep it handy just incase. But I think the fish oil is handling any inflammation issues now.

I'm staying positive in hopes for continued relief and the possibility of curing it completely. I don't listen to nay Sayers. I believe we have the ability within ourselves to overcome most ailments. Mind over matter.

Thanks for sharing the info on your GABA supplier.

That's great news man! Mine has also significantly lowered in the past 4 days. I started with 1 dose a day, but this week I'm going to try taking 3 × 750 mlg tablets a day to see what happens. 2 before bed, and 1 in the morning. The bottle I get has a 180 count so that should last a month respectively. I hope to hear of your continued relief.

Hi All - There are two very similar Source Naturals "GABA Calm" that are easily confused (at least I was confused):
A) "GABA Calm Mind" and
B) "GABA Calm" (which I think is what @Nate Croteau is using)

A. GABA CALM Mind (very low GABA and not what I believe the author is using):

B. GABA CALM (very high 750 mg GABA which is what I believe the author is using):

FWIW:
750 mg GABA only (option B) is available from a variety of manufacturers with a number of less expensive generic/store-brand options available.

Yes, thanks for clarifying that for everyone Jim. Option "B" GABA Calm 750 mg is the one that I am currently using. I purchased it on Amazon,

Hi! My T is mild in nature but I have really bad anxiety and I could tell I was slipping into depression. Its day 2 of taking this. I only take one capsule. It has lessened my anxiety but idk if its placebo..we'll see.

I take it first thing in the morning and I could feel my heart not racing so fast. My T is maybe a 3/10. With this, since my mind is more calm T feels like a 1. I just want the anxiety and racey thoughts gone. This is helping so far and I don't feel so compulsive.

I haven't tried the GABA Calm Mind yet, but this thread motivated me to finally try the L-Theanine I bought several months ago. I read an account from one person who said it spiked his T so I was afraid to try it, but since I was already in the middle of a post-lunch spike I gave it a go. Maybe it was coincidence, but the loud faucet in my head changed to soft (and more pleasant) chimes. On top of that, I spent the next three hours in a relatively noisy environment and the tinnitus did not get worse. For the record, I am one of those people who responds well to caffeine, but I can only have it early in the morning or I'll have trouble sleeping. I took the L-Theanine at about 2:30 and felt neither over-tired nor oddly-wired.

Every case of T is unique, as well as every persons brain chemistry. Not everyone will have the same results towards certain supplements. The important thing is to try it all, and find what works for you. It's been exactly one week now for me taking various supplements including L-Theanine as well as GABA calm. So far the results have all been positive. My T had significantly reduced in volume, almost inaudible unless in wearing earplugs it in a completely silent environment. I'm even able to sleep through the night now with minimal ambient noise. This for me is the biggest improvement, considering a couple weeks ago I had full blown insomnia, not able to sleep for 48-72 hours at a time. So don't be afraid to try something new, and give it time. You may notice a change within 24 hours or it may take a few days for your body to fully absorb and saturate the nutrients. Stay strong and stay positive. Best of luck.

Almost a week of taking these (750 mg) 2x a day. It's not a magic pill, where you pop one and the T is instantly gone or reduced. It's effects feel similar to melatonin to me. I guess what I'm trying to say is it doesn't seem like it's affecting T when I feel the effects of it, BUT I've had the best T week I've had in almost a year. Each day my T has been slightly reduced from the previous day....and my T doesn't function like that at all. It seems like it's starting to add up. It could be totally unrelated, but will still keep taking these to find out.
