Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown/loud music
I went to an outdoor festival with my college for 3 days. I wore earplugs, and I was standing far away from the speakers. The music was loud, and my earplugs didn't even work properly. I don't understand why I didn't get a spike as I expected. I can listen to music at any volume, and it doesn't happen. I thought my T was caused by loud music, but then again, I think it could be caused by something else since it doesn't spike or anything when I listen to music. My doctor says it is caused by loud music, and he didn't even give me other suggestions. I have symptoms of both stress and depression so my question is: Can stress and depression cause tinnitus or vice versa? What do you think?

I am convinced that it's a lot easier getting tinnitus due to stress rather than noise - or maybe a combination but from noise alone you need a lot more than a few concerts

I regularly went clubbing for decades and shooting firearms and listening to portable music since the cassette Walkman era , loud music in cars , riding noisy big bikes and not until recently have I gotten T - and that was after a super loud 1 hours shooting event.

But I also don't have depression or much stress

Stress and depression and anxiety can cause tinnitus and also tinnitus can cause stress, anxiety and depression...lots of love glynis

In principle all tinnitus is caused by damage to the same system, whether it was caused by acoustics or for example toxic drugs. An important thing to note here is that this damage will compound, even if the initial causes were different. furthermore, stress reduces the function of the glia in the brain, the glia are the caretakers of your neurons. It has been clinically shown that prolonged stress will lower the your systems resilience to damage.
There is a connection between depression, stress, anxiety, bipolarism, and tinnitus, as all of them have something to do with the brain obviously, but more accurately the glutamate metabolism.
