I Invented a Sound That Knocked Out My Tinnitus

On severe days, I use this to mask since while the tinnitus pokes through everything... it blends right in with this assault on the ears. :)

If someone has mild tinnitus and is OCD about it... there are other sound files and maskers to try.

Don't crickets mask your tinnitus?
Crickets? Lol. Only if the crickets were jolly green giant sized, maybe.
20 years ago when mine was mild a fan would do it. Not now...

Things that won't mask my tinnitus... flying at Mach .85, driving at 70mph with full air conditioner, the shower, a 85 dB sound masker 1 ft from my ear, a nuclear explosion... on second thought... that would probably stop everything... that's the only thing I haven't tried.
:)

Tinnitus can get that bad? This is sick. Amazing you are still alive. Good luck mate.

Sleeping on your back and your tinnitus is fine the next morning? How did you get tinnitus in the first place?
It started when I was 12 years old, but around that time I got a MP3 player. My second tone I got after a festival, even wearing plugs deep in my ears. After this I stopped going out and avoided loud places. Third, fourth and fifth tone just came out of nowhere. So I'm guessing 50% noise induced and 50% somatic.

I just started listening to this... it's horrible.. how can you go to sleep to this!? And if you do go to sleep... imagine the nightmares it might generate... Holy macamoly.

If this has actually helped people with tinnitus... well... I'm happy for them. I'm gonna pass though.
LOL yea it is a little harsh at first, but it changes in your perception and becomes soothing after a few days, read this, it is a typical response for new users of Tinnitus Mix.

I'm guessing a Bose would also work?? I have reactive tinnitus that goes up with sound and tinnitus that started with neck/jaw issues. Will your CD be a problem with this?
Yes the Bose noise canceling headphones work but are very expensive. With reactive tinnitus you might think about bone conducting headphones, or keep the headphones a few inches away from the ears on VERY low volume.

@Chris81

After a few hours of listening, it becomes acceptable. It doesn't bother me at all. Initially, I was in bed listening, thinking what a hell of a cacophony it was. Now, a week on, it's just a series of noises. My brain appears to have accepted it.

I started at a very low volume, slowly increasing to a level that would be somewhere near or slightly below that which I would normally listen to music at. Not too loud, but enough to reproduce all frequencies adequately.

Hm, interesting. So how does it affect your tinnitus? I presume you have tinnitus since you are listening to it.

I'm very curious. I see you've only listened to it for a week so maybe no difference so far. Please let me know further down the road how it goes.

It's early stages at the moment. I find it it certainly reducing my tinnitus to a weak and broken hiss from a constant hiss at a much higher level. I will persist with it and report back. I've had too many false dawns in the past, so time will tell.

That's a good sign, keep going and don't skip a night or tinnitus will try to reform.

Having had tinnitus that long could take 4-6 weeks of using Tinnitus Mix for it to work.

I think you are making a good choice. It made mine worse. I had the same thoughts you do. It's a disgusting sound, how can it be good for you? But I did it anyway because I was desperate at the time.

It's a standard 3.5mm male plug. If your phone has no 3.5mm input like on newer iPhones (Tim Cook you s&ck) you need an adapter. I bought a MP3/WAV player for $20, and 10 hour battery life. I did not see any results after a month, but I do still use it to cope (mask) sometimes... the Mix is so weird, I get confused which tone is "my" tone sometimes... lol.

I keep listening to it night after night at a super low volume. So far it hasn't helped but it hasn't hurt either. I also like the fact that sometimes I can't tell the difference between the beautiful sounds of Tinnitus Mix and my tinnitus. The only problem is, I accidentally signed my name Genesis P Orridge the other day.

I have had some people that take longer than others.

Well actually it is just the opposite as that!!! Tinnitus Mix helps you sleep and prevents nightmares...

Thanks for the track, I'll give it a shot starting tonight.. Use Audio Technica MSR7 with a Dragonfly Amplifier...

Saw the first page of this thread and I gotta say that one guy is quite the shady dude... OP offered what he considers a beneficial experimental audio file and the guy went full detective on him for the world to see... So cringe... Not very respectful for someone extending an arm for those suffering...

Sorry about the lack of update. Been listening to this somewhat regularly until the headphones broke and now only work in one ear. My tinnitus seems to be slowly dissipating by itself. Whether or not this was down to the Tinnitus Mix is a mystery to me but nonetheless thank you David Case.

Interesting, I never gave a lot of credit to Tinnitus Mix but I actually had a reduction of noise distortion sleeping in my kitchen which has weird noises because of refrigerator and clocks and water stuff...

I wonder now if it could work... I might add it to my roadmap for healing. One of the stuff I may try.

R. David Case, is Tinnitus Mix suitable for tinnitus around 1800Hz-2400Hz? Because it seems to be suitable for higher frequency tinnitus.

@Zud what is your tinnitus like?

Tinnitus Mix works no matter what the tone of the tinnitus is, you should try it.

Yea, every group I join to try to help people they go nuts on me and try to stop me from helping the members, it's amazing!! You would think they would want help stopping their tinnitus. I think there are a lot of people in these groups that are only here to disrupt for entertainment.

Hi, I am an engineer that was tortured for 3 years with severe tinnitus, fed up I made a device that made a sound similar to my tinnitus and play it on headphones at night and it stopped my tinnitus.

I began to give this sound away to help others.

TinnitusMix.com

Tinnitus Mix is a free experimental mix of sounds (7 kinds of interference, random pulses and sounds). It's not a pleasant sound to listen to at first, but tends to become more acceptable after a few days of use.

Tinnitus Mix may be more helpful for those whose tinnitus is noise-induced, or idiopathic.

Tinnitus Mix is not recommended for anyone suffering from hyperacusis.

Suggested Use
Tinnitus Mix is recommended to be listened while sleeping for 3-21 full nights. The longer you have had tinnitus, the longer you may need to listen to Tinnitus Mix to see any improvement. Keep the volume of Tinnitus Mix at a safe level.

Tinnitus Mix is experimental. It is not based on scientific research. Your mileage may vary. Tinnitus Mix is not intended as a substitute for medical advice. For medical care, consult a medical professional.

Recommended Headphones
For listening to Tinnitus Mix, either the Koss KTX-PRO1 or the Koss KSC75 are recommended which have the optimal high frequency response and coil size. The difference is that the Koss KSC75 doesn't have a headband. The cost for one of these headphones is about $20-25 and they are available on various stores including Amazon and Walmart.

Uncompressed WAV (800 MB). Due to the large size, it might take a while to finish downloading. You can play it on any audio player.

To date I have reduced or eliminated tinnitus in over 400 people. I wish to help others and have joined several tinnitus groups and have helped many of them. Here is what the moderator of one group said.

I will not use headphones.

Have you heard from anyone who has just played your file via speakers?
