I've Given Up on Life

Just a quick update. I'm still waiting on an ophthalmologist appointment. I've cross tapered to valium, and a week ago today I dropped my dose from 15mg daily to 13.75mg daily.

My left eyelid has begun to twitch, which is a new symptom. For months it was my right eyelid only.

My left eye feels "dark" and has a feeling of pain and pressure behind it. This is extremely difficult to explain.

Hyperacusis and tinnitus seem to be worsening in sync with the benzo changes.

I had my first headache in over 2 months the other day. I'm starting to become worried my severe headaches are returning.

I want to get my TMJ looked at and possibly get a splint that somehow prevents me from clenching my jaw while I sleep. I plan on growing money from a tree to pay for this.

I'm severely depressed. I fear for my future, and every day I think about suicide.

Thanks for listening.

Hey Matt,
Update. I've had my first two days off Lorazepam and Meclizine. Lorazepam can be addicting to beware. I was taking 1/2 pill Lorazepam to sleep. 1 pill Meclizine to get thru the day. Today is my 3rd good day in a row. I've been really bad for a month straight now. What's helping me is these breathing techniques. I can't believe it's helping. Never a fan of meds but the last few weeks I was willing to try anything for help. Desperate, maybe as you are for relief. I've had my first day of working out in a month. Again I can't believe it. So I hope this helps you. Dr. Weil says not to overdue it early on. He sells a set of CD's I listened to that my wife had around. I can get you the name of them if you want maybe you can find used on ebay cheap. The links below describe both techniques 4/7/8 and trying to set your default breath. I'm not affiliated with any of these guys or a sales person. Just a sufferer of menieres.

Dr. Weil. Exercise to do a couple times per day.

Weil with Dr. Jim Nicolai. Setting Default breath.

How exactly you improved by doing those breathing exercises?
Anxiety? Hyperacousis?
For how long you've been doing them?

Matt & Valeri,
Update: My GP's had me on Lorazepam where I was having varied results with and felt I needed to up my dosage. I was also was on low salt diet. My neurologist for some reason asked if I would try Amitriptyline 25mg each night. It was the first time I was able to sleep thru the night and survive thru the day in months. Beware of using any drugs tho, I was at my wits end and desperate. I hope to get off them as soon as possible once I can stabilize.

Recently I went to an ENT specialist in LA and he said I don't have menieres, even though the doctor in my home town diagnosed me with menieres 2 years ago. The new ENT gave me a diet for "vestibular migraines" and stay on the Amitriptyline since I'm not experiencing side effects. I think the new ENT's choice of drug of choice was Effexor for treating "vestibular migraines with associated vertigo". I'm still taking Amitriptyline for now but going to try weaning myself off, hoping the vestibular diet will help enough. The new ENT also mentioned "visual dependency" which I will discuss further with him my next appointment.

I think there is emotional/depression component intertwined with my vertigo. The breathing links I mentioned certainly didn't do as much as Amitriptyline to be sure. On one of Dr.Weil's CD's there was a guest who's name escapes me. He was discussing mindfulness and dealing with pain. I'm going to investigate this further. I'm not sure what came first the depression or vertigo. Not sleeping was becoming a huge issue and the Amitriptyline is helping me for now.

I'll update again following my appointment in a couple weeks.

Lorazepam (benzos) can cause suicidal ideation and night waking, the withdrawals can be painful and fatal. Buspar is a better alternative. seroquel is also a good sleep med

You should taper off the benzos. if you can go to a detox center, it would be wise. I found benzos after a few weeks worsened my T , H and V and added other crazy symptoms. I'm 30 days off them and I feel better.

Yes, I'm tapering off them. I began in August. It's a very slow and agonizing process. I feel worse as I taper.

@whale What is your symptoms ?

I have Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, Vertigo and TMJD, I get brain zaps and when my T spikes my eye browse twitches.
My hands shake and at times I'm unable to regulate body temperature. like I'm either freezing cold or sweeting hot. The other day skin was pealing off my feat. I'm guessing it from sweating. its been like that for months. I wear a jaw splint 24/7. I've most likely have other symptoms I'm just not thinking of now. I'm in good deal of pain at all times, and I just spent the last 30 days in treatment. This is the bottom I plan to crawl myself up from.

I suppose you've checked your thyroid? The stuff you describe sound like a mix of hyper/hypo thyroid function (a weird case of Hashimoto's perhaps). Just sayin' if it isn't from benzo withdrawal or anything...

well my H and T were there before benzos , I give it another months to clear out the benzo from my system.

I plan on growing money from a tree to pay for this.
I planted a $100.00 bill in nice fresh soil, watered it daily with a touch of Magic Grow and tended to the soil often to keep the weeds out and allow air to get to the roots of my freshly planted hundred bucks. Well 6 months later, I now only have the top half of my hundred dollar bill. What a jip. I suggest you try planting a quarter instead!!

Yes, I experience many symptoms of TTS/TTTS. These symptoms could also be attributed to migraine or TMJD. I have never received a diagnosis other than "tinnitus and hyperacusis."

What triggered your H ?
I don't know. I can't point to any single incident that coincided with its fruition, because it came on slowly. I've been to hundreds of concerts and gigs in my life without hearing protection, so that might have something to do with it.

Did you have migraines before H ?
I started getting pretty bad headaches in the year prior to H. These headaches made me sensitive to noise while I had them. I was never diagnosed with migraine.

Did you have TMJD before H ?
I've never been diagnosed with TMJD.

Well I think the most important is finding which is the cause between TTTS/TMJD/Migraines/...to try to eradicate the problem. Good luck

I'm in south florida. does he specialize in H?

Dr. Silverstein offers a surgery to treat Hyperacusis. There has been a lot of discussion about this surgery in TTalk (do a search and you will find the threads). This video explains the procedure and includes patient testimonials.
