Cause of Tinnitus
Loud music/gigs probably
Hi All

Just wanted to vent about how infuriating motorbikes are. My work office is on the side of a busy dual carriageway in London and some of the bikes that go passed are insanely loud, even sounding loud when im at my desk. If i How do the riders not go deaf??? Also, some cars seem to have crazy loud motors on them, like they have been modded, grrr.

There is the engine noise you hear + the wind noise when you ride. The wind noise alone can be very loud, depending on the speed.

Some riders understand quickly they need ear plugs (most helmets give no/little protection), some don't and loose hearing before they know.

In practice you don't loose hearing that fast - that's why we have these bikers.

I used to ride a Honda X4 - 1400cc with very loud supertrapp exhaust back in the late 1990's ..great low frequency rumble at idle and very noisy at full throttle..after a while it gave me headaches it was so loud, still no T back then.

I am sure it contriubuted to eventually getting T though!

pretty much everything contributed - i just liked it loud..my mistake
loud clubbing for 3 decades
firearms and explosions in the Army
loud music at home and in the car..
lots and lots of loud movies

you get the picture
the bike was a small part but yes..its cumulative but takes time

bike alone would not do it i think..unless you ride for like 30 years

my bike isn't much over 100db at road speeds. if you wear earplugs most people can tolerate that sound for a long time without any hearing loss, unless you're riding for hours a day for years.

people with illegally loud exhausts are assholes, though...

That's why I started to dislike riding my bicycle. Most motorbikes with stock exhausts are fine and some some without but there are the extremely noisy ones. Just today I got passed by about 2 or 3 of the really loud ones. Had to plug my ears as they went by because they were so loud, and even then it seemed loud. And it just seems like they deliberately will accelerate when they see a cyclist, out of sheer evil.
