Cause of Tinnitus
Burgler Alarm
I stupidly went to see a show with the family on Boxing night, Cinderella, it was crazy loud but I used plugs, didn't help, my hearing is worse again in the left ear (always my worse ear) tinnitus much worse, balance worse. I thought it was bad before but this is a new level of hell.

I had hoped it was just bad due to a bad flu but this actually feels like fresh acoustic trauma. Before this I could sit in a quiet room and not hear tinnitus as it only seemed to react too noise but it's constant buzzing fridge noise now.

This all started on 29th May 2016 after exposure to a powerful alarm. 7 months now but why does it still seem like it's only just happened? A lot of the time I feel like I'm still in May 2016!!
Every day I replay the events of the 29th May over and over. I honestly cannot believe it happened. Still cannot understand how the hell it happened and now its worse.

Hi Jason,
I'm only 4 weeks in and have stopped replaying the events of the night I first heard my current T. I'm a musician and my ears were hurting so much that I stopped the band rehearsal. I didn't think anymore about it and as usual the ringing went away but the came back 3 days later, and it had been there ever since.
I'm still not dealing with it as well as I would like but have kinda accepted its presence and have become a little stronger. In saying that just when I think I've got a handle on it, it brings me down for a bit. I still have hope though that it will drop to a tolerable level. Have to have hope! I'm gonna start my usual fitness program today and get back to what was a good diet pre T. Am hoping that will improve my mindset. I don't feel like it, but am gonna do it!
I went to the circus with my family on Boxing Day. Had to bug out at interval and wait for the family outside. Just couldn't enjoy it! And the volume went through the roof.
I'm angry that I have to make these adjustments in my life, but am not gonna dwell on what's happened, and do my best to cope with the now. I wish you all the best mate.

You didn't hear it in a quiet room? That seems odd. Have you had an ENT appointment yet?

If I made the room really quiet then yea the t would calm right down too the point it was almost gone.

Still awaiting ent. Not that they can help anyway.

HI Jason,
Sorry to hear about the spike in your tinnitus. You were doing the right thing by wearing earplugs and it's good to go out and about to places that you have mentioned. However, as I'm always advising people that have tinnitus: wearing hearing protection is no guarantee they are one hundred percent safe from external noise irritating their tinnitus.

Behind each ear there is a hard piece of bone called the Mastoid bone. It is honeycombed and has air pockets. If external sound is loud enough (including low bass frequencies) they have the ability to pass through the mastoid bone and enter the inner ear and irritate the cochlea, as you have unfortunately found out. Even custom made moulded earplugs wont stop external sound passing through the mastoid bone if they are loud enough.

I hope your tinnitus calms down.
All the best
Michael

It's been at this level now for 3 days.
The day after the concert the hearing in my
Left ear dropped so much I couldn't hear at all. Thankfully It came back but not to where it was before it dropped. My hearing test apps show the drop too. Obviously the show had caused more hearing loss and therefore more tinnitus.

Losing my mind now.

Hopefully things will return to normal give it a little more time. I advise you to start taking Gingko Biloba but not any kind. The type you want is made by Avogel. It is in tincture form (liquid) and I've been told it's one of the best. I have always taken it and convinced its increased my hearing and helped my tinnitus. It increases blood circulation to the body extremities: feet, hands and head including the Auditory pathways. It is pricey but I get a good deal from a seller on Amazon UK. It is available in two sizes: 100ml & 50ml. The 100ml is normally £18 in shops they sell it for £13.85. The dosage is 15 drops in a little water 3x a day.

All the best
Michael

@Jason C Hope your ears are doing better. Any updates on whether you've seen a doctor or if there was an improvement in the last couple of weeks?

Hiya, thankfully the left ear is doing better now, the tinnitus is still the same though.

Still havnt got an appointment with ent but nothing they can do anyway.

Still depressed as hell, almost 8 months now, just trying too keep going.
