My Posting Place

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand MPP. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also @Contrast 's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike MPP truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in @threefirefour 's existential catchphrase "I like the site, and what it stands for, but I don't always care for whats posted and who's posting." which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as @Mr Worried 's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a MPP tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

*sips* yup, MPP was a good thread

I am astonished that I never heard a single PSA or awareness campaign to warn people about noise induced HL and tinnitus in my entire life. I didnt even know that it was permanent until I got it. However I have heard countless PSA's and lectures about the dangers of marijuana, which doesnt cause any harm whatsoever. :bored:

It's been a long time since I looked at my chart. I recall 10 and 12k mHz being over 90% loss. Conversation levels something like 35-40% loss. 3k dollars for hearing aids I don't use much anymore. (Recruitment is making up for some missing F's and S's?) I have yet to learn about audiology. I've been dealing with the psychiatrist and psychosis more than the ENT and audiologist.
How do you define recruitment?

Hyperacusis without pain.

I have that too and it's really annoying.

@Contrast you said your right ear T is very mild but your left is reactive? Is that right?
my right ear is 35db usually. My left ear is very mild but reactive and has recruitment, my right ear has a very mild painful hyperacusis that is completely gone most of the time, but can sneak it's way back.

Hm, i think mine is similar. The right ear is very mild, my silent bedroom 28-32 db covers it already. Just with my head against the pillow i hear it.

But the left ear behaves strange, mostly it's silent but when i'm around loud noise i get kind of a beeping that stops immediately when i plug my ears. The worst is a waterfall or loud rain, there seems always to be a ringing thats coming from the sound itself. My T is not louder when i turn away from the sound.

Is that similar to your T?

no, my right ear can get up to 40 db on a bad day tbh.

RIP 2,100 likes to myself.
(all the likes from threefirefour and my private PM was removed)
so i went from 7,450 to like 5,300

still in the 1% tinnitus talk elite though

UPDATE

Wait TF4's likes went down by over a 1000 as well.

someone could have requested their account to be deleted

no biggie i had way too many likes anyway it was stupid

tbh I don't care, no biggie
FYI, that was site-wide purge during the (automatic) process of recounting the likes; all the PM likes were reset from everyone, with post and profile post likes remaining intact.

So wasn't anything you did wrong or such.

Oh that makes sense. Thank you for explaining it we thought there was a comment purge or a large forum user was deleted.

Hello Contrast. I don't know much about audiology terms! Only the brief comments made by the ENT. (for the last year it's been catholicism and psychiatry). Isn't recruitment the brain amplifying to make up for hearing loss? At first I always wore hearing aids, then they seemed too loud. Turn the volume down and I can't hear. Turn it up and it's annoying (catch 22). I stopped wearing them all the time, they pick up too much noise. Either I'm learning to recognize words without hearing the f's and S's or this sensitivity and amplification of recruitment is helping. (?)

The first two years of severe T, I alternated earmuffs (deprivation) with mp3 audio input (stimulation). I tried to confuse my brain, gave me a feeling of control!

Now I sing/hum songs for a period of time then stop. When the silence bothers me, I start singing/humming again! (in apartment now, testing the neighbors, ha). I've gained a ton of weight and developed a deep baritone that I mix with treble sounds. (Gregorian chant with beatbox, haha but true!)

I customize my own vocal audio production to fit my ever changing white, pink and brown noise requirements or whatever all those sound programs are!:D:LOL::D:LOL::D

recruitment is honestly a lose term

it can be reffered to loudness hyperacusis or severe low frequency hearing loss.

For example some people can't hear thunder or loud booms (because they are totally low frequency deaf)
but can still hear high pitches just fine like whistles, birds chirping, piercing high pitch tones ect.

Problem is there is NO CLASSIFICATION

just normies describing things loosely based on what they do.

recruitment is honestly a lose term and most audiologist aren't going to keep up to date with the newest research on how the brain plays a role in hearing loss.

normies don't understand the importance of classifying things, Throughout science classification of living animals and even classification of many other disorders, diseases, injuries ect and how they relate to each other are important.

Hyperacusis doesn't have publicly acknowledged variations, just lose terms that umbrella a bunch of different conditions relating to ear pain from cochlear damage, neurological amplification of noise, and psychological issues. No one seems to call that out as a problem and they throw everyone with these conditions in the same group.

There are some pages that are saying things like recruitment is caused by hair cells, THIS IS JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE TINNITUS IS CAUSED BY BENT HAIR CELLS. Tinnitus research proved them wrong.

I believe recruitment is neurological, not peripheral. But sadly I can't confirm it like we can tinnitus.

I don't have enough evidence to suggest rather recruitment is neuro or peripheral.

Maybe theres two types, LOL.

these are burning questions I wonder about but don't bother mentioning because of how the research is not there yet.

You're the director of this site? As soon as I get paid I'm going to put a couple hundred bucks in your pocket. This site has been a Godsend for me.
