My Posting Place

Honestly this is like, the last place people on the site want to be lectured on. Especially someone suffering as much as dpdx who has heard this a million times, and it never becomes any less of a platitude. I'm not saying you should stop, just be aware of this.

He was being nice and giving me hope. Even though I am pretty much hopeless now. I am 8 months in and saw 0 improvement. I guess permanent T and permanent H :( :( but who knows?
Where is contrast?

Yeah that's true. I used to have terrible tinnitus, and I know how bad it is to have it and get the old habituation crap when you're dealing with terrible tinnitus. I know 85dB T is a good guy.

He's around just not as active.

Please dont mention that word. It makes me hurl.

@threefirefour

Try amping it up with several devices. Mine are random things added over the years.

A small two speed fan that will clamp to your nightstand is good. Makes noise, provides air flow, circulation and helps keep your face cool. T makes me intolerant of heat and clostrophobic.

Also a tower type ionizer, three speed, oscillates and has remote.

Also a large dehumidifier with compressor motor.

Mp3 player: plug it into a pair of computer speakers on your nightstand and play something helpful. I like Gregorian chant and similiar of monastic nuns and monks. I've been trying Mozart, meh...

Run the house/apt. fan constantly, and tv.

Yup, sh*t is running all around my house so I can mask this monster!

Tell me about it. I can say any cuss word easy but I always struggle with that one. I could call it the H word, but that's Hyperacusis (probably another word you don't like so sorry).

Habituation is possible for people who have mild tinnitus beyond that NOPE!
Do you think I would have habituated now to my piercing, soul shattering, life sucking tinnitus by now? NOPE, reason is because I cant as its too loud, the louder the volume, the more problems the person has. Unless we have some device that can lower my tinnitus back to a 2 or 3 then sure the H word can be applied, but with a 8 tinnitus I dont think so!
Tinnitus is hell's soundtrack.

Personally "masking" just aggravates me. Totally cool if it helps you guys of course.

I feel like "habituation" and "masking" are two normal words that were hijacked by TRT devils because they sound half high-fallutin.
I prefer to call it "getting more used to it" (for mild tinnitus!) and "using other sounds to try to make it easier to deal with". That's all it is. It's nothing fancy and certainly nothing medical. TRT scum. Call a spade a spade and at least admit your "therapies" are nothing. Feh.

TRT is a scam as is CBT. We live in 2018 for god's sakes not in 1970. I did CBT therapy two sessions and it was BS. I was told the following:
"Oh, your T can reduce"
"THink about positives in your life"
"Put some relaxing music"
"Life should be enjoyed every day"

I was like NOPE! Not helping..

Exactly! I remember running into the H word when I was reading the Analects again. It's a normal word, but it was hijacked by dishonest people pretending to sell something of value when in reality they're just wrapping up a big old box of nothing.

And "masking" for tinnitus has been around since at least ancient Greece. They should not pretend that they have some sort of new breakthrough that hasn't been around since the dawn of western civilization.

@1000 when you got your acoustic trauma did you have a cool feeling in the ear?
What caused your trauma? Have you done an audiogram? DPOAE?
Do you have T in one or both ears? Hyperacusis?

I got the same cooling feeling during my second trauma. My T increased and I developed H. I did an ear test that was 110db and lasted for 3 minutes. I lost a lot of hearing because of that test and now dealing with T and H.
Your situation sounds like mine.
Can you raise your voice without causing discomfort?
oh And DPOAE is a ear test (not that loud) that tests the outer cochlea cells.

h doesnt seems to be extreme but have the constant pain and get the burning and stabbing...

I dont get pain nor burning and stabbing just discomfort when I raise or other people raise their voice.
I feel sorry for you :( :(

We might be similiar in that sense that we both cant talk as it causes discomfort?
The cooling feeling we felt in our ears when the trauma happened is probably nerve fibers being destroyed.
I have noticed 0 improvement since I got Hyperacusis (Jan 29), and Severe T (jan 17), everything is the same.
My DPOAE showed damaged outer cochlea cells.

The t in the r its a high pitch sound veryyyy loud. In the left its even worst with a robotic cricket.

Your H is causing T go go crazy, same thing with me. I have a very loud tone that can be heard over people's voices. It is so loud that it causes me headaches.
