Good advice RE: how to speed up cure... from an anon?

* * * * *

Step 1: Find stories, facts, and statistics about veterans with tinnitus. Document the connection between tinnitus and every other condition plaguing veterans, including increased risk of suicide.

Step 2: Email journalists with your findings. Got a veteran friend? You two are two well-meaning amateurs who believe you have found the cause of all the chaos at the VA and its healthcare system. Give the journalists the clickbait they so desperately desire. "Is this 'brain infection' to blame for woes at VA?" - or - "Could a strange ear disorder explain why so many veterans are committing suicide?"(Of course, it's not an infection. Hence the scare quotes. But you could present it as a form of neurological infection that spreads, and infects the rest of the body via the mind-brain connection. Or at least do so enough to give the journalists some mainstream headlines.

Step 3: Once you get some stories published, all of you should start emailing your local politicians. Calling works too. They NEED to pick up and document your emails. It tells them they better do something or else they will look bad and cowardly. Example: demand answers about this mysterious ear illness and ask how they are going to protect the veterans who suffer from it and demand something be done about this tinnitus villain that increases suicide rates. Before it spreads to the children and our schools. Logic goes out the window.

Step 4: Plant the idea of a Priority Review Voucher reward for the company that solves this ear-brain suicide-causing parasite for good. Politically, who can argue against the cause? Politically, who wouldn't gain by presenting a bill that is addressing that scary ear virus (or was it a parasite? eh whatever) and saving the public? Who could be against incentivizing big pharma to cure this widespread but little-known tin-eye-dis condition? If you've properly executed the 3 prior steps, the answer is no one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_review#Priority_review_voucher_program

Step 5: Keep applying pressure until they are so sick and tired of getting emails and phone calls that they just sign the damn bill. FDA Priority Review Voucher essentially lets pharma companies skip the approval wait time. And they can stockpile them. So that when they cure a big moneymaker, they can get 4 extra months onto the market and possibly even skip ahead of competitors who are racing to offer treatment to market.

Don't thank me for the work of an anonymous tipster.

Also, if I recall correctly... this anonymous tipster wondered if any of the more-recent FDA Priority Review Voucher categories could apply to tinnitus?

Extension for medical countermeasures
The Senate's Medical Countermeasure Innovation Act of 2016 proposed adding a new category of drugs to the priority review voucher program. In 2016, it was confirmed that the approval of drugs for medical countermeasures would be eligible to earn a priority review voucher. Medical countermeasures are drugs to "prevent or treat harm from a biological, chemical, radiological or nuclear agent identified as a material threat".

Especially after those "sonic weapon" and "sound attacks" at the U.S. embassies in Cuba and elsewhere. Seems like curing tinnitus could be perceived as a necessary and vital medical countermeasure. If enough people made the connection. But hey, this is coming from the INTERNET and WIKIPEDIA so who knows what is a good idea or not amirite?

do you have noise induced pain? (i'm sorry if I asked this before)

I do wince at how loud things are sometimes, but my dumb self never thought to cover my ears even though it hurt. I still wonder how I never managed to realize that it's common sense to cover your ears. LOL. Never thought of my ears as something I would need to "protect" I guess. I always winced in pain when the concert stereos were super loud, or at loud noises such as balloons popping or clinking dishes. I even remember an instance where the venue was playing some ads REALLY loudly, and I said to a friend "Geez it's so unnecessarily loud" and I continued to NOT cover my ears... /facepalms Even when I was in Vegas, I continued to let the music assault my ears without earplugs while thinking "that is LOUD...."

I'm definitely not the brightest lol. :bored:

I guess I would have to say I did have a high tolerance to loud music, but not so much nowadays after the hearing loss diagnosis!
the cochlea has noiceptors (pain detecting nerves) that barely work. The threshold of pain doesn't begin until like 125-130db (long after damage is happening at 90db) Or longterm exposure of 80db for several hours. So one can go to loud clubs, loud cars, loud ear devices and engage in unsafe hearing activities without feeling any consequence.

CochlearFunction-Nerve.jpg

95% of OHC nerve fibers transmit sound, but a small minority 5% transmit pain signals and they are only activated by extremely loud noises. This is called cochlear noiception or noxacusis , it's the ears way of defending itself from losing my hearing.

These pain fibers vaguely resemble Type C pain fibers found elsewhere in the body responsible for giving the sensation of deep burning pain and acheing.

However once again it fails to work until it's too late, and then the noiceptors don't turn off as hearing damage cannot recover.
(atleast that's my hypothesis) The noiceptors will go back to sleep once the cochlear is healed.

edited: Interesting! Just read your comments in the chat, that probably explains why even a paper bag crinkling makes me cringe. lol

Interesting! So these noiceptors is what's causing tinnitus? And it will never stop since the ear doesn't heal? :( Or am I understanding this wrong lol
no it's what causes burning ear pain, not at all what is causing tinnitus.

Some people Had experienced their T fading. A possible explanation is that T is created in the brain. The brain neurons have the capacity to change...

Have you experienced any fading compared to how your T was, say, three months ago?

Yeah! My tinnitus has definitely gotten better on some days, worse on others when I sleep late/eat badly or heard some loud noises for the day. But I can say it is an improvement from what it was a few months ago.

edit: Weird thing is though, it switches from unilateral to bilateral sometimes lol.

Wonderful! It ought to continue to fade! Just make sure to not hurt your ear again (and especially during this vulnerable time of the first year after the onset).

Yeah I just noticed it in April of 2018! Either it just started then or I just never noticed it before. I hope it just started in April cause then I'd be more hopeful of it going away. :( Thanks Bill I'll definitely be sure to cover my ears around noises this time.

Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna do this. But, isn't it likey government funding will just go to more CBT?

Ooh. I've never had burning pain from noise, just more like "OUCH that's loud" sort of thing.
No one is exactly certain what causes that, maybe hyperactivity in the audiotory brain (which is confirmed to be tinnitus), maybe the brain trying to act as an internal hearing amplifier to make up for hearing loss, maybe certain hair cells lost nerve fibers that detect soft noise detection but they can still hear loud noises. Maybe the OHC's are damaged and screwing up their normal amplification process.

However I do not believe that is the same thing as burning pain hyperacusis, ( I could be wrong such as if OHC damage plays a role)

You do realize that when people had a choice (socialism in the USSR or Cuba, China, or Eastern Europe vs. capitalism in the West), people were voting with their feet, and they were voting for capitalism, right?

Most recently, folks like you had been celebrating Venezuela getting rid of capitalism. Now they have been reduced to eating zoo animals there. So are you ignorant (of history and economics, and a lot more) or insane, or what?
"Folks like me" ignorant" insane", I apologize about using the word capitalism, I was trying to make a point, unsuccessfully about teachers and doctors doing the right thing at times out of goodwill, not always money. I was a fool to say the "capitalist" word . I am trying to avoid violence both physical and verbal at this stage in my life. I'm not a fan of Venezuela or North Korea, I'm a fan of my 3 kids and their mother, my wife. I am in a lot of pain, my tinnitus is bad, and I'm keeping it together for my family right now.

Please accept my peace offering, I could use a break.

I consider myself to be a victim of the regime in the USSR, so I was compelled to write what follows and "spread awareness."

This (goodwill > money) was the idea that the USSR was built upon. People respond to incentives. You might Want goodwill to be a reliable incentive that is more effective than money, but it turns out that when money is the incentive things get done faster and better.

It was literally the case that (not counting the important people in the communist party) the upper class in USSR were worse off than someone on social assistance in the West. My grandfather was earning 300 rubles per month (he had a Ph.D. degree at a time before degree and grade inflation) and my grandmother was earning 200 rubles a month (she was a doctor who worked overtime). This was happening at a time when the average monthly salary was 100 rubles a month and very few people would earn more than 150 rubles a month. They couldn't afford a car. Right after my family migrated to Canada (when we were receiving social assistance), our standard of living was higher than that of my grandparents. We had a car, our apartment was better than the one my grandparents lived at, we could buy better food, clothing, electronics, etc.
Please accept my peace offering, I could use a break.
I read the above only after I typed up my response above. I decided to share those facts and my family's history.

I wish you and your family well.

I am totally infuriated that people keep showing up here obviously in the acute stage of hearing loss/tinnitus and there isn't a way for them to get dexamethasone or IGF-1 injections which have been proven to significantly recover people from this. What the hell is going on here?
