Here is yet another rant on the British Tinnitus Association aka BTA from me.
Here is a recent Tweet from them:

Here is a link to the study:
https://pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/2019_AJA-18-0174
and the conclusion of the study:
"Relationships between proposed objective and self-reported components of self-reported tinnitus distress are considered, with some aspects of tinnitus distress more closely related to physiological mechanisms than others. It is suggested that, with further research, the cortisol awakening response (AUCi) may be put forward as a credible objective biomarker of tinnitus distress."

FYI stress causes cortisol levels to rise.

Why are they so focused on being able to actually measure that we have tinnitus over self reporting? Because it will become a governmentally recognized disability, worthy of financial support from the state? The answer is yes. Also, there are probably many causes of elevated cortisol levels upon awakening besides just tinnitus so this is a shit measure.

This is what the BTA is working on. Helping us prove we aren't liars and not really even proving it well. Good work @David.

I think doing that would be huge.
It would also increase the chance of getting funding for research into cures.

"Multiple causes" is a problem that often arises in those kinds of studies. Researchers know how to adjust their results and fix this problem.

I understand that people will manipulate the system and they want an objective measure, but damnit, not being able to self report is crazy, and we definitely know this disease exists.

"deaf culture" ahahah wtf

When I travel home from work saturday nights I pass a place where deaf people hang out. They have some kind of party and everybody is talking with their hands. Quite a sight to behold, and I wonder how bad the collective tinnitus is inside that party. It's kind of freaky honestly

I can understand that but I find it weird that a lot of people don't want deafness to be cured as it
would be "cultural genocide" that's just insane. Then again, being born with deafness is way different than developing hearing loss overtime.

Tinnitus is like prison.

But only a mental prison. We're not physically restricted. Instead we are mentally caged with a hideous noise.

The positive to take from this: Of all prisoners, we have it the best.

(Woke up with this thought. Don't know why.)

Depends on how loud tinnitus is. When it is loud enough, the word "best" above ought to be replaced with "worst."
I used to believe the same, because I was consumed by my own suffering. But if we look around us, there are many medical conditions which impede life and cause suffering much more than tinnitus does. (and like the thoughts of many others, no one's T is louder than mine) imho!

So far this condition has no cure. Looking for the positive is the only survival tactic. This doesn't mean we claim our condition isn't horrible.

Is this somehow "normie" related? I don't even know what a normie is, other than "normie bad".

I've only heard alt-right/autistic people and other Trump fanboys use the term "normie".
