And you wonder why doctors throw nothing but dangerous psyche drugs at us, because of people saying it's 90 percent mental, that's why....

You have misunderstood what I mean when I say tinnitus is 90% mental like so many others on this thread. Therefore, it's pointless trying to explain as you haven't read and understood the rest of my post.

Tinnitus is persistent ringing in the ears. Nothing more, nothing less. Depression, depersonalization, and anxiety are not tinnitus even though tinnitus can and oftentimes does lead to those things. Those are the mental things.

So when you say tinnitus is 90% mental you are flat out wrong.

You're busted. Just admit it. One thing that makes a man a true man is the ability to admit when they are wrong and take the advice of others.

Busted, I like that. You have made me laugh on this cold afternoon here by the seaside. I just finished washing the car and needed some cheering up, so thank you :)

You need to stop phrasing it that way. It gives new comers a false impression of what the SOC treatments are capable of.

I will do nothing of the sought, and will continue to express my opinion about tinnitus the way I see fit. If you do not understand what I mean and haven't got the curtesy and good manners, to ask politely what I mean that is your problem.

I wish you well
Michael

@JohnAdams

I thought you might want to correspond in a dignified and civilised manner but I see you haven't changed. Still using language from the gutter. I suppose it's true what they say: You can take the man out of the gutter but you cannot take the gutter out of the man.

In future when you wish to quote something that I have written, please have the decency to quote what I mean correctly. I said: Tinnitus is 90% mental. By this I mean it is intrinsically linked to our mental and emotional wellbeing. Of course, as you are someone that hasn't had tinnitus long and lack experience, you fail to understand what I mean. Tinnitus veterans like @fishbone do understand so please contact him and I'm sure he'll enlighten you and I promise, you'll feel a whole lot better and more knowledgeable about tinnitus.

Another thing. I realise you are not from the UK so hope you don't mind me saying, you have used the word bloke in the wrong context. @Jcb will bring you up to speed. It is not a word that I have ever used, as it's often spoken by certain types of people that have no interest in speaking English well.

All the best
Michael

You stand correct. It is mental and it's important to remain positive, even when things are difficult. Negative thoughts and constant inner struggles/stress can just annoy the tinnitus further. How we perceive things is vital and how we re-act is vital. We can only try to help people, if they listen great, if not great as well :)

HI @fishbone

Thank you for responding to my post and for your excellent explanation of what I mean when I say tinnitus is 90% mental. These newbies amongst us just don't get it and I hope they will now. I wondered where you have been and hope everything is ok? Please don't stay away too long as I just can't handle this all by myself...lol

Take care
Michael

If it's mental, then with your positive attitude shouldn't your tinnitus be low? I remember you saying many times that yours is very loud, which means that at least in some cases tinnitus doesn't give a damn about a person's mentality......It will do whatever it want.

My tinnitus is anything but low. It's intrusive at the OML (oh my lord) this is crazy loud. I still say to my self (I cannot believe just how loud this thing is)My hearing is worst than 90% of the people on this site as well. I carry myself differently than most on this site.

Yet, I have to remain positive and take care of the many duties I face each day. No one takes care of me. No one cooks for me, no one takes care of my sick dogs. No one, only me. No one does my shopping when I have a fever that is high, only I take care of me and my life. I live and take care of my duties no matter how loud this demon screams out my head.....

I make it work no matter what hell I face in my life. I have to, no one will pick me up and help with my daily tasks.

Tinnitus does not care who it afflicts, that is true It can be mild, moderate, or just absurd loud. How one re-acts makes a huge difference no matter how loud or mild their tinnitus is.

Just because I post positive messages DOES NOT mean life is easy, nothing even close to it......

@Michael Leigh @fishbone

get this through your heads, please.

when you say tinnitus is mental, you are clearly lumping in the distress it causes in with the actual ringing.

these are two separate but related things. when people read "tinnitus is x% mental" then they get confused and think that they can lower their tinnitus by thinking positive.

tinnitus is ONLY the ringing, it is 100% a physical ailment, it causes other mental problems and that is what you are calling tinnitus too and that is wrong.

But does the limbic system have to do with the volume of the tinnitus or not?
