There's an unofficial kernel for Windows 2k that lets you run semi modern software like XP. I got it to work with Firefox 38, but Youtube stopped working once the back up flash player version of Youtube's website was removed in mid 2017.

It was still clunky on the modern web, screen tearing and couldn't render fonts correctly.

Just don't use Windows 10 if you don't like it. Your not forced to be Microsoft's bitch. Try Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Linux Mint (cinnamon). They are all the same OS under the hood with different desktops environments that change the look, feel and navigation the computer. I choose 18.04 LTS (long term support). It gets security updates until April 2023.

No, Windows "distro's" aren't a thing and Microsoft use to literally sue people for doing that. Usually they have malicious software or shitty gimmicks that make them inferior to actual Windows 7.

If you don't like Windows 10 don't use it. You can still use Windows 7 and just ignore the EOL fear mongering or just switch to a Linux distro based on Ubuntu like me since I dislike Windows as a whole.

Missing the 9x series/Early Windows is just nostalgia outside of workstation and old gaming uses. Once you boot one up in a virtual computer and try to use it for daily use you realize it's crap online and it doesn't even look right on modern HD monitors.

Just Maybe an old computer can be useful as a productivity workstation that stays offline. If you have all the software from the time you used and you are a free lancer/small business owner or working on a school project then sure that would actually the the best use for a legacy OS because good software is useful forever.

yes I am. Under these scenarios.

An un-updated computer is safe if it's connected to your home's local connection with a firewall and the web browser, email client and programs that access the internet frequently are kept up to date. Common sense also helps more then any anti virus.

Just keep using windows 7 if it makes you happy. It was the last version of Windows before the pajeet takeover of Microsoft with the shitty metro flat mobile interface. Back when Balmer was a tyrant but you still had to admit they offered a damn good OS.

It's amazing how the people providing cheap overseas labor for Micorsoft literally became the ones running it over the course of 20 years. That actually happened to the majority of the tech industry. An American tech giant literally becomes a quasi Indian/east asian company.

What do you guys think of webapps that are downloadable and work offline? You can't really accuse them of being botnet spyware if they are fully downloadable and run without an internet connection.

draw.io is an example of one I like. It has cloud features for the normies but it is still downloadable and can run as a application in a Firefox or Chromium web browser 100% offline. I'd rather see more of this javascript/web browser based software then cloud computing. Windows, Mac, Linux, or whatever platform it will work. As long as you can use a modern versions of Chrome or Firefox. It's a good idea for software universalism that doesn't invade privacy.


It's also a really good program for making flowchart and diagram illustrations.

Caroline, their audiologist, told me they still have patients using devices purchased back in 2015, when they were selling this as the 'MuteButton'. She said they have a number of people who use it for a while, it calms their tinnitus down for 6 months or so and then they go back to it again. I could cope with that. It didn't smell like BS when she told me.

OS X is a locked down prison. It discourages users from learning how it works under the hood. Apple tech support doesn't even know how the system works under the hood. They just back up files and factory reset it. Apple software and hardware isn't designed to be repaired. They don't want you to fix it, factory reset, update or buy a new one.

Mac has most of the same shitty downsides as Linux. Such as repo/appstore slavery and reverse compatibility difficulty and other fundamental autistic problems related to Unix without any of the positives like passionate FOSS devs and the ability to use different desktop environments. Eventually Linux is going to fix it's short comings with agnostic package management systems and software bundled inside ISO's that work on any distro, while Mac is going to stay shit. Apple intended it to be crappy so you buy paid updates expecting them to fix things. Apple's primary audience isturbo normies that just press buttons on a screen and browse social media.


The future for Apple is cloud computing. You'll get a tablet with speakers that connects to a server overseas. Returning to the mainframe. An operating system that only works online. It will compete with Google's cloud OS as well.

LOL I have an old torrent file of CS5 and they can kiss my ass.I've been very vocal about my belief in the Bible. Many Christians read the prophecies about the future to mean that there is going to be a totalitarian world government ruled by someone called the AntiChrist. I don't believe that is what the Bible teaches, but regardless, it looks like it is coming anyway. Seriously back in 2008 I was using this software called "WavePad" it was meant for editing audio files and it worked perfect. I saved the old downloader. I keep using it after the newer versions sucked and became bloated with "UPLOAD TO SOCIAL MEDIA" and advertisements within the software and stuff I didn't need.

I contacted the devs and asked why the newer version (2015 wavepad) was so much lousier then the 2008 version. They told me I could "pay to hide adds" They also got butthurt and warned me it would be illegal if I distributed the 2008 version of their program to anyone.

That's because the old version had all the necessary components to get the job done without the unnecessary crap/bloat. It's a complete meme to update to the latest version of a program if it works. Sadly it broke compatibility with XP and 7 when I updated to Windows 10.

Mac and Linux by default make software preservation/reverse compatibility very difficult because of how Unix systems share software dependencies. Devs hate fixing broken software every major update. They need a way to $$$ in the process to maintain it.

Windows devs can make a program and it will last for 3 or so major versions (10 years) if not forever. Windows can update to a newer version and it usually won't break the vast majority of software. Mac and Linux update and every breaks. Devs have to constantly maintain software. This encourages them to add botnet features so they can have money to maintain it.

Windows devs just copied MacOS X/Iphone devs to find out how to make more money. iphone devs are the ones that started it.

I find myself to be very susceptible to spikes. I don't even use a fan on low to mask at night. As long as I take care of my ears my tinnitus is usually pretty low.

Man, in my 8 years of college I worked back of the house and front of the house from basic pizza up to fine dining. I'm not the best at what I do, having 2 engineering degrees, developing software and fixing software for factory/business processes and I often worry about what would happen if I get kicked out of the rat race and have to go back to restaurant stuff and be exposed to loud sounds, potentially worsening my tinnitus and ruining my life . I have to make money to not be a sponger on my wife and I've got a little boy so I have to push through and have hope that I don't royally fuck up or have someone else accidentally hurt me worse. Maybe use this as a motivation to learn to code and do ERP stuff just for your own health. Working in front of a computer is safe.
