Sleeping Positions... Everything Makes It Worse!

I don't know what's causing this and am terrified it's a sign that damage is somehow happening to my good ear.

I wouldn't worry about that. My right side hearing is more or less perfect, but my T moves around my head and sometimes it's actually a lot more significant on the right than on the left (where I have a high-frequency deficit). It's just neurons being annoyingly overexcited, it's not necessarily an indication of damage.

@Alphasignal5 what caused your SSHL in the first place?

That is a very good question, one which I would pay great money to answer.
Initial thoughts were that it was caused my a virus, however my good ear seems to be deteriorating now too which to me points towards an autoimmune disease such as Menieres or Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease.
I'll see what the doc says on Saturday, but I'm pretty scared as both of those are basically incurable, you can only throw steroids at them and pray.

The low frequency ringing started after I lost my low frequency hearing in the damaged ear, albeit a couple of weeks after the initial damage, but seems to make sense.

Same here I lost most high-frequencies due to a SSHL. Can you please make the knock test?

Actually there's a cure for Meniere's! UFC president Dana White did the treatment and it was a success. I am also looking into this.

Alphasignal5 & @NiNyu Yes. There is a cure for Meniere's Disease. Alan Shepard had the surgery back in the 1980s and was able to go to the moon on the last moon mission!

Dana White did the treatment and it was a success.

Lol, Dana White is also probably a billionaire!
I don't know what Alan Sheppard had done but I suspect it was a surgical procedure to aid his balance. You can cut nerves, take steroids, diuretics, change your diet, but it's still degenerative.
Unless you're Dana White and you can afford stem cell treatment...

Alphasignal5, true Dana White has the money and the right connections. But the procedure is actually not that expensive. I might try it soon.

@NiNyu If you do try the procedure for Meniere's, please let us know how it goes. I believe Alan Shepard had tinnitus, loss of balance, and some deafness. He did have a surgical procedure to correct his condition.

Hi

I had some pretty serious hearing loss 10 years so where I lost full and complete hearing in my left ear. They called it SSHL (Sudden sensorineural hearing loss) and said it was caused by a brain tumor or virus and a whole bunch of other diseases. MRI scans, Steroid treatment prednisone, hundreds of blood tests etc etc but the end result I was still deaf in the left ear 10 years later.

Last year (2014) I had 2 pints of beer over a whole evening out and woke the next day with the worst handover I have ever had. After a long search I discovered forums where lots of people were slowly becoming allergic to beer and I heard a story about a guy who had the same problem as me (SSHL) but had been tested positive for Wheat and Chocolate Allergies. He eliminated them and 7 days later his hearing came back. So I had nothing to loose and also eliminated them. My hearing in the left ear came back after 10 years 7 days later! Astounding.

Why Wheat/Chocolate? I don't really know but do know that if I eat wheat or chocolate or drink beer I hearing goes again. I wonder if its something like Candida (will be tested next week) as I also have since discovered I am B12 and D deficient which is being treated with BetterYou liquid B12 and D3 Sprays to avoid my rubbish stomach and its malabsorbsion which is probably linked. Fingers crossed I will finally find the source so it cannot happen again and I can go back to normal.

Its very scary and depressing to hear what these ENT consultants offer as an explaination for SSHL and I accepted this explanation for 10 years. I hope you recover and truly hope you will try the wheat/chocolate/beer elimination for 7 days and see if it works for you. Please update this page with the results !

How much hearing loss have you experienced? I'd be interested in hearing more.

Best

coco

@cocolond That is an amazing story. I have not had very good luck with ENTs, but I have never heard anything like your story. Wow!

@NiNyu Best of luck with the Meniere's procedure!

Skull-based surgery. I am scheduled in two weeks. It will be a co-surgeon case. I am actually looking forward to it, because I have been suffering for 14 months. I was told time after time that I just needed to learn to live with it. It took trying every recommended treatment and persistence over 14 months to find out what was wrong. In my case the artery enters into my inner ear, and I won't find out what exactly they are going to do until my pre-op appointment next week.
how was your surgery ? can you update it ? thanks
my sleeping positions affect my hight pitched tinnitus . MRT results was ok.
