Turmeric with Curcumin Seems to Be Helping

Did you take it with food?
Yeah, a little. A big handful of walnuts and a few sausages. Not really a big meal but very fatty.

I was so hoping to see an improvement in my tinnitus today. Not sure what to do now. I would like to keep trying, but taking big doses of this stuff just seems like I'd be asking for trouble... i seem to get side effects from EVERYTHING!

Curcumin, about 50%

TruNiagen NR I`ve only used for a month so difficult to say, I think it gives a little more energy so far. No big effect yet.

So I have been using curcumin for two months.

While I had good effect in the beginning, it seems to not have continued, and I tried to stop it and start again but didn't notice much changes.

Maybe it was just placebo, or maybe it was so slight that it was within the fluctuation margin.

On the other hand my digestion is better, and it is a good anti-inflammatory so good for health.

I would recommend giving it a try for one or two months, just in case, can't hurt.

What dose did you take?

The question of dosage is tricky, because as I explained in this thread, what is important is the quantity that actually goes in your blood and is active.

You can take 1000 mg of powder curcumin and have 1 mg of active curcumin that actually goes to your blood.

So I will answer differently by saying I took the recommended dose, and twice the recommended dose as a test, and didn't see big differences in terms of tinnitus (because it was within the normal fluctuating range).

I tried the Longvida brand that says it has 285x bioavailability. Did nothing for me at the recommended dose or at 3 grams per day. I did get a spike though.

I'm heavily considering taking curcumin consistently to see if inflammation would have anything to do with my tinnitus, now that I got an audiogram and was also tested for HHL and surpassed normal results for hearing.

Was looking at this one. Expensive but it's 95% tetra-hydro curcuminoids carried by black cumin seed oil. Anyone else tried this one?

Just get the regular kind. Takes lots of it.

I heard my skin might change color.

I also started taking tumeric with curcumin because I suspected inflammation. It seems to help significantly. I drink lots of ginger tea, but I think I'll start taking a ginger root supplement as well. I've tried so many different vitamin supplements and so far only the ones the help with inflammation have been helpful. I have constant fullness in my ears and I can hear fluid in there most of the time, so I'm assuming I have some sort of Eustachian tube issue. I don't have insurance though and I can't afford to pay out of pocket to see an ENT so I may never know.

Try green tea, and look up anti inflammatory diets...

Well, I'm going to try turmeric again. My wife used to cook with turmeric way back in 2010. In 2014 she stopped cooking with it because I was gaining weight (West Indian dishes). Then had my first bout with tinnitus in December 2014 which brought me here. ENT at the time said I had some hearing loss.

Well my wife started cooking with turmeric again in early Jan 2015. I didn't make the connection with some spices and tinnitus. Around mid 2015 the tinnitus wasn't noticeable so I basically forgot about it. Every now and then I would hear the 'eeeeeee' sound in my right ear then it would go away or be so low I didn't notice it. Then in mid 2019 I was gaining too much weight. Then we changed my diet using food that didn't require turmeric or any spice.

Now my tinnitus has returned in December 2019 and my ENT told me I have age related hearing loss like he said in 2014.

Well. I hope I can repeat the same effects of reducing turmeric back in my food.
I'm not sure it is going to work. I have no idea how long it will take or if it even will work this time
But I have to try.

She's the cook and I never asked what she put in the dishes. But I did see the turmeric powder. She might have used curcumin too in the West Indian dishes. I'll ask her.

I wish I could find a support group in New York Area. NY, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

Turmeric in food often isn't enough. The easiest thing would be to try supplementing it and see how that affects your tinnitus level.

Could your tinnitus also be due to high blood pressure?

Feel like I've tried golden paste turmeric enough to post here about it. The first time I started it I took it 3 times per day with food religiously and there was a DEFINITE difference, mostly in experiencing spikes way less often. Then after 2 weeks it seemed to lose its effect which led me to stopping turmeric and trying clonazepam every once and a while, which helped until things went haywire after a month and I had to stop because I was getting withdrawals. Everyone is different but I strongly advise to be careful with benzos, because that was hell. After I recovered from that I made a new batch of golden paste and took it 3 times a day again, and sure enough I'm experiencing a significant improvement in spikes and it's already been 4 days.

So maybe it does help, for me at least? And maybe I should have stuck with it instead of bailing when I got into a bad spike? There are so many variables, and I've tried other forms of turmeric in the past, but none of them ever made any difference to tinnitus like golden paste seemingly has. It may be very effective for some people with tinnitus like mine.

I'm close to the end of a big bottle of tumeric pills from BJs. I have been taking two pills a day and am not experiencing any improvement whatsoever. Tumeric may offer some other health benefits as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory but I'm not seeing any benefits for tinnitus.

I started taking Turmeric (900MG) and Curcumin pills once a day (sometimes twice with meals) and I'm pretty sure my buzzing went down a little. I've been taking it for about 6 weeks now and noticed my tinnitus getting better about 2-3 weeks ago. My tinnitus is from neck and jaw issues and is somatic a little...

My question is can I take the Turmeric and Curcumin pills as long as I want? Also should I try any other supplements or anything that would help my neck stiffness or anything that would make the Turmeric work even better? I wish there was something I could take to loosen up my neck.

@Mathew Gould -- My take is that turmeric and curcumin is essentially food, and shouldn't be any more of a problem than eating other food products. I'm guessing there would be a limit on concentrated curcumin however. -- Regarding neck stiffness, one of the best things I did for my own neck stiffness issues was applying topical DMSO and magnesium oil. I described it fairly extensivley in the following post:

DMSO & Magnesium Oil for Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome (TTTS)

I also have discovered that doing some self-acupuncture in my brainstem area significantly reduces neck stiffness.

I've been taking 3 grams of turmeric pills every day for 6 months... zero change. But the toilet water has a magical glow! ;-)

I tried the DMSO 70% last year and mix it will body lotion and I don't think it helped, but I only tried it for maybe 2 weeks... What is the shelf life on this stuff? I got the DMSO a year ago and its been sitting since... Also the Turmeric and Curcumin is working I'm prettying sure for my neck/jaw induced tinnitus, but it makes me tired. I think I should just start taking it at night.

@Mathew Gould I've been taking curcumin for about a week now, I think it's making a slight difference (seems to be stabilizing and my fluctuations aren't nearly as loud as they used to be now - I can't say they were spikes though). I do believe my neck muscles to play a part in my tinnitus.

But it can also make me really tired at times lol.

@GlennS, did you take prednisone at the start of your tinnitus and did it work? It's not a 1:1 but I tried turmeric because I saw a good number of people here who responded well to prednisone responded to turmeric too. Turmeric did help me get a spike down.

No. I acquired it ages ago before any of that was a thing and kept the problem to myself. I think a lot of the stuff people take that helps prevent tinnitus after an episode doesn't work well when taken after you have it along the lines of closing the barn doors after the horses fled. That doesn't mean it isn't worth a shot but I have low expectations.

Any idea how long it can stay in your system once taken everyday for a month? Will turmeric and curcumin keep improving tinnitus or does it peak?
