Turmeric with Curcumin Seems to Be Helping

Even if curcumin doesn't help my tinnitus and hyperacusis (I'm not sure - tinnitus does seem a little softer and I have better moments with hyperacusis) I'm still going to keep taking this stuff. Curcumin is the shit when it comes to health benefits! Who knows, it could probably also decrease the risk of further ear damage.

Ok, so here's my 2-week check-in of 1950mg a day. I will preface this by saying I made a big mistake in starting 2 new treatments at once which is making is near impossible to figure out which is helping (or if the combo of the two are).

Basically, my tinnitus has been significantly lower. The past few months I would have rated it from moderate/severe in terms of volume and overall intrusiveness in my life. Now I would rate it as mild, and the past 3 days in particular I have gone hours without thinking about my tinnitus. A few weeks ago I was contemplating suicide.

NOW, here's the problem: 1 week before I started the Turmeric/Curcumin, out of desperation I started Nortriptyline for my severe depression since I was desperately struggling and it's one of the few AD's that can sometimes help tinnitus/at least perhaps not increase it. The first week on it I felt it spiked my T and gave me head tinnitus, which is why I then started the Turmeric, basically thinking "what the heck, might as well try." So 2 weeks from that point, my tinnitus is definitely more tolerable but I cannot for sure say it is the Turmeric and not the Nortriptyline or vice versa which is tremendously unhelpful for those of you who are contemplating Turmeric, I know.

My plan is if I can keep things stable at this level for another couple of weeks, I'll stop the Turmeric completely and see if the tinnitus increases--that way I'd know for sure if was that helping me or the medication. So I'll check in again in a little while hopefully with more helpful info!

I've changed my opinion. I am now thinking that curcumin's effects are from antioxidant action, not BDNF levels.

I think we are really on to something here. If reducing inflammation quiets tinnitus and then it flares back up, then maybe there is a feedback loop keeping us from actually healing and it is actually this loop of recurring inflammation that is also causing some of us to have tinnitus, perhaps inflammation in the spiral ganglion neurons.

That Hough Ear Institute pill is a power antioxidant combined with NAC.

I've long thought inflammation is responsible for a lot of my issues from depression to IBS to now tinnitus. I had my doctor run a c-reactive protein test and indeed it showed very high levels of inflammation (though unfortunately it doesn't point to where in the body it is). My theory is it's pretty much everywhere. I'm just gonna continue doing everything I can to reduce inflammation until one of these treatments come to market.

Some of us that have tinnitus that fluctuates and can be reduced with curcumin/turmeric. I am strongly believing that we can cure ourselves somehow and can provide further insight into what is even going on with this disease. It cannot be as simple as having hearing loss, because some people get hearing loss without tinnitus. The level of tinnitus a person has does not always correlate to the level of hearing loss.

So it's only good for those whose tinnitus fluctuates? I was going to try it until I read that...

Powerful anti oxidants. I'm kinda trying to mimic the Hough Ear pill. I believe getting my inflammation down may allow me to heal.
Was reading that Astaxanthin is an extremely powerful antioxidant. It also increases NT-3. May add that to my regimen.

Another user (@Frédéric?) posted a study that showed that, although an increase in NT-3 is good for neurogenesis, too much can be toxic to hair cells. I'm trying to find the fine line. I think i might start with 12mg 2-3 times a week and not go up from there.

I took a dose today and I can say my vision is much better immediately. As in sharper, I still have visual snow at night.

Wish I could take turmeric but contraindicated with MAO mutations :/.

Weird, when I was researching Glutathione earlier Google aka Satan told me related searches included Astaxanthin.

Olive Oil, Resveratrol, and Fish Oil all reduce inflammation and increase BDNF as well. Sometimes I wonder if it was Resveratrol that fixed up my hearing alongside NAD+. You could throw one of those three in there for potentiation of anti-inflammatory effects.

I agree with your previous post though, Nootropics are more for BDNF (Noopept, Piracetam). I too think Curcumin works via fighting inflammation.

I have now become doubtful about the curcumin powder I take. I read that the "spice" turmeric only contains 3% active curcumin ingredient, and the powder I take is sold as a spice, so now I am wondering if it's fruitless to take this powder. My anxiety is up again and tinnitus is not lower, so I think I only had a placebo effect.

I want to get my hands on some high quality supplements with active curcumin ingredient only, but I don't know which one to choose. It's a jungle out there and 80-90% of the products sold are probably very questionable in terms of quality.

I've PMd you a link to where I buy my turmeric. Work up to eating 20 grams a day of it. Turmeric is much more than just curcumin. The best thing would be to buy both turmeric powder and curcumin capsules.

They also sell ashwagandha which I would recommend you to read about and try. As with all herbs, it's important to eat ashwagandha every day for a while before you see effects.

Only buy when turmeric is 50 percent off which it is now.

Thank you so much. I know how much you are hurting, and yet you find the time to, help somebody else. :thankyousign:

I'll look into it.

We all hurt. Helping others in small ways makes me feel better sometimes. Besides, today is a "plugged ears only" tinnitus day. I have it much better than many people here.

I've decided to try Qunol 1500mg daily Turmeric from Costco. I've been taking it since last Tuesday and I've not noticed any change, but I will continue for a few more weeks. I'll report back any result.

John, a Holistic Dr informed me that BDNF itself works as an anti inflammatory, NAC has the same benefits too. NAC has also been used to treat anxiety disorders.

I think that if you are going to notice an effect it will be fairly quickly. Try doubling your dose and make sure you take it with food.

I've started to have a look around for Curcumin products and found this brand on Amazon.

The product itself seems to fit the criteria in terms of active ingredient proportions and I quite like how the brand owner has put himself out there on the page for people to see. Might give it a go...
