University of Minnesota Tinnitus Research with Acoustic and Body Stimulation

@kelpiemsp Thanks again for updating all of us. I was curious if you have heard anything about the next phase of the trial?
Still waiting to hear. With the PI being hired by Neuromod (MuteButton), I am not sure how that will play out. They will send us the results when they are typed up. I am not sure if this is after peer review or not.

The hyperacusis? It was going away for a while...but signal timing definitely helped.

Did you ever experience the sound from the device as annoying? Did you discuss the dB level of this sound? (Someone with hyperacusis might not tolerate 70 dB, but can tolerate 50 dB. Would it still work?)

PI? As in Magnum PI? Why would Neuromod need a private investigator? Or am I missing something here?

Yes I was in the same trial. If @kelpiemsp thinks I signed an NDA in the beginning than I probably did. I remember paperwork just didnt remember it being about not talking. Either way its over.

We haven't gotten any results yet. In fact Ive had no communication since before the holidays. They werent able to tell me how it would wrap up because they didnt know yet. They hadnt heard from the PI and there was other sessions left after mine still.

Always read before you sign anything homie. Even the iTunes terms of service.

I just thought I'd update you guys on some information I received about this trial and phase 3. Since Mr. Lim is on leave with Neuromod they have assigned a new PI and are currently working through all the data assembled from phase 2. At this time there isn't a concrete timeframe for phase 3 to begin. If I hear anything more I will certainly update the forum. @kelpiemsp may hear something before I do.

jmasterj, where did you get this information from?

Does this mean the device will not be released in 2019?

You've conflated two different things. Neuromod (the device that's scheduled for 2019) is an Irish project. This thread is for the Minnesota device, which has no schedule for release yet. They work on a similar principle and there's overlap between the teams but they're distinct. So no worries.

I was able to get in contact with some of the staff at the University who was able to get me in touch with the new PI. They added me to their contact list when they are ready for phase 3, so I will be sure to let everyone know when I hear something. I think right now it is best to let them work on their data and research to be fully prepared for the next phase, so I didn't ask too many questions.

Allan,
As @hans799 there really isn't a release date on the Minnesota device. They seem to be farther ahead than Susan Shore is at the University of Michigan. Professor Lim who was the PI at the University of Minnesota has moved on to Neuromod as the Chief Scientific Officer. You will see the Neuromod device before the Minnesota device, but the positive is the we have seen good things from Minnesota and Professor Lim has certainly carried some of that knowledge over to Neuromod.

I'd love to know what the difference is between these two machines, other than the location of the electrodes. Configured to a persons audiogram, signal timing will be the same for both for it to work. Regardless, it's a pity Susan Shore has taken so long to get to this point.

I don't think all these initiatives are all doing exactly the same thing except for the site of stimulation. The nature of the stimulation (aka signal timing) is going to vary. There is no one set of parameters that works. There is going to be a range of parameters that work. It's just that some are proving to be better than others. Finding the best set of parameters is what all this R&D must be focusing on.

Hy @kelpiemsp

Hope you're doing well and your baby to come too :)

Are you still enjoying silence right now ? No variations in your T?

The sound of water you now described to hear is more blood related to blood pressure?!

Thanks a lot for your answer :)
