What Should I Do About My Family? They Don't Understand What I'm Going Through

No. You're not the issue. Your doctor's comment is.

He was not very helpful.

Asked him to research some drugs for tinnitus he refused and even claimed taking a whole food Vitamin was a bad idea.

Therefore, I sort of ignored him after that comment.

He only stated that I should take FDA approved drugs.

For a doctor that helps people with drug addiction he seems to be very blind to the dangerous situation I was putting myself in.

I should of seen the original doctor again.

The one who demanded I see an ENT straight away.

Unfortunately, my brain was going into shock and I could not think clearly.

Right now there is no pill that you could take to get rid on tinnitus, there is research going on for it though. You could look it up on this website. This is something all of us here have to through, just know that you are not alone and this community is very helpful when it comes to advice. Just try to stay strong and dont do anything that might hurt you more.

I know that no cure exists.

That was my original reason against taking nootropics as If no cure exists and drugs can make tinnitus worse than only risk exists.

I even mentioned that to the first ENT that I was against any nootropic. So instead I focused on my diet.

Granted after being isolated and giving away my thearpy pet I snapped.

I decided to treat my tinnitus and comorbids.

It was just rotten luck that I landed on a NMDA agonist

Well just know that we are all here to help. We all have tinnitus and we would get through this together. Hopefully one day we could all come back here and say our goodbyes because tinnitus was cured.

What did the ENT say about your tinnitus?

Did they give you a hearing test?

Did you tell them about your hyperacusis?

is your hyperacusis defined as noise induced pain? If not what it is it?

The ENT performed a standard 8k hearing test and a Webber test.

No hearing loss was detected.

For some unknown reason my mind decided the ENT missed something that it was hidden hearing loss.

Sadly, the original tinnitus is gone and replaced with high static.

This confirms is inline with my more recent tests where I have mid high frequency loss.

The hyperacusis had not developed at the time of the first ENT visit.

It was a response to loud noise where the tinnitus would increase for a sec.

I was afraid that eventually this spike would become permanent.

That is why I asked my parents to reduce noise around the house.

The events leading me to take the drug were just unfortunate:

Originally, decided against nootropics as I would feel rushed to find a cure.

Since that semester would be a bust and I could research a stack after.

Let's just say that:
Selling my bird.
Getting little support from my family.
Getting kicked out multiple times.
Getting an incompetent GP.
Getting an MRI.

My mind eventually snall plan on killing myself.

I still plan on killing myself as I have lost everything to this curse.

Hey I know things seem rough but please dont do anything like that. I have also had thoughts of suicide but I wont do it. I try every day to not let tinnitus beat me.
I read some of your previous post and you said you are 26 years old, I'm 3 years younger than you and also feel like my future doesn't seem bright, but like I said before we are all on the same ship so please don't jump off it, a cure does seem to be in the works but I cannot say how long it will be until we get our hands on it. We just have to be patient and try to learn to live with it for now.

Believing a cure for chronic tinnitus is
possible ignores the real facts.

Tinnitus once past the actue phase is encoded onto our brains.

While, a cure for actue tinnitus will be possible chronic tinnitus is unlikely.

Hell, $9.9 billion dollars is donated to Parkinsons each year.

Still one of the richest and most famous person with Parkinsons looks like this:

Sure there might be relief one day for tinnitus. However, that is only likely to reduce it's effects marginally.

Given a choice between a life time of suffering or the chance something exists on the other side I know which one I'll pick.

Well I would still say to try to give it a little more time to see how you will end up feeling. From your response it dosen't seem anything I say will change your mind. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you find some relief. Just remember killing your self is not something you could take back.

Neither is tinnitus.

This is a veteran who is interested in research. He says that the FIRST TIME in HISTORY we have reason to hope. Until recently, nobody cared for us. Now there are the first complete remissions of this terrible disease!
@Clare B (Neuromod)
@kelpiemsp (Minessota) - spectacular!
@linearb - He was also temporarily relieved (Susan Shore)

There are a few people who got their tinnitus reduced it is not a big deal.

It depends on how you look at it. I think it's a breakthrough, because before that nothing gave this effect. Until recently, it was not even known that "it" is in the brain and not in the ears

It's a big deal if true, it's at least something compared to nothing before.

I'm still not optimistic, I'm realistic/pessimistic i must say. But I'll wait for the first commercial patients from here that I know they're genuine and wait their reviews.

Truth is we are as likely to be cured as a person suffering from motor neurone disease.

If read reports motor neurone disease they all state that one day a cure will exist.

Regardless if Chronic tinnitus could be cured that would be wonderful news.

In reality we are stuck this way until we die and are just holding onto hope that does not exist.

The problem is we all got the condition before there was a cure and that is the real trouble.

I think sooner or later there will be a cure for every problem we currently face, unfortunately it will be in modifying our genetics so the problem isn't able to occur in the first place rather than treating something that is already there.

Absolutely.

That is the problem everyone thinks they will be cured.

This is not the case. We are screwed.

Came on here to say my parents still will not shut up about taking antidepressants.

Sorry just had to rant.

I relate to your situation a lot. My family thinks eating veggies and taking a ton of vitamins will cure this. And it's hell. I'm 29 and see that my future might be over. I've had this for 4 months.

I'm hoping Neuromod works and that my tinnitus continues to fade.

I tried anti anxiety meds and that lowered the volume of my T a lot. But that's a temporary fix that can unleash hell if you decide to come off of them. I don't have the energy to do 1/3 of the stuff I used to do.

There is no cure our brains are messed up for life but we can possibly find something that decreases the volume of it or gives us back silence as long as we continue to avoid loud noise.

Do you have hearing loss?

Because if not than you have good chance of it going and staying gone.

Exactly, our brains are messed up there is no fix.

I feel like the only reason I am living is because I do not have the courage to kill myself.

One of the members on here has had stem cells inserted into his ear and only had a 20% reduction.

The sad thing is my parents are like let's go to the movies or some crap they really do not understand the condition.

If it makes you feel better you will not care about tinnitus once you are dead.

So what another 60 years of this hell?

Assuming that this condition does not kill us faster?

Because let's face it we are not healthy anymore so our life expectancy are shorter.

If that does convince you than consider Parkinsons where they have proven their life is shorter.

Tinnitus is just stone throw away from Parkinsons

No hearing loss on standard tests. Had two tests in 4 months.

I'm on an antianxiety drug and if I stop the tinnitus will get much louder.

I hope it goes away or fades to 1-2/10 permanently. My lifestyle wouldn't be the same but at least I could work and not be tortured.

I took the antianxiety med because I was in a dark place with 9/10 tinnitus loudness. Literally so loud. I'm mentally strong and this has destroyed me.

Don't do anything permanent like that, wait it out. Everyone is different and it can improve. Mine was a 1-2/10 a few days ago before lowering the antianxiety med. I felt somewhat normal and didn't need to mask or play sounds in a quiet room. Pretty amazing? Now it's louder again after trying a sound therapy with headphones.

Alcohol can quieten tinnitus for many people as said by the British Tinnitus Association but too much will spike it.

Check your hearing with Otoacoustic emission or a Webber test.

If you have no hearing loss than there is no reason it will not disappear completely.

I have perfect OAEs, DPOAEs and no detectable hearing loss up to 16000 Hz.

Cochlear synaptopathy is a very real thing.

That is interesting.

Could it be an auditory hallucination?

How would one even tell the difference without physical evidence.

What frequency is it?

I mostly ascribe to missing limb theory so to see someone with no hearing loss and tinnitus is interesting.

Makes me wonder how little we know about the brain.

Took some meds that can cause tinnitus also. That's a reason it may not go away completely. Either way it's not gone yet and my half week of near silence 1-2/10 tinnitus has spiked to anxiety provoking tinnitus now.

There are people with permanent tinnitus with no hearing loss.

If my spike goes back to baseline and keeps fading over a year it could get pretty quiet though.

This is when you learn to depend on yourself @Fortuna117. In life this applies to almost everything. What can you do to improve your situation?

In one sense your family has been there for you they just don't understand tinnitus severity.
He is only 26. How many are in a situation where they can be independent and self reliant with a condition like this?

That is what I stated to my parents.

That if this was cancer there would be no way I would kicked out of home.

Tinnitus is not taken seriously because it is an subjective problem.

Evident by most doctors believing my problem is psychological and trying to prescribe antidepressants.

Regardless, I should of really thought of
the fact that Tinnitus is subjective as sarcosine was only tested in rats and how do you test tinnitus in rats?
