  • My tinnitus has improved and is barely noticeable; after two weeks of misery, my ETD was causing suffering. Now insomnia
I had a video appointment with my Dr this morning, She went back and forth on multiple drugs and researched side effects, Trazadone it is.
    SharonBell
Supersize my tinnitus seems so much louder when I don't sleep good.
    SharonBell
I was taking trazadone a while back, for anxiety not every day but I quit taking it becauseI thought it was making my head buzz worse. Well my anxiety got so bad like I was going to have a panic attack or something so I started back taking Trazadone.
    SharonBell
It's been 3 days taking it just once a day. I want to go to twice a day. They do seem to help my anxiety especially since I'm wearing my open ear earbuds again doing sound therapy for 4 hours a day starting off I had quit doing it and was just using my sound machines and my phone, but on my ears seems to help take my mind off my T.
I need advice. I have developed insomnia. I'm sure it's due to my anxiety It's been off the charts lately I took benzo at 3:am woke at 6 am

Running man what do you know about gabapentin? I have taken it before for my back it's suppose to block the nerve I think.
    SharonBell
When my shoulder and back hurt real bad I take flexeril and it really makes me sleep good.
    RunningMan
I've never taken gabapentin. Some people say it reduces tinnitus a little but then will stop working for that. There are discussions about it in the TinnitusTalk forum from people that are familiar with it first hand.
How can we turn off the sound? Is there a switch?
    SarahMLFlemmer
I wish. Hang in there. ❤️
    Juliane
I actually think there is a switch in the brain that would turn it completely off. I think that is where a potential cure lies
    Juliane
I hope it will happen in our life time. Even if Im 60 when it happens it will be a blessing
It's wild to think my brain malfunctioned and caused a sound in my head.

    Our bodies are, unfortunately, fragile.
Compare yourself from maybe 10 years ago.
One would think nothing will happen to you, that you will keep the health you had that time for 50 years.
Sadly, I had the same belief that I would grow old, with the same bad vision I had but super sharp hearing.
Now I got my right ear busted.
    Never imagined this would happen...

It is a terrible experience with many emotional ups and downs that affect us mentally. I am going through the worst days right now, and I have had a lot of bad days. Hang in there
What Anxiety medicine is preferred for Tinnitus and bedtime?
    Supersix
    @RunningMan
I have a script for Lorazepam 0.5.I rarely use them and take a half when I do. I only used it at night before bed if I was having a rough day to calm me down,
I am looking forward to trying the Trazadone tonight.
    L along the way
I take diazepam every night. Heck... in the past i was hesitant to take any sort of pharms.. but i've had so many sleepless nights.. the diazepam really helps me sleep so I'm choosing that one definitely for now.. hopefully with enough sleeping & resting the t will get better & won't need meds anymore
    RunningMan
That's good that you can get calmed down on half (0.25 mg) Lorazepam. I take the full 0.5 mg every third morning, and I'm not sure the anxiety is any better those mornings. It supposedly takes twice as much Lorazepam to equal Xanax potency. I take a z drug (zolpidem) overnight about every night, so that might make me more tolerant of the benzo.
"What are your recommendations for treating anxiety?
    Supersix
@GG_Ear I love gaming and have been using an Xbox for years. I used headsets for three years but decided to take a break from them. I never had the volume too high. Regardless of age, once a gamer, always a gamer. These streamers will continue gaming well into their 70s.
    L along the way
I had some ayahuasca sessions in the past.. they really helped me to delve into underlying issues i was having... but in general.. kratom really helps me to feel less anxious and more at ease & of course living healthy lifestyle (plant based works best for me), healthy living, working on myself, meditation, but also gaming is nice distraction sometimes for me..

I eat a clean, low-sodium diet and weigh 163lbs. Despite trying everything, I'm still figuring out how to get better days. I backed off vitamins a year ago. Maybe I should try them again; tinnitus makes you think the air you breathe spikes it.
Experiencing these horrible spikes is scary. Enduring four in a row is tough mentally. You suffer for days, and anxiety is off the charts.
Who Takes Melatonin every night, and is it effective?
    Supersix
I have realized that I need to address my anxiety problem, as it is off the charts when I go to sleep and causes me significant concern about waking up to loud noise. I must receive advice on the correct medication and other practical solutions to this issue. I would appreciate any help or guidance. Thank you
    RunningMan
Melatonin doesn't do anything for me. I've tried various doses - no effect on sleep, dreams, tinnitus the best I can tell. No luck with any supplements for that matter. I fall asleep ok most nights and use <2mg zolpidem sublingual to get back to sleep overnight most nights.
    SharonBell
Melatonin doesn't help me very much. I have taken 5 mg. I would probably have to take 10 for it to help.
Eight years, and my T is getting worse. Fucking Bummer. I'm only 58. How does one live with this shit for 30 years?
    B
Good question. I've had it since I was 18 and I'm now 35. I'm afraid what my tinnitus will be like in 20 years (it has gotten worse since the onset). For now, I try my best to habituate and hope for better days.
    SarahMLFlemmer
    Man. I'm so sorry guys.
T T go away,I want to wake up with no noise one day.I had a vicious cycle for the past two days.Slept for two hours on Friday.BRUTAL.
    SarahMLFlemmer
This makes us insane. It's not normal to hear a noise in your head literally 24/7. I'm so sorry.

I've been struggling lately and attending therapy sessions but I haven't seen any improvement. I'm trying to avoid taking medication, so I have an appointment with my ENT tomorrow morning. My tinnitus has badly spiked due to my ET, so I'm considering balloon dilation as a possible treatment option.
A sleeping pill won't work for me. My ringing at night is too deep. I would wake up. I do have Lorazepam Script. I'm hesitant to use them.
Good morning, T suffers. Today is a bad day. I'm going to listen to rain noise all day. It works best for me.
For anyone with ETD Tinnitus,I urge you to take a 10MG Sudifed, or if you have Rihinits with contestant nasal congestion with a running nose
    Supersix
I received a second opinion from an ear, nose, and throat specialist with extensive Sleep Apnea and Tinnitus knowledge. He graduated from Stanford and UC Davis and is reviewing my medical records. His initial recommendation was to take Sudafed and avoid using other nasal sprays.
    Supersix
I told him that I experience a runny nose whenever I eat and sometimes wake up with moisture in my ear, which increases my tinnitus. He advised me to take a Sudafed before going to bed. I also informed him that using Flonase and other sprays worsened my condition, and he suggested that I discontinue using nasal sprays and started naming chemicals in the mists that could make it worse for me.
    Supersix
Hopefully, this post can be helpful to someone out there.
This shit gets old. It is imperative to stay active. You will drive yourself up the wall sitting at home listening to this BS all day.
    Mo8409
Give it time. Practice watching TV with it, practice doing normal things. It's annoying sure but it will get easier the more you do it. You got this.
    SarahMLFlemmer
It does get old, and exhausting. Heartbreaking. Depressing.
Has anyone on the forum had the balloon dilation procedure done on your Eustachian Tube?
    SarahMLFlemmer
Not me. =) Sorry, I'm no help.
    GG_Ear
Hey @Supersix, I just got diagnosed with a dysfunctional eustachian tube (it's not opening or closing properly at the right times etc.) ..... have you ever had any surgical interventions?
    Supersix
@GG_Ear I just returned from an appointment with my ENT where we discussed various treatment plans to improve my situation.

Can you perform the Valsalva maneuver to open your eardrum?
Regrettably, the number of good days is limited, but on occasion, a few can be found scattered throughout.
    Supersix
It can be discouraging when hope proves unfounded, but witnessing two positive days in a row is uplifting. If we persist with this momentum, we can discover a resolution that will carry us through five days.
For the first time in a while, my brain shut down completely last night, providing me with an amazing night of rest.No ringing/hissing.Rare
Airbag deployment can sometimes lead to tinnitus. Consider using earplugs while driving as a precaution.
    RunningMan
I wear earplugs while driving to reduce the loud road/car noise - more important. I already have tinnitus.
    Supersix
My concern is that if an airbag deployed near my ear with T, it could make the situation worse.
Is anyone afraid of getting water in their ears because they fear it could cause pain or discomfort and a spike in Tinnitus?
    Ngo13
    Yes
    Supersix
When showering, I attempt to prevent water from entering my ear, but occasionally a small amount may seep in. However, I have observed that this can actually aid in the removal of earwax as it loosens and drains out. Therefore, I do not make a conscious effort to keep my ears entirely dry.
    ZFire
I used to, but ultimately laughed it off. Getting water inside your ear is a natural part of life.
