  • It kinda seems like over kill I have to wear leg compression stockings for 1 week after a 60 min surgery with a small wound..
    Bill Bauer
On long flights you can always get up once every half an hour and walk around and do squats. I think that if you do that, you don't need any special gear.
    Holly1987
Do you think you will fly again now you have t @Bill Bauer ?
    Bill Bauer
I began flying a little over a year after the onset. The longest flight I've been on over the past year was 16 hours long. If one doesn't go on turboprop planes (the ones with a propeller), and wears noise-cancelling headphones (with earplugs underneath), it ought to be ok. Airbus planes are especially quiet (unlike Boeing planes).
I was given some strong post op painkillers and I'm high as a kite. It's not very pleasant, I feel so wired. I don't like this feeling...
    Holly1987
Won't be taking them anymore I think.
    Holly1987
Maybe I'll save them for when I feel like a wild night at home, get high on painkillers and dance to Billy Joel. Idk.. I'll think about it.
    Contrast
make sure they aren't ototoxic pain killers.
Home after a holiday and a surgery. Wish I could say I cared less about my T whilst away, truth is I was more neurotic than ever.
    SugarMagnolia
@Holly1987 Did you have anesthesia for your surgery? Did it effect your T? I'm having anesthesia on Thursday. It should be for a very short time. I'm hoping for the best.
    Holly1987
@SugarMagnolia I did and it actually made my T go away for around 3hrs after, it was crazy. After that it went back to baseline, no spike. Good luck x (I'll tag you in my post about it)
    SugarMagnolia
Thanks Holly. I actually asked the doctor if I could have the procedure awake but he said it would be too painful. I'm glad it shouldn't affect my T. But I'm still scared because I don't like to be unconscious. I'll let you know how it goes.
I'm in Sydney, it's such a vibrant place. We are from a small town and not used to peak hour city driving, it was full on!
    Bill Bauer
[This is unfortunate, as lanes end all of the time, so if you don't pay attention and just drive straight, you will eventually find yourself driving in the lane reserved for the traffic going in the opposite direction.]
    Bill Bauer
To change into another lane, you have to steer into the path of drivers in that lane, forcing them to slam on their breaks to avoid a collision.

Drivers pass you on your left, as you are making a left turn (causing you to slam on your breaks).

I remember screaming literally in utter terror and horror once every minute or so.
    Bill Bauer
Some drivers stop in the middle of the road and chat with pedestrians. These conversations normally take 2-5 minutes (a little longer than waiting for a traffic light to change, but it feels like an eternity as everyone who is stuck behind them is honking their car horn).
Over the last year I have discovered weight loss is 90% diet 10% exercise.
    linearb
I agree, but it's a really important 10% because it determines the degree to which lost fat is replaced with muscle vs just flabby skin. But, yes, very crudely, weight is just a calorie game, and if your calorie input is less than what you're burning, you lose weight.

My metabolism is insane, though, I can barely gain weight if I try...
    Manny
Over the last year I have discovered my new weight gain is 90% tinnitus, 10% just food :////
    Bill Bauer
Same here, Manny. I got my BMI down to 22.5 and was able to keep it there for years. Once I got T, my weight began to increase and now I am struggling to get back to BMI that is optimal for me - at most 23...
I wish Dr Nagler would make a comeback, I have found his contribution to this forum very helpful.
    Michael Leigh
I don't think you will see Dr Nagler at this forum again, not after reading some of the comments he made about TT that I will not mention.
    Michael
    linearb
I think he was extremely divisive, condescending, and that his compassion and good advice was at odds with his basically 1970s understanding of tinnitus which he refused to update.
    Holly1987
Oh wow I missed all that drama.
I'm struggling on this trip, the familiar masking noises from home are gone (the crazy old noisy fridge) it's hard adjusting to a new place.
    Holly1987
The place we are staying is super quiet and my tinnitus sounds 100 times louder. Perhaps the anxiety of travel made it louder too...
    Holly1987
V nice shower here tho, it's like the size of our whole bathroom at home lol.
I will never understand businesses that don't get back to you/ have crap customer service.
    Holly1987
    (Massive first world problem)
    Holly1987
I wish I knew how style hair myself..
    Bill Bauer
    > (Massive first world problem)
Well, yes, being transformed from first world to third world (and you had described one sign of that) is unique to the "first world." The guiltier people like you feel, the faster we are becoming a third world country. So don't worry, soon there will be many more problems for us to deal with, and the problem you described won't seem so unusual.
Sometimes I pretend my tinnitus is something else, I think "oh no that's just something outside, your T isn't that loud"
    TheDanishGirl
I tried thinking like that but I can't seem to make it work :/ I can't hear it as anything else then coming from my head. Sometimes though, I will go to audionotch and find my tinnitus tone and then make it a tiny bit more low pitched and then play it as a masker......somehow "taking the noise out of my head" and playing it from a device helps.
    Holly1987
    That's such a good idea!
    hurtingdream
I go outside and pretend it's a bird making the high pitch sound. Sometimes it helps. Winter time don't help because you're stuck indoors.
Even if I didn't have tinnitus I couldn't think of a worse way to start the new year than fireworks and crowds.
    Holly1987
And maybe reflect on the past year and quietly sob.
    Holly1987
This was a really awful year to be honest, I felt deep unhappiness for a lot of it. I hope next year is better.
    OnceUponaTime
It was an awful year for me too. Glad is over. Praying 2019 will be better for all of us.
I don't know why it's so confronting for people to hear I'm choosing to be childfree because I don't think this planet needs anymore people.
    TheDanishGirl
That's so true. I don't want to have children mainly because Like you I feel I would be a bad mother because of this condition and mental problems, but I also think I am doing the world a favour because the planet is way over populated, but people just don't understand these reasons for not having children.....
    Red
When it comes to children, for most people, self awareness concerning the subject is curiously switched off.
    SugarMagnolia
I also chose to be childfree and I have never regretted it.
I dunno what it's like where y'all live but property prices in Australia are insane, I'm going to rent till I die.
    Holly1987
Rent is crazy too, $400 a week for a tiny 1 bedroom apartment in a mediocre suburb.
    New Guy
The housing bubble 'burst' here in the US around 2010 but it's still tough to afford your first house. There were some government programs with tax incentives, and possibly lower mortgage rates, to try and stimulate the economy.
    Red
    Lol. For millennials? Nothing.
Spikes are the bane of my existence. You can do everything right and they still happen. Sooooo frustrating.
    just1morething
Sorry to hear. Health problems are really frustrating.
    InfiniteLoop
Randomness is a big component of T (at least of mine). It goes up and down for a myriad of logical and illogical reasons (mostly illogical ones).
Eye floaters are soooooooo annoying, I have 4 new ones. I keep telling myself "at least you're not blind" still sucks though..
    TheDanishGirl
Sure does! I have about 10 of them in total. I want to have surgery to remove them someday.
    TheDanishGirl
I am suicidal over the floaters sometimes, so the doctor's better be able to remove them :(
    Spiral
Treatments exist but they are very expensive and not all are treatable unless you drain all of the eye fluid and replace. I've had them since I was very young and have learned to live with them for the most part.
The bear attack in the revenant is crazyyy. V good movie.
    Dylan Blake
"THIS IS INSANE, I CAN'T LIFT 3 TIMES MY OWN BODY WEIGHT WHY DO I LIVE IN A NEST!?" sorry I miss read that I thought it said The Raving Ant.
I wonder if you can go to the "mums and bubs" sessions at the movies if you are childless, would that be weird? It's half the volume.
Decided to cut my long hair semi short to avoid long blowdrying sessions. I underestimated how vain I am, I miss my hair :(
    Jazzer
I miss your lovely hair too Holly,
but now we can't see it anyway, now you've changed your avatar.
(photos are so much more personal - IMNSHO !)
    Michael Leigh
@Jazzer That picture previously on @Holly1987 avatar was not her. You're not vain at all Holly, as it's said a woman's beauty is in her hair....
    Holly1987
Yes that wasn't me Jazzer! I did a post about it, it was my favourite character from a TV show. Sorry for the confusion.
It's so awkward when you're trying to overtake someone on the path and suddenly you are next to them and you have to pick up the pace.
    Holly1987
And then you realise they are quicker than you thought and you're not sure you will make it.
    Holly1987
    It's v stressful
Is it ok to use a hairdryer with earplugs a few times a week ? I'm paranoid it's making it worse.
    Apolonia
I Always wear earplugs with my hairdryer...
Does anyone else feel sorry for Susan Shores guinea pig?
    threefirefour
I do it looks very sad. Of course it's leading to a treatment so I'm not complaining too much.
    Holly1987
Poor little thing, he should be the mascot for this group. A true hero.
    Dylan Blake
@threefirefour: They always look like that, take bloodhounds and bassets, they always look sad, still I wouldn't want to be on the RD team to have put Tinnitus on that Guinea pig.

@Holly1987: Agreed, is there away to do that?
