2020 US Presidential Election

I've been watching a few more left leaning videos.

Gov Whitmer comes across really well. She's the one who they tried to kidnap. Much more likeable than Harris for sure. I don't know much about her policies, but the Dems should be molding people like her for the future.

Watched The View. Got to say, I find Whoopi Goldberg pretty laughable and on some type of crusade that is backed up by little substance. She just rants.

Where are the bible quotes for this one? They don't exist because the bible is a book of fiction used as a bludgeon for self-centered behavior.
I just love reading 19th-20th century literature criticizing religious and new age claims. WikiQuote is where I go to find them btw.

As far as I know, The View is not taken serious by virtually anyone.

It's a weird holiday. Columbus didn't discover America, there were people already living here. He just started the European colonization of it.
The Clovis and the Pre-Clovis peoples and then the Vikings.

But it all depends on how one decides to define "discovered America".

Columbus is the one most people are taught about.

Mark Twain thought that Robert G. Ingersoll was one of the greatest men that ever lived.

I'm not religious either but I like to think I am objective. Lilah isn't wrong. Her example on Europe is accurate, you can criticise Christianity there, mock it or replace it but you can't do that with Islam or the Jewish religion. No one wants to talk about that hypocrisy.

That's as close as we're going to get to agreeing. Where I would disagree with you is I do not see the "hatred" of Trump as coming from no where. I encourage you to follow his campaign from its inception. It was always about division, stereotyping minorities, ignorance, and pissing people off. Most of the hate towards him is a reaction. And yes, occasionally he will do something okay and people won't see it because of how angry they are. I place this blame on him, not the others. I think it's fair to say, even if one thinks Obama was an awful president, he very clearly was not trying to divide.
Sure he did. He would deliver one speech for the general public and quite different rhetoric for a black audience. The MSM avoided covering that. You need to do more research.

Oh wait, you're not reading my posts. Oh well.

Ireland.

Greece and Italy are religious, but not really considered Western Europe.

There are plenty of Christians in Western Europe, but the figures seem to be dwindling year by year.
True. Also, the 'leaders' or whatever you call them of the Christian religions are taking a more direct involvement in politics. All of them cling to the Left. They embraced the refugee crisis lie in Europe, for example.

True, in America this isn't a problem as Islam takes hits all the time. Some neoleftist cry like babies about it but it doesn't help when some leftist themselves are critiques of the faith. Hanging gays and treating women like property do not sit well with the left obviously.

Yeah, people get called out as being racist or xenophobic if they criticise Isam in particular. Just not PC to do it.

It's worth noting that Islam itself isn't responsible for this it's the rise of Wahhabism and the influence of house of Saud/Saudi Arabia on neighboring countries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabism

Even those who don't practice Wahhabism were trying to at least match its fundamentalism to be seen as more devout.

Islam had been practiced much less conservatively up to that point in modern times (and could be again eventually since most young people support less rigid practice).

To be fair, though, Iranian leftists *did* support the 1979 Revolution which made no sense since the Ayatollah clearly was not going to support a leftist platform. Obviously a huge mistake.

But all Islam is not Wahhabism, just like all Christianity is not the Westboro Baptist Church.

Democrats have not done much to prevent gays from hanging/thrown off buildings in Muslim countries. Also, they have not really helped the oppressed women in those countries. It's all talk. Why is that? Because they don't want to insult Islam.

Donald Trump has done more to stop gays from being put to death around the world, than any Democrat.

Watch the video here, from Ric Grennell.

One major reason they don't want to insult Islam is because the US sells a lot of arms to the likes of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt. Very big business. And then there's the oil. At the same time, though, the US will almost certainly have had a hand in the Arab Spring to get more leverage in the region.

Talking about being pro gay, Trump enters stage and dances to YMCA :p Although I sometimes wonder if he knows the connotations.

He certainly would have known, as he was always in Studio 54 and other nightspots, back in the day enough to be accepting of everything. He's a New Yorker, nothing shocks or upsets us.

At least for your first link, that was for the year 2011-2012 only and was reportedly just a clerical error.

As an aside, I'm not Catholic but I like the new pope quite a bit.
The pope, ANY pope, is the enemy of humanity. The same is true of all clergy, they are charlatans and frauds. It is difficult, when you think this way, to find a way to live in a world that is infested with this mental illness called religion. The Democrat however, regardless of religious belief or lack of it, are currently worse than mainstream Republican voters, many of whom are more religious than Dems. I prefer the Trump camp over the Democrats, even though I have no affiliation with religion or belief in the supernatural.

Might pop in on occasion, but mostly stepping away from this thread as it's been getting me too heated IRL. Have fun, everyone. And vote.

In the US the Republicans (conservatives) are nowadays considered red and the Democrats (socialists) are considered blue. In the UK, it's the complete opposite: the Conservatives are blue and Labour (socialists) are red. I've always identified socialists with red: USSR, China and so on.

"The modern association of colors in American politics lies contrary to the long-standing conventions of political color in most other countries whereby red symbols (such as the red flag or red star) are associated with left-wing politics and right-wing movements often choose blue as a contrasting color.[11] Indeed, until the 1980s, Democrats were often represented by red and Republicans by blue.[1] According to The Washington Post, journalist Tim Russert coined these terms during his televised coverage of the 2000 presidential election.[12] That was not the first election during which the news media used colored maps to depict voter preferences in the various states, but it was the first time a standard color scheme took hold; the colors were often reversed or different colors used before the 1996 election."

I've been evaluating different ways to implement UBI, especially considering the need of it during a time like this.

I'm in favor of Andrew Yang's approach. A 10% VAT is half the European level. The VAT could make UBI even more progressive by excluding consumer staples. Progressive marginal income tax brackets would still hold. The Freedom Dividend itself would not be subject to tax. However, you can get pushed into a higher tax bracket.

@Born To Slay, below is a detailed example I came across of Yang's implementation in regard to income tax levels.

Majority of Democrats are unhinged nutjobs:

I hope Shahid Buttar replaces her in CA-12. Shahid is running as a democratic socialist and has great vision. It's wishful thinking, considering the fiscal and political backing Speaker Pelosi has.

People are hurting, and $1,200 > $0 — not to mention the provision of an additional $400/week in unemployment benefits. There's a shot at a Democrat-controlled Congress in the near future, and Trump is down big in polls. Take the deal and increase it once Trump is out of the picture. Otherwise, people will likely have to wait until February.

Andrew Yang has been highly critical of Speaker Pelosi not accepting the current stimulus proposal. Christine Pelosi, Speaker Pelosi's daughter, had the following to say regarding Yang's criticism, which is clearly a ploy to divert attention away from Speaker Pelosi's stubbornness to put the American people first. Who hasn't referred to a politician by either their first or last name at one point or another? Politics will always be politics.

Having looked at the chart, I have several questions.

1) The FD is "not taxed", but in a sense, it kind of is. It takes up the first $12,000 of income (and is not taxed), but then all of your earned income gets pushed up into higher brackets. Hence, to truly not be taxed, it should be just Disposal income + $12,000, but it's slightly less. What is the purpose of pushing people into higher tax brackets? Seems like a lot of hassle for what ultimately is a really small effective tax on UBI.

2) Does the UBI really increase spending power if it's given to everyone? Don't we have to worry about inflation? I realize $12,000 will help me more than Jeff Bezos, but why does he get it as well?

I think parts of the UBI are a good idea. For one, I have learned recently that there are a lot of people in disability limbo. They are either denied disability, waiting on an application to process, or between jobs. The UBI is an easy way to fill in the gaps so people feel less pressure.

But I worry a lot about inflation.

So, to summarize, you are saying that you didn't understand my point at all?
