Hey guys!

It's 2020 and with the Iowa caucuses less than a month away, I figured it might be interesting to make a thread talking about our opinions and the state of the race.

To summarize, Biden and Sanders seem to be doing the best. Biden leads nationally, as well as early states like Nevada and South Carolina while Sanders leads Iowa and New Hampshire. (Note: I support Sanders).

America is hell-bent on attacking Iran and the impeachment was political theater to make the democrats look insane so that when Trump attacks Iran, which will be a real shit-kicker of a war, the anti-war democrats will look stupid.
I really hope I'm wrong.

It might be interesting to see how many report their tinnitus has spiked from reading these opinions. Especially after the fireworks start between pro- and anti-Trump factions. Could be a real stress inducer for those who find it difficult to take a step back when it comes to discussions on politics. I suppose it could be great entertainment for others however.

FWIW, I'm rooting for Elizabeth Warren for the Democratic nomination. I like her stance(s) on consumer protections to protect everyday people from dominant, often corrupt Corporations. She's been advocating for these kinds of protections for decades, and it seems to be in her DNA. -- I'm resigning myself the idea however that Biden will likely get the nomination--the guy Trump seems to fear most.

I'm sure this is oversimplifying a bit here, but it seems like conservatives tend to value the idea of "justice" above all and liberals value the idea of "compassion" above all. Both sides think both ideals are important but I think framing arguments with the other side's key value in mind makes middle grounds and understanding easier.

Tl;dr: if this is going to turn into a debate, at least try to understand the other side reasoning (if if it's wrong in your eyes) so it's productive.

Edit: just to be clear, I'm talking about the general public here. Most politicians unfortunately don't actually care about very many ideals.

If it matters, I support Sanders.

I think it'll be interesting to see how Joe fares thru the impeachment trial tbh. The republicans in the senate are sure to make a ton of this about him and his possible corruption.

Also about the tinnitus spike thing, politics is actually one of my hobbies and I love talking about politics since it's a nice distraction from my hyperacusis.

I don't know if it was that planned out by the democrats but I agree the US is intent on doing this and it'll be interesting to see if we actually go to war this time. Honestly, I think Iran knows the US wants to go over and kick the crap out of it and is gonna behave in such a way that the us will look as bad as possible for doing such.

What ear pro does the president get? Seems to spend a lot of time getting in and out of helicopters and planes, speaking to cheering crowds etc.

I support Sanders foremost and then probably Warren. If it comes down to it I'll vote for Biden if he gets the democratic nomination, which I'm sure he will but his views are too moderate and in favor of big money for my taste.

I would have to disagree on the premise. The difference is that conservatives tend to believe that charity should not be coerced through an inefficient government but through private charity. Conservatives also tend to donate more to charity, but at the same time tend to reside in lower taxed areas. Liberals tend to favor a coercive form of charity through government force, while pushing for higher taxes and ironically taking for themselves as many deductions as possible. I think both can work in different circumstances. America is much too large to live under one set of rules for 330 million people (which is why we care so much who is president and who is on the supreme court...our founders would not have wanted us to care so much for they should not be able to affect our daily lives to the extent that they do). Denmark on the other hand are more likely to have much more homogeneous beliefs (given their smaller size) that make more government involvement practical and palatable.

Sanders isn't my dude, but racist? LOL. c'mon.
'When you're white ... you don't know what it's like to be poor'

That is racist and stupid.

If someone said, "When you're Jewish, you don't know what it's like to be poor" how would that go down?

I'm sorry, but Sanders is a loser and I don't understand why people like him at all.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure he misspoke on that occasion. Sanders has gone to many of the poorest counties in America and held events there, often these counties are predominantly white. Furthermore, Sanders is from one of the whitest states in America.
Also Sanders has worked in the private sector before his decades in the public one.

If Bernie Sanders wants to pay for healthcare for every human that can run across the Mexican border then let him and all of you that support him pay for it and let me opt out. Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala need to get their shit straight and stop dumping all of their poor people on us. Why can't they give their own people social services? Also, if they are so poor then why are they having so many babies that they can't support? I have ONE child and my wife and I support him 100%. We cannot solve the problems of the third world by just letting all of them come here.

In reality, every adult illegal immigrant needs to be put on a bus and taken back to their home country. No ifs ands or buts.

Also, this happens:

A man and his pregnant wife come here illegally. The wife gives birth to an American citizen. Because that child is legal, he is eligible for food, health care, child care, and housing welfare. Their marriage is not on the books so the woman gets to file as a single parent with a dependent, or multiple dependents and the husband gets to still live in the same house. The husband can work and get paid under the table, essentially paying zero income taxes while getting social services for his family. At the end of the month, many of these spongers are doing better than my wife and I, that pay taxes, pay out of pocket for pre-school, and pay for all of our food, and housing, and if we have more children, we don't get more welfare, because we don't get any. How is that fair? On top of all of that, the leftists call me a fucking racist for simply opposing illegal immigration when my problem is the money side of it. It's just not fair.

Basically there is no democracy and voting is stupid. The elite are going to do whatever they want. Trump ran on an anti-war platform and now look. Politicians lie. All of this socialism is about control, that's what the elite want and they will get it.

If they can get our rifles they will do exactly what they want like in Stalin's Russia. Don't agree? History is firmly on my side.
