2024 US Presidential Election

Best of luck to the Trump administration. Let's pull together and thrive. I'm an optimist and have high hopes.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, my tinnitus friends!
An Administration swamp that's going to be filled with billionaires. There's nothing optimistic about that, honestly. Lots of harm is going to be done, all in the pursuit of profits.

Happy holidays, though.

Electing a Speaker of the House seems to be the first challenge.

How would you rate Johnson's chances of remaining speaker, @Luman?
Thanks for asking, but I have no idea. My wife, who is far more knowledgeable of current political situations, is not sure but thinks his chances are probably not good because he was working with the Democrats on that bill. Another problem is that they put the vote out and only had a few hours to read a 1500-page document.

Here's a good take on it from Congressman Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), "The problem with replacing Mike Johnson is that you've got to find somebody in his right mind who wants to take that job, and anybody who wants it obviously isn't in his right mind."

Dearest @ZFire,

I'm aware of the billionaire club on both sides. I'm just a guy with tinnitus, trying my best to provide for my family, be a good role model, and show kindness to others.

Lately, I've retreated into my art and am working towards an exhibition. I'll try to capture some good photos along the way.

I'm disillusioned by perpetual wars, QAnon cultists, woke extremists, corporate greed, and those who refuse to educate or better themselves. I've pretty much stepped away from the chaos and am staying out of the crossfire. Nuclear war always seems to be lurking; Musk has his sights on China, and Trump wants out.

I keep a close eye on geopolitics and have my own opinions and leanings. Humans seem to love conflict—it's profitable, after all.

For now, I'm out.

Love as always to you, @grate_biff, and all my friends here.

You believed Trump when he said that. But illegals are not entitled to Social Security or Medicare, and they can't vote.
To your point, they collectively contribute to the Social Security system, Medicare, and billions of dollars in taxes. In doing so, they help sustain Social Security, Medicare, and the country's overall financial stability.
Undocumented immigrants paid nearly $26 billion into Social Security coffers in a single year, a new report has found. New analysis by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) found that undocumented residents paid £25.7 billion into Social Security funds and $6 billion into Medicare in 2022; both programs that they are not entitled to use. In total, undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion, or roughly $9,000 per person, in taxes in 2022.
(Undocumented Immigrants' Payments Into Social Security Detailed in Report)

Sure, undocumented immigrants also use services such as schools, public transport, etc, but they are critical to the economy and have been for many years.

Merry Christmas won in a landslide 🇺🇸

Is this really such a divisive topic in the United States? I'm not sure what the rest of Europe is like, but over here, the terms are pretty interchangeable.

I feel most people say Happy Holidays, though, but mainly because it's kind of a catch-all for both Christmas and New Year's.

At least with the Democrats, you don't have to worry about them dismantling Social Security and Medicare or turning them into a profit-making machine for the rich and powerful.

Meanwhile, Trump is already saying how he wants to privatize the US Postal Services.

It's just Christian nationals just trying to impose their extremism onto everybody. We are already seeing it in Texas, where they approved bible based teachings/curriculum at schools. Thanks to Trump and his ilk, these people have been emboldened.

True Christians who practice the teachings of Jesus understand the value of the separation of church and State. I'm no Christian, but I would vote for James Talarico in a heartbeat. That's a real Christian right there.

And just so you know, that Congressional map you're responding to is totally misleading. Most of that red is coming from counties and districts with tiny populations. Just look at South Dakota; it only has about 900k people.
