Thank you @OnceUponaTime. Sorry to know that you are unable to have a cat but it's good that you have a mini-schnauzer and chinchilla. Adorable as both my cats are and thanks again. There is another and more sinister side to their nature that is not seen in the picture. They are formidable hunters and have started bringing me presents early mornings much to my dislike. A small bird or mouse, caught from outside and brought into the home. They work together and terrorise the poor creatures until their demise.

I tried fitting a cat collar with bell to alert birds and mice of their presence. However, the cats are smart and within a short time manage to remove the collar, so I've given up.

Well done Elmer, for rescuing your cat and giving it a good home. I cannot understand the reasons some people treat animals in the way you describe. I wasn't aware Tuxedoes are smarter than most breeds, something I will have to watch out for. I also went through a selection of different foods as they are very fussy. Polly refuses to eat wet food and will only eat dry food from one particular brand. The vet said that's okay as long as she drinks enough water. Alfie prefers wet food and has a ravenous appetite which I try not to give into.

See, you realize Michael they already have you wrapped around their little paws. Ours is the same, €8.00 euro for a small bag of dry food, nothing else will she touch, wet food most expensive, oh and Whiskas, cat milk, addicted.

The routine of cats if you watch is always at the same time, wake me up at 6:30 every morning for food and let me out to do my morning poo and water the dirt pile, plus I gotta make sure there's no mice hiding in the tall grass. 2 hours later she's sitting in the kitchen window wanting in, for dry food.

Amazing creatures but it's like they say, 9000 years of trying to domesticate us humans.

I used to have kitty cats when I was a young girl living in Puerto Rico. But I do not remember them having the run of the house. They enjoyed just being outside catching lizards or sleeping under the coconut trees! haha.

Well as cats certainly can be "fun," we had a vet appointment to have Groucho's teeth cleaned. She is only a year and a half old, so what happened is very rare in cats her age. She developed gingivitis where the gums got very red and sore, so with steroids and antibiotics it cleared up but for 2 weeks at the most. So an appointment was made, yesterday. The vet started the cleaning procedure only to discover that she had 8 teeth with cavities so they pulled them. Still having effects from being put under for the procedure. Poor girl was all mixed up. Hungry because of having to fast her, she couldn't eat, so we gave her cat milk, with pain killer med, all night she was all over the house, counter tops, kitchen sink, knocking things about. Now this morning, wound up to normal behaviour, gave her a bit of food all mashed up, added the pain killer and she ate every bit.

The price for vet work, 164.00 euros. But we don't care about costs, it's the responsibility we took on. Hell she's our kid.

Thanks @Michael Leigh. Unfortunately there's no cure for gingivitis. We have had her back to the vet 3 weeks ago because her gums were bright red again which shows the darn gingivitis was back. A shot of antibiotics and it goes dormant for a month or so.

One of my cat's Alfie, has recently found a new way of getting my attention should I happen to be listening to music around his meal time and made the ghastly mistake of forgetting to prepare his food. He strolls quietly into my listening room and moves towards one of my ProAc speakers. A Tablette Reference 8 Signature. With deftly precision he launches himself up and sits on top of the cabinet and gazes at me, his paws dangerously close to the tweeter. If he damages it a replacement tweeter requires the entire speaker box to be returned to ProAc which is a route I don't wish to go down.

I get the message and quickly compose myself and exit the room with Alfie eagerly following. He has already put a dent in my midrange/bass driver on my other ProAc speaker, D28. It is a much larger floor standing cabinet in another room. Fortunately, I was able to pull out the dent using the suction hose on a vacuum cleaner. I now keep the speaker grills on most of the time.

Indeed you did tell me Tuxedo cats are very smart Elmer, something I wasn't previously aware of. It is mentioned quite a lot on the Internet. I will have to keep a close eye on Alfie. Polly, my tortoiseshell is quite smart too. She has the annoying habit of investigating everything. Will pull open any drawer to see what's inside and opens kitchen cupboard doors regularly.

Polly and Alfie.

My 15 year old cat died in October last year. I got Polly and Alfie from a cat shelter in June this year. They are brother and sister, 18 months old. Polly on the left is a Tortoiseshell. They have taken a liking to my Parker knoll sofa, which I use when listening to music on my HI-FI, that is when they are not occupying it. Due to the amount of fur they leave behind, I now have a small blanket covering the seats most of the time.

They are gorgeous cats Micheal and have a lovely home.
