Chit Chat and All That...

@Rjbookworm I found some great books at my local Dollar Trees:rockingbanana: and I totally thought of you!

View attachment 41090

The book on the bottom right "Orphan Monster Spy". A holocaust book and I had totally forgotten I had wanted to read!!! Not sure if it's too dark for you? But it sounds so badass. :X3:
Thank you for thinking of me! :huganimation: I've had a rough week and I just got sad news about one of my second cousins, so that means a lot to me. I'll see if I can read a preview of "Orphan Monster Spy" on GoodReads. I really like the cover of "Gilded Cage" as well.

@Shera and @Rjbookworm

The most powerful holocaust book I've ever read is Maus by Art Spegilman, published in two parts and the first graphic novel to win the Pulitzer Prize.

It shows that those people didn't just recover the second they left those camps. Those mental and emotional wounds lasted a long time afterwards.
My brother read that book when he took a Jewish Studies class in college. He has recommended it to me many times. I should put it on my to-read list on GoodReads. Thanks for the recommendation!

I loved "What the Night Sings" because it focused on the main character Gerta's life after the Holocaust ended. The British soldiers liberate Bergen-Belsen in the first chapter. Gerta and the character who ends up becoming her husband cope with the trauma and the aftermath of the Holocaust in different ways, which was intriguing too.

@Kriszti, I watched a Zoom Shabbat service at my temple tonight and I accidentally forgot to think of your dog when the rabbis sang the prayer for healing. *face palms* I was very focused on thinking about and praying for my second cousin. I'll look up the prayer on YouTube later, sing it again, and think of your dog as I sing. <3

@aot I love a holocaust book that shows the ramifications and after effects as well. I watched the Dr. Ruth documentary on Hulu and hearing what happened to her after was eye opening! I want to see if she mentions it in her books.

Such a beautiful book. Now I'm reading "A Cloud of Outrageous Blue" by Vesper Stamper.
Oooo, a romance set in Great Plague! Oooo, ahhhhh. This one was not on my radar for this year. But I won't lie. I'm a fantasy reader first and foremost.
It's odd that you've met people who believe that the earth is flat. I don't blame you for feeling disillusioned this year.
Trust me I did not think I would meet people who thought that. I didn't realize it was a thing until that moment. For real.
You're welcome! I'm glad that you're feeling a little better. It's good that you're being so patient with the healing process. As for your coconut allergy, at least you know what caused your dry mouth now. I hope that your eyes feel better as well.
We're assuming it's mostly a mild coconut allergy. Treating some other things too. Trust me I am fighting for that patience. *sighs*

I wasn't too bad at the falling asleep part, but let me tell you by the time I finish up Tapping I'm dozing off. It's mainly helped me with staying asleep and not waking up again. Especially waking up and be FULLY AWAKE and unable to fall back asleep. :inpain:*knock on wood* I'm sleeping so good. Never miss a night time tapping for sleep now. It's almost been a full month. I hope it works for you. :huganimation:

Yeah it was a great haul! I actually already have paperbacks of Magic Binds and Frozen Tides, but their both from fave series so a dollar hardback is awesome. Silver Silence was my magic find though! :X3::X3::X3:

Oooo, you should find me on Goodreads!!

They actually had a crappy paperback cover version and that one for Gilded Cage. I think I picked right. ;)

Hopefully you'll like "A Cloud of Outrageous Blue". The main character in that book has synesthesia. I need to read more fantasy outside of the Skulduggery Pleasant books. Lol!

What the Night Sings" has romance too. Vesper Stamper likes to include romance in her historical fiction books. Haha! Fun fact about Vesper, she panic bought chickens at the beginning of covid-19 for food security. I thought that was smart.

Me neither. I thought that everyone thought that the world was round. Just... wow.:rolleyes:

I hope that the coconut allergy is only mild. It had quite the impact on your body which sounded miserable. Props to you for fighting for that patience. You're much stronger than me. I can barely handle tinnitus.

I don't know how my uncle put up with tinnitus and hearing loss due to taking chemo for 13-14 years. He was so tough!

It's great that the tapping helped you stay asleep and not wake up again. I struggle with that as well as falling asleep. It's good that falling asleep wasn't an issue for you and that your sleep has improved during the past month! I'm happy for you. Thanks again for the suggestion! :huganimation:

It's great that you found one dollar hardbacks of Magic Binds, Frozen Tides, and Gilded Cage. Hardbacks are usually expensive!

Do you have a particular username that you use so I can look you up on GoodReads?

Yes, you did pick right. The hardcover of Gilded Cage is beautiful!

I was watching an interview of Ivanka Trump and she brought up that she used to play with Lego. She then went on to say how she puts the different Legos together.

I thought this was incredibly strange, i.e. that she would add an -s to the word Lego to form a plural.
I work in the language field and have never heard Lego becoming Legos. I thought it just must be a Trump thing... until the interviewer also used Legos.

I then read that in the US this is normal, but to a man who speaks proper English, i.e. English from England, the only real English, it sounds really grating and a truly horrible word.

Americans, get your act together:p
Hmmm the real English? That's an open door there. Only because you say Trump added an s to Lego. I believe that if you took time to delve further into the English language you will find that people in America or any other English speaking country, is that they speak excellent English.

Just saying for a friend.

@Shera well here's the new addition to our house, meet Groucho.

Ah, glad your dog is doing better. Even if the cone of shame is no fun.
I'm such a jerk and I want her to be her old self soon, but I cannot not laugh at her when she bumps into things. Of course I cuddle her afterwards.

I'm positively surprised because she behaves so well at the vet and only once managed to tear the cone apart. Such a good girl. :puppykisses:

Thank you all for rooting for her.

@Shera, I forgot to add in my last post that I love how your cat is chilling in your photo of the books. Your cat is so cute!
Ah! Thank you I always have one of my three indoor kitties in those pictures!! The bed is for kitties not human and books! :cat:

That cat is Cinder. (I think I already said that! But just encase.)

Yes, you did. I think I only skimmed the post where you mentioned Cinder's name. My bad!

Sorry if I was too negative in the post where I mentioned my uncle's tinnitus and hearing loss. He was very resilient. Sometimes I struggle with that in regards to my tinnitus and anxiety. Habitation has been really tough.

Out of the books that you bought in hardcover, which titles would you recommend? I'm guessing that "Magic Binds" is part of a series?

Onwards and upwards from here, Kriszti. Your dog is lucky to have you as her owner. You are kind and caring of all others.

No worries. I'm a cat person and I know I can go on.

Oh, I missed your post! Was that here or a different thread? I'll read it. Don't worry! It's okay to express those emotions we can't stay positive and tinnitus gives us negative emotions we need to express. :huganimation:

Ilona Andrews anything is well worth it. Their a husband and wife duo! They are A-mazing! Magic Binds is part of their Kate Daniel's world. It's one of my fave series from them, but I also adore (freaking worship) the Inkeeper Chronicles.

That's all right. Lol! It's great that you're a cat person. :D

My posts were in this thread. It's okay that you missed them. :huganimation:I have one post from Chinmoku that didn't even show up in my alerts. I had to go to the thread of posts to find it. Thank you for understanding and being so validating. :huganimation::love:

I just looked up "Magic Binds". Is it book nine in the Kate Daniels series? I'd need to start with book one when I'm ready to read the series.

Crazy cat person was always my goal! ;)

A lot of the alerts don't show up for me. Even though I made sure it's in my settings and so on. Sometimes I suddenly realized that there were ton of posts that I completely missed and whole conversation going on!

Of course.:huganimation: We go through so much ups and downs with tinnitus.. Chit Chat is to help us be positive and have fun, but also I think to be frank too. I've been plenty negative on here. Especially since I've had one heck of year.

Oh, yes. Magic Binds is the second to last book. The first one is Magic Bites. I honestly didn't fully invest in the series until book 3. Most people do not have that problem. I still haven't read the final one. It was supposed to come out in 2017. I was relieved when it didn't cause I had tinnitus. I wanted to reread the whole series and enjoy that final book, but sadly I can't bring myself to do it. I still can't reach that trance like state that reading submerged me in before my tinnitus got worse.

The original was before my time, (though I vaugely recall seeing the Christmas special when I was a kid.) But the Animanics revivial looks super funny! Can't wait for this.

(I was actually pretty into cartoons and animation before tinnitus knocked my ass flat. I'll have to try to get back into it sometime.)

There's nothing wrong with that.

It's annoying when alerts don't show up. I don't like missing out on posts either.

That's true. We do go through ups and downs with tinnitus. Seeing an audiologist who is also a tinnitus expert on Wednesday helped me. I saw her for a sound therapy checkup. She has tinnitus too and she told me that using a meditation app helps her when her tinnitus gets really loud in her left ear.

It also helped to talk to an expert who can empathize. The audiologist said that doctors who prescribe medication like my former PCP did lack empathy because they don't have tinnitus themselves. She also slowed down the Zen tones in my hearing device. Good appointment overall!

I'm sorry that you've had a heck of a year with other health issues, but you seem so positive in spite of them. Good for you! *high fives you*

Thanks for telling me about "Magic Bites". It's great that you love the series so much. I hope that you can get back into your trance like state with reading. It can be easier to do that with with silence. In my introduction thread, you mentioned that reading was getting easier. I hope that your focus with reading is improving. :huganimation:

You should! Cartoons and animation are fantastic. :D

Omg! Animaniacs. It's my childhood. The trailer for the reboot made me laugh and smile. The scenes with Pinky and the Brain made me smile! Thanks for posting it. :)
