Chit Chat and All That...

Hi @tpj, this painting, especially the third on the right (hell) reminds me of the image that @Damocles posted from a heavy metal band. Heavy metal art work is amazing. Take care ! P.S. Hieronymus Bosch painted this in 1490:

Hey @Daniel Lion. Great artwork and music as well. Hoping that one day I'll be able to listen to it again. You take care too.

Anyone like exploring abandoned places? I stumbled upon an abandoned Motel. Was pretty sweet!

Seems we're into similar things @SamRosemary (except the tomatoes and celery!).

This is cool. There's a place near me called 'the docks'. Former shipbuilding dock which hasn't been used since Thatcher shafted Scotland's industrial industry, yeah, cheers Maggie :beeranimation:

Anyway, it has an interesting abandoned work shed. I have pictures somewhere, I'll try to dig them out.

Haha, nice. I love creepy, abandoned places. If you can find them, post them!

I looked up a negroni. Next time I'm out I'll have to ask for one :) I'm okay with rolling home.

That one is at Prado Museum in Madrid. It's one of my favourite paintings.

On a different note, Bartolomé Bermejo paintings (different style) are remarkable too, and he's not so well known.

Bermejo painted religious themes on commission. Painters had to earn a living and the Church was a big client.

Yeah, me too, you don't really appreciate the scale of this place until you're walking around it. Here's one photo from walking about...

Someone up there likes me -- sort of maybe.

A beautiful sunny afternoon I was taking my usual stroll into town -- all kitted out in my usual armour: A facemask in my pocket in case this nasty COVID-19 virus comes along again and a pair of hearing protectors Peltor Optime 1 -- I carry them usually on my arm mostly and when a 750 cc motorcycle appears I put them on as soon as poss. I had been caught out badly one day back by such a motorcycle -- the Motor-test guy must be profoundly deaf in this one-horse town. He lets them all through.

I got the Peltor Optime I for €17 a while back -- it's good for high frequency sounds on a bus for example if a child starts crying and shrieking it's one small movement to put them on and the world is not half as bad. Good too for the high frequency brakes on a bus or truck -- but very often I'm too slow to get them on and I take a bit of a hit.

What really disturbs me are the low frequency ones, like motorbikes... and the Optime I type is not so good with them.

Well walking into town on a quiet side-street I saw all alone on the pavement -- a pair of heavy duty earmuffs. Absolutely no one around. As a good citizen I decided to safeguard them in case they might be stolen and to return them to the owner should I meet him.

This was the the same make -- Peltor, but Optime III -- heavy duty ones, maybe for the guy who works a pneumatic drill. And yes they work well for the lower frequencies too. It gives me a great feeling of empowerment that when a string of these dudes ride by in a roar of low frequency decibels, I can handle it no bother if I get the earmuffs on in time. They are kind of, ummm... big... but they certainly do the job.

Whether I should be trying to accustom myself to all the traffic noise or whether I should use them judiciously, well that's the question. It might depend on the patient in the end. There's tinnitus and tinnitus. I guess.

A genuine sincere well done and appreciation for those of you who have donated, there were a fair few and you let it be known and rightly so!

In regards to this comment, from what I've seen post wise from @Damocles, I believe he means no malicious intent.

However, it did strike a bit of a chord as I am one of those who is unable to donate and my displease around the lack of ability to do so was amplified after reading the comment.

I've not worked for months, my business is destined to collapse very shortly. I'm not even sure if I can pay the staff I have left this month. Let alone all the bills and house payments I have to pay for myself. Just another burden created by tinnitus leading to the spiralling anxiety and depression.
I'm sorry things are as bad as they are for you right now. I don't mind telling you and the world that about 18 months ago the situation my side became so low with tinnitus so bloody loud, grating and unrelenting that one evening I broke down in tears at home and literally smashed my head against the wall. It was like I wanted to smash the goddam noise in my skull into a million boney pieces.

Mrs. UKB witnessed this event and was quite shocked by it. So much so I think she finally had to acknowledge how serious our unseen condition is and how gross its effect on us can be. As you know, worsenings are insane, and tinnitus V1.0 is NOTHING compared to V2.0 for me.

I have to say that fortunately I haven't hit a lower point than that particularly grizzly evening. In fact things have improved (non linearly) and become more more stable (in my ability to deal with the constant onslaught) and I suppose happier.

I'm self-employed like you. I've always been able to work through this but it has been easier for me to do so because I don't employ staff. What I'm trying to say is that in my opinion you can't hold yourself responsible for the welfare of staff when facing your own serious health issue. And grating tinnitus/hyperacusis is a serious health issue - even if the rest of the world doesn't recognise it. Your responsibility right now is to you and you alone, and mostly it's to navigate the storm of this condition and find calmer waters, if only in the spirit of how you live with this condition. I really hope things improve for you man.

Thank you for sharing that, you didn't need to go out of your way to do so. To which I'm extremely grateful for.

I definitely see a lot of similarities there between us, 'tinnitus 1.0.' I didn't even see it as an ailment, I can't even remember the volume of it or the intrusiveness but I know it was there in quiet environments and, other than avoiding concerts and listening to music at moderate levels, I never once thought about noise exposure, as it had no effect on my tinnitus. Version 2.0 as you say is a completely different beast, the volume is insane and it's adding noises and changing noises regardless of what I do, I now understand what tinnitus really is.

Seeing posts like yours give me some hope that I'm at my worst now and it can still get better (mentally at least). I completely agree with you that I just need to focus on myself for the time being but of course it's easier said than done. All I want to do is go back to work and return to my previous life that I'm deep in mourning for.

Being self-employed, out of curiosity if you don't mind sharing, what is it you do/did? I'm a tradesman so the likelihood of me going back into building sites and resuming my career seems unlikely at this point.

I've got some property that I rent out and do general maintenance on that so loud powertools at times (double hearing protection) but nothing like working on site and certainly not as prolonged as an 8 - 10 hour day.

If you're in the trades, the thing I'd say about that is that those kind of skills stay with you forever and can be utilised in so many different ways and in different setups/environments. It's not neccessarily the end of the old life, perhaps a transition where you can take aspects of the old into the new.

Those are the best earmuffs on the market in terms of noise attenuation for that price: Peltor Optime III. And very comfortable to wear. Wearing them helped me a lot too at the darkest of times.

Was it spooky?

I love watching people explore abandoned properties on YouTube. Adam Mark Explores is a good one. Shame where I live there doesn't seem to be many abandoned properties for me to have a mooch around!
Yes! Someone I was with did most of the upstairs exploring as I was afraid of the floor condition lol. They said it looked like someone was sitting on a chair in one of the rooms. Which it could have actually been a person, who knows.

I watch those on YouTube too! There's not many places to explore around here either as I live in the capital, but we were out of the city when we found this.
