MuteButton

We should also do a transcript. For many people reading is much more comfortable than watching a video; it is searchable; easier to share and save; etc.

Transcripting a video is a LOT of work so we should divide it up and do it ourselves. Is anyone willing to help with this once the video is out? I'll gladly do one part, if we get a reasonable number of volunteers (so that one volunteer only has to do a couple of questions).
I already wrote Markku that I would help with subtitling :). So count me in.

Above is from MuteButton I... seem familiar?

I too am skeptical due to their first device's failure. Obviously they thought they had a successful device back then too... otherwise they wouldn't have sold it.

They think they have another success right now, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work.

@Markku is also seeking volunteers for transcribing the Q&A with David from the BTA:
The only thing that won't make to the video are subtitles. It takes around 5-10x the video length to subtitle a video, meaning it would take approx 5-10 hours for this one.

I have so many others items on my task list, including Monday's Neuromod Q&A and editing it, that I can't spare time to subtitle this.

I know it's unfortunate for those hard of hearing - and indeed I have usually strived to subtitle our videos.

If there is anyone in our community who would like to volunteer their time to create subtitles for this video (and maybe some of our future ones), please get in touch with me. The volunteer would need to have some previous experience with subtitling software, or the technical ability and willingness to learn. Subtitling isn't just about transcribing, it also requires syncing the lines to the speech, which can be time consuming.

If nobody steps up to the plate, I guess I will need to do it myself, once again... which I possibly can do when things slow down over the Christmas period. It is thankfully possible to attach SubRip subtitles (.srt) to YouTube and Facebook videos after the initial publication, so that isn't a problem.
Don't mean to put words in anyone's mouth, just thought it may be helpful if I'd link these.

I volunteer to transcribe ten minutes of any video, figure it should take an hour?

Markku or Hans or whoever you can PM me.

@Markku was looking for help to do this!

@Markku I somehow missed the post where you were looking for help with subtitling/transcripting the Neuromod video - glad to see there's an "official" effort for this, I volunteer to do 10 minutes of it.

Thanks @Manny and @Deamon22 for also volunteering :)

Hi Steve - Any idea of launch date?
January next year is the plan. In Ireland first.

Heroes! @Markku are you excited from what you have seen yet? And @Steve are you excited?
Yes. The whole field of bi-modal stimulation excites me. It's the missing ingredient (even though it may not be for everyone), giving the brain a kick to say "hey, listen to this and stop making that bloody noise"

I too am skeptical due to their first device's failure. Obviously they thought they had a successful device back then too... otherwise they wouldn't have sold it.

This is addressed in the video, the first thing we discuss is the reasoning of coming away from the market and what they learned from it.

As @Markku has pointed out, we did get through quite a lot in the Q&A.

The original plan had been to go to the clinic to try out a device but the time got eaten up so I tried it out less formally in the office. There was just so much that had been asked and we wanted to make sure we answered as much as possible of the Tinnitus Talk questions.

Me and Markku did a screen share earlier today to go through a few things, the production is progressing well and as usual Markku is doing an excellent job, it's looking great so far! We could have just sandwiched bits together but frankly that would have been a bit crap. Instead this is a situation where you will all be pleased that Markku is a perfectionist as he is inserting questions and will be indexing them so you can easily find the parts that interest you the most.

Of course it's easy for me to ask everyone to be patient, because I already know all of the answers :D

You gave up your opportunity to test out MuteButton in the clinical setting so you could make sure you got all our questions in?

You are a better man than I.

@Steve

Can't wait for the full Q&A :) !

Can you share what the prognosis is for those with severe hyperacusis?
  • No hope
  • A little hope
  • A lot of hope (e.g. Neuromod claims it works even better on hyperacusis than tinnitus)

I'm guessing not much because they use high sound levels?

Use high levels of sound? How loud and where did you get this from?

Just working on the footage, started yesterday 6 pm, went to bed 2.30 am, and continuing now. Trust me, giving this my full attention. Unfortunately I just caught a cold, but I am not letting that stop me.

We are not just going to stick the raw footage together, there needs to be a bit of structure and thought go into this. I was given nearly 90 minutes of raw footage, and since I was not there when this was filmed, I will also need to consult Steve on a few things.

Take care of your cold @Markku!!! Take time to do it right like you are doing now. And thank you to both you and @Steve.

In countries with poor economic conditions it is a lot of money. 3,000 USD is approximately 120,000 Argentine pesos. A well-paid average worker earns about 30,000 or 35,000 pesos per month.
It's a lot of money in any country dude. I've started working on my pitch to my folks for an advance of whatever money they might be able to throw my way when they buy the farm / throw a six / cark it.

The amount of hype for this is ridiculous, especially considering we have seen zero efficacy data. I don't even think this will work to lower tinnitus volume.

Up and down like a yoyo on this - It's unreal... The hype is being brought about by the upcoming Q&A which looks like it divulged quite a lot of positive info.

@Steve is a very credible character and if he is excited then I have to admit so am I.

Only a few weeks and I'll be trying it - Beats cutting the auditory nerve on the ear any day if it works... Plus they should have the return policy if it doesn't work after 12 weeks...

Let's all be positive here - This could be it folks! Against all the odds this could be it!

We are so desperate, I agree :(

Maybe because of the work of University of Minnesota and Michigan this one seems to bring something "new" to the table... I fear @RCP1 is right saying this might be the same device as the previous MuteButton... would be so sad to say the least if that's the case...

I'm really looking forward to the Q&A to have something more to convince me it's legit.

I would pay this price even if it only helped me while using the device, to say the truth... I'm that desperate.

And knowing I have had chronic tinnitus for the last 14 years with multiple tones in both ears, I believe in my case this device won't be super effective anyway.

reste fort, mon ami. Le traitement est à venir.

FX-322 is made to regrow hair cells and restore hearing which will probably eliminate most tinnitus cases. The hype should be with this.

A doctor in South Korea claims that he can cure tinnitus with growth factor injections into the ear, which would presumably achieve the same results.

We just need someone to fly there and test the waters.

@Steve has big biceps too.
