I still don't understand why they haven't tried the celebrity method. If the product works, I bet most famous musicians with tinnitus would love to promote it after having used it, especially if they get paid for it!

There is a stigma around tinnitus with musicians and actors since they work in loud environments. It may affect their ability to perform their jobs in loud environments, which turns into a liability which means less work for them.

Unless your Already as massive success and don't care about working or as self sufficient like Johnny Depp, who doesn't give a shit about money at this point, you don't talk about it as openly.

Johnny Depp is supposedly almost broke :)

Sorry, but I do not agree. By posting videos of success stories, they feed the expectations. You can't speak and not expect a dialog to ensue.
They seem to be building up the hype knowingly, on purpose.

That's actually quite detestable, manipulating tinnitus sufferers like that. (n):arghh:

I couldn't agree more if I tried. Somewhere higher up I compared their strategy to that of Apple hyping the release of the next iPhone.

Also, if they feel pestered, there is an easy remedy: communication.

Just as a matter of a thought experiment. What is the alternative? Quietly release it to audiologists below the radar and let stories start to trickle in hoping tinnitus patients wander into their clinics? Or start an awareness campaign in advance of the release ensuring that there is actual demand for the product upon release? I agree, some more information would be great, let's get this show on the road, but I don't believe they have acted completely in bad faith here. Granting an hour or so interview to an activist group is a pretty good faith effort if you ask me, but I'm with you, let's see this thing in action.

IMHO, it's not worth publishing updates until something new happens. Sure, the obsessive like us would love to be a fly on the wall, but do we need to know exactly what they're doing every moment of every day? How realistic is that? When they reach the next milestone, I'm sure they'll say something. Until then we have to just cool our jets.

I mean, there's a bunch of musicians who have already spoken out about tinnitus, why not just ask them? I'm sure Chris Martin would appreciate the opportunity to diminish his.

We have already reached out to some well known individuals regarding tinnitus and have yet to hear back. The ones we did hear back from declined.

Based on conversations with other individuals who have agreed to interviews, they have expressed a stigma around tinnitus in their fields, which is why people are hesitant to talk about it.

@Jack Straw Have we got any idea what causes this stigma?
I think it creates a liability for them to be apart of projects in the future. Famous people (actors / musicians) are usually apart of loud noise environments a lot more than the average person. If they were unable to perform in those environments, it will affect their ability to get jobs / work. This make people not want to talk about it.

Is this new info? Maybe we will know more about the trial soon. The guys presenting are from Dublin/Neuromod.

Good find. This could be the first step in them talking about their results. If that is the case, then we should see stuff soon as it most likely means that they are probably done, or almost done, deciphering through TENT-A1 data!

This must be one of the high profile conferences Ross O'Neill talks about in the Q&A with Neuromod presenting their data from the TENT-A1 Study.

Susan Shore will also be there, didn't see Dr. Josef Rauschecker's name on there, probably because he's got nee money.

Also there is a presentation from Otologic Pharmaceuticals, who are going in phase 2 for noise blast injuries before or shortly after. These guys also received almost $2million from the DoD and have got a regenerative product in the pipeline.

Also, there is a presentation from some other clever Asian dudes with electrical stimulation to suppress tinnitus, although they seem further behind than Huberto Lim.

Why? We're not talking about a technology which has been claimed anywhere to "shut off tinnitus". This is about reducing the hyperactivity in the DCN that drives the phantom noise, not eliminating it. That's a very significant distinction.
Tell that to @Clare B who claimed in this forum that her tinnitus is completely gone. So complete elimination is a possibility, however unlikely.

I don't know if this is new info, but it's a nice find. There are eight different tinnitus research talks at this event.

Respectfully I'll believe it when I see it in the literature; I give almost no heed to individual self-reported anecdotes (including my own).

Errr. Let me think... oh yeah the medical industry blaming it all on depression and the BTA and ATA depicting it online as something anyone can overcome with positivity.

If a celebrity admitted they were suicidal and tortured by tinnitus they would be lambasted as pathetic and out of touch with the awful daily struggles of people with more 'serious' problems which in reality are small fry bullshit compared to this daily hell.

But nobody in the real world knows this because the gatekeepers of tinnitus don't admit it. It's like some hellish underground club where you only get to see the true extent of the nightmare when you've passed through the door... and then it's too late to leave. You're locked in forever and while you scream to be let out you've got good old David from the BTA behind the bar and Chris Martin dancing around like a fool and that woman who heads up the ATA snogging William Shatner on the dance floor and all of them are telling you to relax and have a good time and it's not so bad. And all you want to do is headbutt them and fuck off home and go to bed and get some sleep and this nightmare to end.

I don't mean this to sound harsh, but there speaks someone who has NO idea of how unreliable early reports in the medical literature often are.

If this didn't hit the nail square on the head.

Spot on Bam!

Why are celebrities with tinnitus always complete arse'oles. Every single one.

I can't help thinking:

"I WISH THEY ACTUALLY HAD TINNITUS, AND I DON'T MEAN THAT PRETEND VARIETY THAT APPEARS TO BE SO ENDEMIC THESE DAYS, ALMOST LIKE A FASHION ACCESSORY - THIS YEAR'S MUST HAVE CELEB SYNDROME!!!"

I still haven't gotten answers why there is not much media attention to this bimodal neuromodulation. Even making a comment to the BTA was met with a no comment.

I've been down this road before and it led to nothing.

Like @Bam says, it's overlooked for a truly debilitating condition, to just something someone can learn to live. I regret telling anyone about my condition because when I tell them I get remarks like "no wonder you're depressed" and "oh I couldn't live with that", well thank you for cheering me up.

In musician circles I think it's considered par for the course.
