This calls for a 'celebratory cartoon!'

Tell you what,
I'll let all yous into my little secret;

Lull them into a false sense of security,
'Oh - 'ees such a nice man, really, etc...,'
Then kick 'em in the shins,
Then you have to talk the buggers round again,
Ready for the next bout.....x

I need to know if hearing regeneration will solve noise induced pain.

Looks like street food. What part of Seoul are you in?
I was in Gangbuk, right next to Solsaem where the clinic is.
My apartment:

Not street food, it was from a little restaurant where they have a huge variety of stuff really cheap. It was about a 2 minute walk from my apartment.
It's the one to the right of the 7-11.

The people there were super nice to me even though I only know "annyeounghasayo", "kamsahamnida", "bangapsamnida", and "annyeounghikisayo".

My translator app on my phone was very helpful. I have Bixby vision which translates text in augmented reality but sometimes it was totally wrong. One of the menu items showed up as "dandruff". I hope they werent serving that but if they were it was good.

That's very unfortunately true in many cases. There are some that get it but it seems like a good proportion of Christian's are just a worldly as everyone else. Basically everyone I met in Korea was Christian and very nice to me. There are churches all over the place. Where I was is denser in churches than the Bible belt were I live.

@JohnAdams - I remembered you have a strong faith from a number of discussions with you perhaps a year or so ago.
My lovely misus has an unshakeable faith, whereas I am completely agnostic, still, and likely to remain so.

This does make me very sad to see korea go christian. Same with China but at least Japan was wise enough to keep it's cultural religion. It's sad to see christians trying to convert everyone (Same but worse with muslims).

I am very happy for you @JohnAdams! You have more guts than me to do something like this. Please keep us updated with the progress as well as information regarding the whole process such as contacting them, going, preparations that was needed etc.

I am very interested to hear as well as I assume the rest of the forum! I hope you keep getting bettter and better!

Edit:

I said it before but please make a whole separate thread with all information so everyone can follow along. I am sure there will be a shit load of questions!

idk how I feel about DL. He can be pretty based and I like how he is critical of the CCP and mass immigration in Europe. But nebulous statements like this aren't a reflection of what it really means to be a Buddhist.

I have no idea what being a Buddhist means, but I know what that statement means, and have no argument with it myself.
Like Christianity Buddhism is a religion with specific doctrine and beliefs. Ofc this is one of them to an extent, but it's not the core of Buddhism or the only "true" religion. He says things like this to win over westerners but it paints a false picture of what were really about.

That's a recent development- say in the last 15 years. The government has made an effort to teach English in school.

My son is in the US Army and Korea was his first assignment after a year in Ft Benning. My husband and I went to visit him and it was a real adventure. He was stationed there 10 years later and again we went to visit and the people were so different. The school kids in Insa-dong came up to us and asked if they could practice their English. People on the subway asked if we needed help getting around. If we hailed a cab the driver would pick us up. And we didn't alway need the menu with the pictures!

Most of the Christians in Korea are Presbyterian, but there are still plenty of Buddhist Monasteries around, there is one in Seoul. Many of them started to rent rooms to tourists during the Olympics and have continued to do so. Now you can arrange a temple-stay, but you have to follow their way of life- sleep on the floor, get up at the crack of dawn, eat every lost morsel of rice from your bowl, etc.

Gangbuk looks like an older neighborhood and your accommodations look very Korean. Bet you had a wet bathroom and a little entrance alcove where you were supposed to leave your shoes!

What's sad about bringing people to Christ?

I don't think Buddhism necessarily conflicts with Christianity, because Buddhism is a way of life, Buddha is not a god, there is no god per se. What's sad in Korea is that Christianity was seen as the religion of the educated or upper class and there was a tendency to look down on the old ways. I suspect that may be true but it doesn't have to be.

What I think is sad is that the psychologists have taken mindfulness which has it origins in eastern religions and selling as a treatment. I better stop there or you'll figure out what I think of psychology as a science.

Exactly. especially true with the mindfullness stuff. Because clearly, a couple monks in the mountains know more about psychology then the west's best researchers. Clearly.

Only a deep understanding of psychology can unravel severe mental illness.
It is both a science and an art form. IMHO.

If you're going to rely on psychiatry you might be slightly better off to start saying your prayers.

I commissioned Ben Garrison to make some fan art for us.

I told him everything that goes on around this forum.
