My Posting Place

I like Linux and use it as my only OS, I just don't like software I use to break during updates. Do you have a favorite desktop environment/distro?
I know. I'm familiar with the experience. I currently need a new computer.

I was using Ubuntu. It might not be the best but has arguably the largest user base. So, you can ask questions or just discuss whatever you want. Be careful about ranting though.

I was using Gnome but I hope I can get a new computer soon. I would try something else and expect to settle on KDE, XFCE, or Cinnamon.

xfce is old fashion and lacks modern features though it uses next to no RAM.

GNOME and KDE are both great choices depending on user preference.

Cinnamon has memory leaks when working on heavy processes or going along time without refreshing the DE.

I have keyboard shortcuts for cinnamon that execute scripts. Two for convience, The first autohides the taskbar and the second minimize all windows behind the current. (Like Windows 7's aero shake)

Regarding Cinnamon's memory leak, I had to make a bash script that refreshes the entire DE during 10 minutes of inactivity to prevent Cinnamon from having memory leaks. I've been using cinnamon for like 8 months or so. Overall KDE Plasma is superior to any DE imo.

Very interesting information. Thanks.

I will try KDE first. I didn't know about the leaks. I think a lot has changed with the DEs. I was going to try the new Ubuntu Cinnamon but maybe I will try Kubuntu first. I think it's still criticized for its implementation of KDE but I will probably try it anyway.

What do you use? Mint, maybe?

yes I use Mint which is technically Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Cinnamon

Distros don't matter, it's the software or whatever DE works for you. Distro hopping is a bad unproductive habit. Don't fall for the meme. With Ubuntu's Long term support you have to voluntarily update software using a PPA or .deb packages in order to keep certain programs up to date.

Was reading old pages of MPP (because this is what my life has become in lieu of any active role I can take towards this debilitating disease) and god damn it's still entertaining. It would be dope to see a documentary of people coping through coming to TT and MPP.

Once this shitshow is over and we're all good and cured (better be <2 years) I'd love to throw a stupid dumbass party where we can play music without any fear and get fucked up without first having to consult the god damn ototoxicity handbook.

TRT CBT and ACT and all similar neuropyschological models have far more to do with economic damage control then the patients well being.
