There's nothing wrong with psychologists helping people cope with tinnitus just as psychologists help people cope with many other illnesses and disabilities. The problem as I see it is that research money that should be going to otologists (or neurologists or whatever -ologists deal with the physical causes of T) is going to psychologists. Organizations like the ATA should focus on the ear not the psyche.
I felt sick to my stomach when I visited their website and saw this.
Exactly! We all want a cure for tinnitus. Why aren't we focusing on that? Our researchers and institutions seem to be very focused on emotional processing of tinnitus instead of actually doing something about it. I can't figure out why this disconnect even exists don't they have tinnitus too?

This is such good news. It's starting guys. Our hopes are being validated.
This is just too awesome. Not just because FTX got a huge grant (although that's amazing too) but because the US military, the most funded federal agency, is showing interest in restoring hearing. This is a pretty big landmark.

That's exactly the reason why this is the greatest news. It means that the military believes Frequency Therapeutics' goal isn't futile and could succeed. They wouldn't just throw around a $2M grant for nothing. All the talk about no treatments and no cures in our foreseeable future is pretty much down the drain at this point.

This is happening. My hope is fully restored.

Certainly has, but they're still going to beat that horse guaranteed. "There won't be a cure in our lifetime so get used to it peasant". The last few pages of argument just proves that.

I'm all for habituation for whom it works, but in my eyes, habituation = stagnation. We could have habituated to life in any sort of bad condition, but it's human nature to try to solve problems and get better. We could have habituated to hunting animals instead of breeding and farming. It's just progress, and tinnitus is up next.

I don't care about proving anyone wrong about anything. I just want what we all need, and what we, by all accounts, are going to get.

Sooner or later, we're gonna hear that silence again.

I had no idea Frequency was in Woburn, my home is only 15 minutes away from their office :'D

I should pop in and ask to get my shit injected.

EDIT: Another fun fact, I work on the same street as Boston Dynamics. I've never seen their robots outside IRL yet though :(

That's awesome. Must be awesome that you can get updates in person. For the rest of us the best we could do is sent emails that are usually ignored.

I wonder if I could do that... it's pretty great being near Mass Eye & Ear + all these crazy research groups but it's actually kind of hard to get any information out of them. Maybe I should go as a journalist and interview them

>Year starts out with Susan Shore's device showing amazing success
>Big frequency theraputics victory shortly followed
>Made a ass out of himself at the TRI
>Research paper is late
>Military is reluctant to cooperate with his research in military hospitals
>And now the US military gave a $2,000,000 loan to Frequency Theraputics.

...And the year isn't even half over. 2018 has not been kind to a certain greedyboi.

I have to tell you good folks, that anytime you show a cute little "puddycat" picture to TFF, an amazing transformation comes over him - he turns into a close approximation of a human bean!!
I am working on fixing that undesirable bug

You don't know how bad I'd like to smash that door

I really hope they come up with something sooner rather than later. I'm tired of having to give myself pep talks to leave the house. I'm tired of not being able to have fun with my kids. I'm tired of worrying about everything, like going to my son's graduation...in 8 years (ridiculous I know). I'm just tired. For the love of all things holy (I'm not religious by any means btw), please let someone come up with something so we can have some peace and live normally.

(I've been in a really bad mood the past 2 days because of this shit. I'm over it.)

This post is amazing... so many truth bombs... waking up isn't always the worst thing in my life when I read news like this

Silence will be ours again

Sushan Shore's device seems really interresting and I'm really looking forward to see that kind of devices hitting the market althought "showing amazing success" is still maybe a bit too much saying at the moment let's see what future studies and trials will (hopefully) show

Amen to this. I'm so tired of this as well. Like I have good moments, but they only remind me how life used to be and how it could be so it's painful to get just a small taste of it every now and then. And it also enforces the feeling that yeah, the life really ain't worth it anymore if it's shit 90% of the time when it could be fun 90% of the time.

And even though I'm hopeful, the sad thing is that well educated and reasonable part of me knows that it will take a few years at least until the drug hits the market, no matter what fairy tales we tell to each other here. So it is really a battle everyday and I hope I will the day when the cure comes, but at this point, I don't know anymore. We'll see...

At this point, any research that's shown promiseing results is an "amazing success"

also isn't it obvious that hearing loss has more to do with damaged synapses and less to do with hair cells. From What I understand growing new hair cells will come with new synaptic connections but the old ones are still damaged.

Thats why I'm more interested in applications for hidden hearing loss like Decibel and Otonomy are developing.

Todays been a little too positive, to keep things negative I have to remind everyone that you are not applicable for
Frequency Therapeutics if you can hear 8000 hz tonal noise in a quiet room. Dr. Normie Mick Norman concluded that you have perfect hearing otherwise. also forgot to mention Frequency does not cover mild hearing loss so your hearing has to dip up to
5,500 hz to matter. It doesn't matter if high pitch noises sound like mumbled garbage or you have tinnitus that sounds like electronic fog, you are just going to have to learn to live with it. As long as you can hear your boss telling you to get back to work you are good to go and do not need F-tx's services.

some one needs to do the math and figure out the DOD's total budget compared to the 2 million they spent on hearing loss research and what would the equivalent be if one of us were to donate to figure out how cucked we are
