Solsaem Clinic (Dr. Minbo Shim) Experience

Not worried what other people think.

Their opinions are exactly that, their opinions.

At least I feel like I'm doing something.

I've tried fasting (like you wouldn't believe) and a ketogenic diet too.

That was going well until further noise exposures brought more tinnitus and more tones.

Because of playing the piano (and the organ and guitar), I haven't got a classic NIHL 4 kHz notch.

Instead it's all over the place because the instruments are tuned and have a large range.

Perhaps those deep near piano busting Beethoven chords weren't such a great idea after all!
Just take very good care of your ears while you're in transit.

@JohnAdams

Have you ever discussed some of these new compounds that we're all having to wait years for with Minbo Shim? As a researcher, he'd probably be allowed to access them from the manufacturers and run his own trials on willing patients. He seems quite proactive in this regard.

So I am in Seoul and had my first treatment with Dr Shim.

Let's see what happens.

I've got noise induced hearing loss from working and playing piano in noisy environments.

My tinnitus is frankly insane with tones from low humming below 100 Hz to hissing at 10 kHz with stuff inbetween.

When my tinnitus first started I immediately stopped doing noisy stuff and it was only in the right ear with a steady G beep. After six months the left ear started too.

18 months down the line I've got ringing, hissing, humming and beeping!

I've also discovered that avoiding loud sounds whilst leading a normal working life is nearly impossible.
Keep us updated!

I'll most likely make a trip sometime this coming November or February next year.

Thanks. I wear earplugs all the time if there's a busy road or something. Seoul's subway doesn't seem hugely noisy (unlike London's) but plug up in case. My hyperacusis went a while ago now but so did a load of hearing. I wouldn't mind a little deafness. It's more the torment of tinnitus and the spectre of a worsening and degenerative condition!

I wish the best results to you. I am cheering for your team!

As of now, my tinnitus in my right ear has gone from two tones, a high hiss around 12-14 kHz to almost gone. Also in my right ear was a distinct lower tone at about 6.5 kHz and that has diminished to basically nothing and I have to plug my ear to hear it.

He spent the last few days focusing on my left ear which was way more jacked up. I have the same two tones in my left as my right, and I had suspected a lower tone for sometime and it was very clear in the audio booth. They determined that tone was about 250 Hz. Yesterday in the audio booth I noticed that tone was gone. Now the hiss, which was in the middle of my head has moved primarily to the left side.

My left side was the side facing my guitar amp when my acoustic trauma occurred. I am already very satisfied with the improvemnt in my right side, now I'm just waiting/hoping for my left to catch up.
I just want to say congratulations on your road to recovery! This literally gave me tears of happiness for you.

I do have a question, with this prp treatment does the ringing turn into a hiss then disappear? Or does the ringing just disappear without turning to a hiss first?

Thank you.

It did begin to turn into a hiss. As I type this, I have no tones and a light hiss in my left ear. I have flare ups where the tone(s) come back but it usually only lasts for a few hours up to half a day or so.

Nice to meet you. I'm Korean.

There was no such information in the Korean community. I'd like to share some good information from this thread.

Thank you for sharing the good information and I hope you keep giving us feedback.

Hi friend, welcome to the forum.
So glad you are here and checked in on this thread.

Can you tell if Minbo Shim is considered a scammer in South Korea?

Or are South Koreans not suffering from hearing loss anymore, he fixes em all up?
How could he know any better than you? Have you ever used a search engine? Do you think all Koreans know each other?

There is no article about Minbo's PRP in the Korean community, so I've heard about it for the first time.

I have two articles about hospitals, but I don't think this is the most advanced one because I don't get any meaningful information.

There's only a question mark in the community about who's been treated.
Currently, there is no article about this thread in the Korean community, so I will follow up this thread and share it.

I am sorry that I am not good at English.:)

Kamsahamnida.

I've said this before but there is good evidence that PRP regenerates olfaction and those cells are LGR5+ just like cochlear stem cells. I think I posted evidence before that IGF-1 which is in PRP acts on LGR5+ cells.

How much did you pay?

These flare ups happen 1/10 days right? I remember you mentioned something about that.

Hi brother,
How are you coping with the injections?
Load up on protein and some fresh juice, keep your immune system cranked.
Hang in there, we're all pulling for you.

Thanks.

I'm coping. Just cooking myself a beef stir fry with veg, garlic and chili. Meat is surprisingly expensive in Seoul!

Tinnitus is loud. Like really loud. Ears feel blocked but I've had that for ages now.

My audiogram shows that my ultra high frequency hearing is ******* ********. 12 kHz to 15 kHz is badly damaged. I already knew that though. I can't hear anything above 12 kHz.

Most of my other frequencies are sitting around 15-25 dB.

The ear shots don't hurt too much. Bone marrow extraction is unpleasant.

Had 5 days of treatment now. Should be at least a week before I begin to notice anything.

Went for a long walk in the surrounding hills. The subway is easy to use and the scenery is really pretty.

Thanks for the info... I feel for you, the injections sound like a doozy as well as the marrow extraction.

It may take a few months to notice a difference.

Did you get audiograms prior to your trip?

If you did, great, if you didn't... no worries, your health is most important.

Sorry your tinnituz is so loud, I can relate.

How many injections have you had? I am surprised you didn't faint, I think I would pass out... you are very courageous.
Don't overdo sightseeing and whatnot, just lay low... the mountains sound like a good call.

Keep us posted and thanks for staying in touch, it means a lot to me and a lot of sufferers here. Thanks again.
