  • Went to my nephews award ceremony for school not realizing it's a theater school. I stepped out and watched from hallway. Proud of myself
    BrOKeN_1
Way to meet em halfway. You should be proud you didn't just leave.
    Shelbylynn
@BrOKeN_1 I'm grateful the staff there were accommodating to me. There was a hard of hearing student who had to sit in the hall as well so it worked out
If I laugh pretty hard occasionally my right ear will make a weird noise or something. AND IT SCARES me everytime. I think allergies.
Well I didn't come out of my "bar moment" unscathed.. not due to tinnitus. Rather, I got bronchitis. Well at least I get a new inhaler.
I went to the bar for the first time in 2 years since I got t. Two bars actually. All I can say is thank god for patio seating and earplugs
Hi fellow buzzy friends. Tinnitus still here but Zoloft made it where I really can't care about it. I'm the :| emoji about it now
    Shelbylynn
@Jupiterman So i still use db readers when appropriate or if i'm nervous about a place, and i wear plugs if I feel uncomfortable with the noise level. And I still won't go to clubs or indoor concerts. I am considering outdoor music events.
    Shelbylynn
@Strawberryblonde Aboslute life savers for me tbh! And honestly I think I would have done very well on them years ago but that's because I have preexisting mental health issues rather than just T :)))
    Shelbylynn
@Joe Cuber thank you! and I honestly can't thank you enough for your support in the early days because it honestly made all the difference for me. I really needed that logical and safe reasonable voice.
Drop you favorite sound decibel measuring apps or devices below! I want to use the best.
@Shelbylynn Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Jenna Ortega from WEDNESDAY
    KoolKat
@Shelbylynn If tinnitus wasnt such a burden or it didnt exist i would say go get that IG tik tok money
    KoolKat
@Shelbylynn i had to do a double take, im like oh crap tinnitus done got Wednesday too God dam lol, fun fact did you know alot of A listers got tinnitus too but for some reason dont really care to spread awareness..
    Shelbylynn
@KoolKat haha if there is money in looking like her then i should definitely bank on it.
I watched my first movie the other day, as an Ari Aster Stan I had to watch Beau is Afraid. 3 hours long with plugs.
    T
I've heard that's one weird movie. Recommend or no?
    Shelbylynn
@tpj It's probably the weirdest, longest movie I've ever seen. I don't think I could recommend it though because it's pretty avant garde but it was hilarious.
Hi, we are in super close distance to each other! I am keeping my "ear open" to anything happening that may be cutting edge over at Stanford! My name is Sarah, by the way. Nice to meet you Shelby. =)
    Shelbylynn
Hi Sarah! Pleasure to meet you! Glad to have a tinnitus friend so near!
Love your taste in movies @Shelbylynn.

    List in CCAT was epic.

But damn, that Hard Candy was a difficult watch...
    Shelbylynn
Ahhh, thank you! Glad somebody appreciates it! Oh yes, Hard Candy was difficult! But something that really left an deep impression. Love ones like that.
    So happy for you mate.
I've got this T since last October

I read yours was also like mine where its reactive to external sound as it happens.
I've also got kinda like 3 tones
Ones a ring ones a hiss and there other is chirps
Iam hoping the reactive side calms down and I can live with what's left
In a dark place atm with this.
    Shelbylynn
Take all the time that you need. It's a struggle but I think with time things can improve. It's just hard to keep up the hope. <3 Im sorry to hear that. Sending you healing
Hi I have a cold but I'm ok. I wanted to say hi also zoloft has helped me so much. My tinnitus doesn't bother me anymore. yay.
    Shelbylynn
@Joe Cuber Hi! Long time no see! Yes it's working much better than I could have ever imagined. I'm honestly kicking myself for not tying it sooner. :))) Thanks for all your help and assurance that helped lead me here.
    Shelbylynn
@Joe Cuber Yes! I notice that although it's still present, it's almost like I can't hear it because my brain finds it completely unimportant and uninteresting. I think it's starting to want to filter it out more as time passes. But I don't think it's any quieter in reality? unless i am Physically healing .
    Shelbylynn
@Joe Cuber Yes I am! I am still trying to figure out how long I want to take these, but I really don't mind them at all. I think I have a neurotic disposition as well as prior mental illness that just made tinnitus a more agonizing condition for me. Now w/ my mental health under control it's much better. I don't think my neurotype would allow habituation before.
Hey @Shelbylynn, how are you getting on with the Zoloft?
    Shelbylynn
Hello! Thanks for checking up on me that's really sweet of you. I'm doing very well! It has been SO HELPFUL. My anxiety has reduced so much like 70%. (Prob part of why I've been MIA) Has not effected my t. (YAY) I feel so much better. I'm going to increase to 75mg from 50
    Shelbylynn
I will let you all know how that goes. Hopefully better and doesn't effect t. So far hasn't. None of my daily meds have (lisinopril) (allergy meds)
    BrOKeN_1
Glad to hear your getting on well with your meds. Your mental wellbeing can certainly make or break you with this condition. Cheers!
Hmmm can't tell if my t is louder cause it's night and quiet or cause it's actually louder, only right ear…. Annoying. So far it's been good
I'm dogsitting for a friend. A puppy. I haven't even had time to think about my ssris or the t. It's just been "DROP THAT!" this week
    BrOKeN_1
    Lol. Love It!
    SmallRonnie
I've been minding a kitten recently and it's a really nice distraction from problems. Might just keep it!
I'm mad at t today cause my fav band announced a 25 year album anniversary tour. I have a friend that I can visit in LA too. Damn you t!
    Shelbylynn
@kingsfan like idk how stable/unstable healthy/unhealthy my t is with that level of noise even though I absolutely have fam who have t who don't do any caution with their hearing. I just can't really risk it considering this is how I got t. However I NEVER used hearing protection... but like I said no way. I wish it was an outdoor thing with room. Even that would be better.
    kingsfan
Yea none of those venues are very large. They are larger than an average club show though, but those speaker stacks are pretty scary. The ticket price is also scary - lowest I see is $155 for GA, $200 for Mezzanine.
    Shelbylynn
Hey! Saw your post in the introduce yourself forum. The cause of my tinnitus is similar to yours and I was wondering how your ears have recovered after two years. I had somewhat of a setback yesterday (loud house party) and my tinnitus spiked.
    diegooo
@Shelbylynn Honestly not doing too bad right now. I can't tell if it is back to baseline. I did not wear plugs to the party but I spent most of the time outside (according to my Apple Watch it was averaging out outside to like 83 decibels). I came into the house for a bit, noticed how it was a bit too loud, and left after like 8 minutes. ...
    diegooo
... I checked my watch data and at one point it apparently peaked at 104 decibels. It was mostly in the mid 90s range though. I'm scared this caused some damage but I can't really do much atm. I kinda want to avoid parties/drinking because I tend to lose my fear of tinnitus when I am tipsy. Idk if you can relate to that lol
    Shelbylynn
@diegooo Well that's good, you're likely alright then. Yeah I can definitely understand. I kind of avoided parties for a while because it tends to be loud but for ones I made it and just use the bathroom for breaks or step away at times.
My new method of dealing with sudden noise incidents is pretend it didn't happen and only worry if something changes with my t or ears.
NAC is a good friend to me even if it's some placebo effect I feel like it helps.
    BrOKeN_1
I still have yet to NAC. Maybe it's time.
    in_LA
Been taking some as well as B12, honestly at least they'll protect you from further damage in the future. And I've noticed my ears feel more stable.
    Shelbylynn
@in_LA Maybe I should start with some B12 as well.
Is there like some form of acceptable live music with t? I know live music was my triggering event but life is so colorless without it.
    in_LA
I have palinacousis and I'm supposed to see Canons in September over here in LA, and my gf is unwilling to accept that I may not be able to go. My issue has turned my life upside down, music is my life, and having to hear it at below average volume saddens me. Colorless is completely accurate.
    Shelbylynn
@in_LA Hey, music is a huge passion of mine so I completely understand. It's a devastating blow. Your feelings are completely warranted.
    Shelbylynn
@in_LA I feel like I'm still in a tailspin and confused about how to proceed from here and I got two 2 years ago. IDk, if it feels like an identity shock. I hope we can both find ways to let music back in our lives safely.
Not even the 4th yet and I'm hearing explosions everywhere. That means 2 more days of this? Hooray
    Damocles
    You'll be alright @Shelbylynn.

Just make sure you're always wearing hearing protection outdoors, and always have ear defenders nearby you when you're at home.
    Shelbylynn
I've been ok, surprisingly more quiet than last year so far. I live in a more secluded area that is farther from other houses (not much but better) so It's a LOT better and reduced volume due to that. The illegal ones aren't being set off right next door like last year.
    Shelbylynn
Definitely gotta be weary once the sun goes down cause that's when people set them off! I haven't been outdoors in the evening in a few days because of it though.
Tinnitus at its worse when trying to sleep. I can never tell if it's louder or I'm just tired. I've had a loud week so it's a bit amped
    Shelbylynn
@El BUZZ Mine too. If I sleep in it makes it a lot more tame, if I don't get sleep or get really tired it seems louder. could be perception but it does affect it for me.
    Robster
Lack of sleep definitely makes mine louder the next day. Mine also gets louder as the day goes on, so is at it's loudest when I go to bed.
    in_LA
I believe in brain plasticity, hopefully in 6 more months your T will be softer, definitely do whatever you can to keep yourself at a baseline, suplements may help you. Mine has gotten softer over time, I always took ginko and magnesium, and helped keep it at a baseline.
I was wearing silicone ear plugs while driving on freeway and went over a 2-3 min patch of bad road, is the occlusion effect damaging?
    kingsfan
I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as it wasn't for hours at a time.
    Lurius
Shelby, you need to not worry so much about whatever comes your way. Anxiety and constant worry will probably do way more damage than every little sound. I say this with the best intention. Obviously don't go to a metal concert unprotected but try to lower your shoulders and worry less. If something is insanely loud you can take measure, but every small thing is not worth fussing over. Hope you have a nice day.
    Shelbylynn
Thanks everyone for chiming in :) I don't typically wear plugs driving anyways even though my cabin is fairly noisy online cause I don't drive long enough to warrant it
