Okay, point taken. Have you tried to use noise cancelling headphones instead of earplugs? There should be no amplification of bone conducted sounds with them. At least not to same degree.
Human ear is pretty good at comparing sound levels. We judge absolute sound pressure quite poorly, but in AB test one decibel difference is usually recognized. So comparing by ear should get you into same ballpark. Of course comparing to 120dB environmental noise would be foolish and kind of bad...
No way your own voice goes to 120 dB with earplugs. I am too lazy to dig out any scientific proof, but anybody can test it by comparing 120dB noise with yelling with earplugs on. I can see how the occlusion effect could be a problem when you have hyperacusis though.
I would pay $2800 if my tinnitus would go away and stay away, guaranteed. If t was the only reason for this operation I would not do it. Just my 1/100 x 2800 cents ;)
I just finished reading a book of Lemmy of Motörhead. He used to play with Damned, they called that lineup "Doomed".
Lemmy said something like (sorry have ti re-translate) his ears go deaf, first the right one then the left. Obviously it happens quite often. Then he says something like "I have...
@Derbytia, I've had those thoughts too. It is a long tedious process, but after a while you will be just fine. The sound will lose its terror no matter how ugly it is. Just believe it.
It is a huge annoyance, but it won't define my life any more. I am not ok with it, but it won't stop me doing my thing any more. For the first 12 months or so it felt like a hot needle in my brain. That sensation gets duller little by little.
Remeron aka. Mirtazapine has helped me a lot. I need 1-2 more (than usual) hours of sleep with it though. Very small dose (7.5mg) does it for me. Sleep is crucial.
Edit: sorry, no experience of the meds you mentioned.
I think I am in this club. But at the same time I think it is a matter of time. Even though I feel constant distress, it is not as soul crushing it was one year ago. I am just a tad slow, that's all.. 17 months of constant awareness of alien screeching thus far.. I surely hope this is not as...
Speaking of sound waves and auditory pathways, isn't it incredible how efficiently living creatures convert soundwaves into frequency perception? In engineering perspective this is a Fourier transform that demands some heavy computing. And even insects do that. Obviously we have a little fault...
Sheesh, this is a bs affliction.. But in my experience those thoughts will fade away after a while. Annoyance lasts quite a bit longer, but that is manageable. Stay strong.
I do not know the cause and cannot put a number on loudness, but on a good day it is a 6 kHz whine in my left ear. On a normal day it is a 13.5kHz beep and even higher frequency electric hissing filling my head. I can hear it in a plane taking off or in a field filled by cicadas and crickets. It...
I play gigs, my tinnitus have not got any worse or better. I use custom earplugs with 25 dB filters because my threshold of pain has reduced to 90 dBA. Do some experimenting, start slowly, you will find your way.
All the best,
