How Many of You Have Also Herpes Simplex Virus?

HSV1 long before Tinnitus, but my ENT stated the ear infection that started all this was viral and probably one of the herpes virus. I've had chicken pox/shingles too, but got a shingles vaccine a couple of years ago. Also had EBV early in life. If I were to guess, I'd guess it was HSV1 because...

    Pulsatile Tinnitus After Being Floxed

I just wanted to quickly share this with everyone. I got pulsative tinnitus ~6 months ago after taking Cipro/Prednisone. My reaction to those drugs was really bad .... I also got severe depression/anxiety, heart palpitations, muscle twitches and jerks, tight chest, etc. I was basically...

    Acceptance of Pulsatile Tinnitus

Hearing aides helped me a lot ... I have widex zen and keep the zen tones on all the time. If there's any noise I can't hear the tones, but if it gets quite, it distracts me from the tinnitus. It's rather soothing. To be honest, it doesn't bother me as much as it use to ... but it has gotten...

Does Caffeine Make Your Tinnitus Worse?

T is a funny thing ... it's hard to pin point the cause of all the spikes, but I believe caffeine (coffee) makes mine worse. If I have more than one cup in the morning, the T seems more intense later in the afternoon ... but I can't swear to that. It could be something else I've consumed during...

    What Has Improved Your Tinnitus?

Massages helped me a lot after I initially got T. My back & neck were in a knot ... especially after the T, and the massages helped me relax. Also, riding my bicycle a lot. I can barely hear the T with all the city noise and wind, so I'd forget about it for a while. I'm also taking vitamin D...

My Tinnitus Is Back Because of Antibiotics

Sorry, I wasn't clear about the cause of my T ... it started with an ear infection. The T didn't really shake me up until the end of the Cipro, start of the prednisone. My GP was treating the infection as a bacterial infection (3 weeks) and Cipro was the last antibiotic I took before I went to...

    Prednisone Tinnitus Spike Permanent?

I got a big spike in T after taking Cipro, followed by prednisone (60 mg tapering over 2 weeks). It has calmed down since. I think it was the combination of drugs, and there effect on the CNS, that caused my problem. I've taken them separably with no issues, with a big gap in between, but I...

My Tinnitus Is Back Because of Antibiotics

Cirpo can also lower GABA and Serotonin, so that might explain your reaction: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25902267 I took Cipro, followed by high doses (60 mg tapering over 2 weeks) of prednisone, and my T got a little worse when on Cipro, and started screaming when I took the...

    Hearing Aids Are Helping Me

Be careful with the Benzodiazepine drugs ... they are very addictive, and if you take high doses over a long period of time you increase your changes of getting dementia/alzheimer's. Might want to check out http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/. Just be informed ... By the way, I took Xanax...

Feeling Like I Can't Do This

Benzos (including klonopin), allow the body to more efficiently use GABA, but also causes the body to down regulate GABA receptors over time. That's how tolerance builds, and your need more drug to get the same effect. In any case, its my understanding that unless you've taken it a very long...

For Gods Sakes... As Soon As I Start Habituating...

I also had a dull pain in my ears ... during and after my ear infection was treated ... that would come and go. It has become less and less frequent. Initially it happen multiple times a day, and now maybe once or twice a week. My PA just told me it took a long time for ears to heal.

Feeling Like I Can't Do This

When did you get off the klonopin? Did you take it long? Did you taper off? I'm took Xanax for a month before I started to taper, and each taper my T gets louder, but so far, each time it has settle down after a couple of weeks. On the Benzo Buddies site they note T getting much louder if you go...

Steroids: Prednisone / Dexamethasone / Others (Oral and Intratympanic Injections)

I took 60 mg/day, in one dose ... Did that for 4 Days, then move to 40 mg/day, etc. You should do this under the supvision of a doctor, just to make sure you get the right dose for your size, and/or in case you have negative side effects.

Need a Dr in Dallas, TX That Knows How to Treat Pulsatile Tinnitus!

I know this is late @PamR, but I live in Dallas and I'm going to The Dallas Ear Institute ... they focus on ears, and have a Audiologist who focuses on Tinnitus. I just recently got T, and started there, so I can't give a lot of feedback ... but they appear very understanding and willing to try...

    My Seventeen Years with Tinnitus

I had a viral ear infection and during the acute phase (about 1 month, while I was taking antibiotics - which of course didn't work) , my tinnitus would go from 0/10 to maybe a 3/10. The first day I took 60 mg of prednisone, it went to 10/10. It was intense, and not only that, I had a bad...

Steroids: Prednisone / Dexamethasone / Others (Oral and Intratympanic Injections)

Well, I had an ear infection, so it was a different situation. So for me, my ears were "stopped" up for 3 weeks, and my T was low to moderate. When I took the prednisone, and my ears opened up to sounds they hadn't heard in a while, and the T got very loud ... but it went back down to lower...

Steroids: Prednisone / Dexamethasone / Others (Oral and Intratympanic Injections)

My ENT started me at 60 mg for 4 days, and then I tapered off, spending a a total of 12 days on this drug. You may have some side effects (they're dose dependent), but hopefully not ... just wanted to make sure you were prepared. I'm a big guy, so maybe the 50 mg that @Stefan K recommends...

    My Tinnitus Is Completely Gone

@Alue ... thanks for the advice. Most of what I've done to try to reduce the Tinnitus has been rather conservative, but I understand your points. The 3 things that helped me most, besides the prednisone (which opened the ears), have been the Xanax (T disappeared when I first used it, but...

    My Tinnitus Is Completely Gone

Well, it's still a "little" broke ...but it's gone from 10/10 (screaming after I opened my ears up with the prednisone, after messing around with antibiotics for the first 3 weeks with the GP) to about 2/10 worse case now. Like everyone else on here, I certainly don't want to make it worse ...

    My Tinnitus Is Completely Gone

Yikes ... second day taking the EGb 761, 120 mg, and my T spiked! Also, gave me a little bit of a headache. My T has been fairly low lately, and disappeared Saturday night, before starting on this. For full disclosure, I've had T for ~3 months, following an ear infection. Also, I had an extreme...

Do You Take Something for Depression or Anxiety to Deal with Tinnitus? If So What?

I had extreme side effects from high doses of prednisone and ended up in the emergency room on day 5 .... but, in any case the anxiety was the worse of those side effects, so I asked my GP for Xanax. It was the first time I ever took it. I basically used it like a sleeping pill and it took my...

Can Someone Give Me Sleeping Tips?

In the first 2 weeks I had Tinnitus, Xanax helped me a lot, but it's addictive and you build up a tolerance pretty quick (2 weeks), so you have to add more to get the same effect. I've only taken it for 1.5 months, but I'm in the process of getting off of it ... down to 2 x 0.25 mg (which is...

Besides Benzos (Klonopin, Xanax, Valium, etc.) What Is Something I Can Take to Calm My Anxiety?

You might try Magnesium Citrate ... I'm working to get off Xanax, and when start to feel a little antsy after going to a lower dose, it seems to help: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/evolutionary-psychiatry/201106/magnesium-and-the-brain-the-original-chill-pill

Pulsatile Tinnitus, Stops When Pressure Is on Back of Neck/Head?

I can also make my Tinnitus go lower if I put my hands behind my head an pull forward. Mine started with an ear infection (both ears), but I think mine may also have a somatosensory component ... so I shared the following with my massage therapist, and it helped me a lot ... didn't get rid of...

Prednisone Made My Tinnitus Worse :(

I had a viral infection in my ears, and that's when the Tinnitus started. After antibiotics, from my GP, I went to an ENT and he gave me prednisone and an anti-viral. Not only did my Tinnitus go to 10/10, but I had a horrible reaction to the high doses of prednisone. I've taken much lower doses...

What Feelings Do You Get When Your Tinnitus Bothers You?

If I'm tired, and it won't let me sleep, anxious and a little depressed. If I've had a good night's sleep, probably more annoyed. But to date, my Tinnitus is lower in the morning, and increases during the day ... especially around city noise ... so I'm sure their tied perceived volume as well.

Do You Experience These? (A Few Ways How I Can Temporarily Decrease My Tinnitus)

I've had Tinnitus for about 7 weeks, that came on during/after a viral ear infection. Because of the short amount of time, I'm still trying to figure mine out. During the infection/treatment, mine would probably peak at 10/10 ... it was driving me crazy, but if I was in a quite room, it would...
