2020 US Presidential Election

Question for Trump supporters, if it were found that Trump's recent movement disorders (e.g.. Trouble drinking from a glass of water one-handed, extreme forward posture, rocking while standing, trouble with ramps, etc) were found to be due to something like Fronto-temporal dementia, would you support his removal?

I love that the US election is now a choice between two geriatric men with signs of age-related cognitive decline. Seems symbolic somehow.
Not a Trump supporter but I'm going to say probably not based on:

1. The Trump people have a very cult like obsession with Trump. They'll call it fake news and ignore it.
2. Democrats just nominated Biden even though he's been pretty on and off since the campaign started and if they'll support a guy with fucking dementia, I'm sure Trump's cult will.

The previous elderly Democratic candidate showed signs of health issues and it was simply labeled a conspiracy by many in the media, so I doubt his supports would have much of an appetite to question anything outside a sure thing that was irrefutable.

@FGG -- Sounds like relatively minor stuff compared to what we've already witnessed.

Apparently they go through medical examination, but when one is the president of the US anything is deemed benign :)

Clinton for instance used hearing aids, which I find inspiring. There's hope for people with hearing problems: we can get into politics!

Which is understandable. Honestly, I'm voting for Biden despite the fact the guy has dementia, so I can't blame Trump voters for voting for an unhealthy man.

THIS RIGHT HERE! Intellectual honesty! We probably disagree on issues, but this is what is sorely lacking in the US, civil, intellectually honest debate. Thank you for brightening my day.

What a hypocrite that guy(?) is. This thread would be amusing if one was normal (i. e. w/o this condition).

Yeah. Nothing about Hillary or Biden Mr. Touch by this Democratic crowd. Both candidates were hand picked and it was rigged. But, both sides (i.e. supporters) are so oblivious and biased, that it's always a clown show.

I have yet to hear anyone laud Biden. I wish Trump voters would understand the serious issues with their candidate.

I agree. The country needs to come together without attacking each other. You seem able to do this but I have been in situations where I will criticize an action or policy or Trump and it will turn into personal attacks. It sounds like you have been witness to the same on the other side.

It's like the whole country turned into a Cubs vs The White Sox bar brawl but with politics.

I voted for Trump in 2016, actually I've voted Republican for 30 years. No more. Trump and his right wing supporters has turned me away from the party.
I don't think Biden will make a great president, maybe not even a good one,
but there is no option for anyone with more than two operational brain cells.
Biden is more intelligent, more stable, better educated, more experienced,
and just a better human being than Trump.

That's a good point, not many praise Biden. He kinda just seems like a candidate everyone was just okay with. Compared to Trump voters who seem praise him to no end and treat him like the best president ever.

This could hurt the Dems tho, there's a clear enthusiasm gap between Biden and Trump.

This.

I don't like Biden, I don't expect much from him.

But atleast he's only incompent, as opposed to a deranged, raving pyschopathic narracisist like Trump is.

I think the more we can get away from criticizing people, the better off we will all be. People are humans, they all make mistakes. Some are likable, some are not. If they've been around long enough, there will be contradictions in things they've said/done, and for various reasons. People are only the conduits through policy measures are implemented.

He's spent a lifetime in politics and the same problems still exist. What is the definition of insanity again?

I don't know man, there's times where it seems he doesn't even know what he's saying, nor does anyone else.

In an environment with free press, it is more likely that a small group of people are brainwashed than a large group.
There really is no "press" anymore. There are just dueling activist groups who pretend to be journalists. For instance, NPR has decided to shift its broadcasting to regularly scheduled "white reeducation" programs like this.

I resent being preached-to by news outlets. Just the facts, mam.

I find myself at present alienated from both parties, just slightly less alienated from democrats (at least mainstream democrats).

Below is a review of the upcoming book by Donald Trump's only niece Mary Trump. Sounds like it could be a harrowing read. I'll be curious if she delves into Fred Trump Sr.'s involvement and belief in eugenics. -- Trump's Dad Was So Racist, Woody Guthrie Wrote A Song ...

Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man - July 28, 2020 --
by Mary L. Trump Ph.D. (Author)

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald's only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world's health, economic security, and social fabric.

Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents' large, imposing house in the heart of Queens, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.

A firsthand witness to countless holiday meals and family interactions, Mary brings an incisive wit and unexpected humor to sometimes grim, often confounding family events. She recounts in unsparing detail everything from her uncle Donald's place in the family spotlight and Ivana's penchant for regifting to her grandmother's frequent injuries and illnesses and the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump's favorite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer's.

Numerous pundits, armchair psychologists, and journalists have sought to parse Donald J. Trump's lethal flaws. Mary L. Trump has the education, insight, and intimate familiarity needed to reveal what makes Donald, and the rest of her clan, tick. She alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider's perspective but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world's most powerful and dysfunctional families.

@FGG
Maybe you don't follow the news but wasn't it Hillary and the DNC who bought the Steele Dossier which started the whole impeachment mess? And it was all BS!!! Yes Hillary has allot of power behind the scenes... she's still very relevant within the Democratic party.

I'm not a Trump supporter but its the choices we are given... Do we really want Biden? He's been a politician for almost 50 years what legislation has he passed or basically what has he done in all his time on Capitol Hill?
Americans don't have much of a choice again in this election.

I'm not American, but a vote for Trump is literally a vote against human rights (of any minority/marginalized group). No, I don't think Biden (or democrats in general) is great either, but at least with one I wouldn't have to fear my life and/or rights in a country like America.

That's all I'm gonna say here, I'm not looking for a debate - this is just my personal view and the view of my many American friends.

Huh? Impeachment was about Ukraine and not Russia.

I have yet to hear anyone laud Biden.

I saw Meghan McCain speak with Margaret Hoover on Firing Line, in which she referred to Joe Biden as a "Grief Whisperer". I just did an online search, and found the following:

"Joe Biden is the grief whisperer - he both understands and communicates the struggle pain unlike any other person I've ever met. A leader who understands raw pain and knows how to heal it would be a welcome and needed change in our country," McCain wrote.

McCain, 34, has been open about her grief following the death of her father last year, the late Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain. -- Sources close to the McCain family told the Washington Examiner that they plan on endorsing Biden for president at some point. Cindy McCain, the widow of John McCain, denied the report. Meghan McCain said in a July interview that it would be "very tough" not to endorse Biden.
Do we really want Biden? He's been a politician for almost 50 years what legislation has he passed or basically what has he done in all his time on Capitol Hill? Americans don't have much of a choice again in this election.

I'm not sure it's as much a matter of what he's accomplished legislatively, as to whether he has even a shred of decency in his heart--something I think the U.S. (and the world) desperately needs in the next U.S. President.

That said, my understanding is there's been no greater advocate for women's rights, and the protection of women than Joe Biden in the past 2-3 decades. He also was (uncomfortably for the Obama administration) out front during his time as VP in advocating for LGBT civil rights, and their legal right to marry. I feel pretty confident he's a big believer in having international allies, and treating them with respect. I feel pretty certain he believes that global warming needs urgent attention. I'm pretty sure he believes in science, and values the environment. These are all pretty big issues, and contrast sharply with the current administration.

It also seems he's very cognizant of his age, and the limitations it may place on him and his Presidency. He's apparently already addressing that, and I was heartened to hear about his advocating for bringing into his administration a new generation of leadership. It was my understanding he intended to delegate unusual autonomy to many of these young leaders. I'm hoping Cory Booker will be part of his team in some prominent manner, as he also has always put a big emphasis on cooperation in working to solve the nation's problems.

Joe Biden would not have been my first choice, and I do have my concerns about his overall health. But I can't agree that Americans don't have much choice in this election, as I think the contrasts between the two candidates are extraordinarly stark. -- Regarding Biden's cognitive function, one important thing to keep in mind is that he had a serious stuttering problem when he was young, and part of the way he speaks seems to be some residual stuttering effects. I think too many people are jumping to the conclusion of dementia instead of taking that into account. I'll take his cognitive function of Trump's in a heartbeat.

Actually Joe Biden's had a fairly successful time on capital hill. He's chaired multiple powerful committees and passed very influential legislation such as the Violence Against Women Act

I'll have my local library put this on hold for me.

To say you'd have to fear for your life because of Trump is hyperbole. It's sensationalist statements like this that are creating extremes on both sides.
