On behalf of the followers of Reverend Gerry Falwell, Mary Whitehouse of the League of Decency and on behalf of the Moral Majority I take unction at the portrayal of pornographic material on our screens. This practice must cease at once! :woot:

Listen here Joeseph… If you are making an innocent picture of an Owl doing his avian "ole" stance and turning it all smutty, that's on you Pal! Seek help for the love of God! Us tinnitus folks have enough to contend with without this downright disgusting accusations of a poor innocent bird just living his flamenco dream. It's always the ones who protest too much who have something to hide...

Anyone got any good psychological thriller movie recommendations? Or how about books in a similar genre?
Hi I'm going to give you a chunky list because I'm a horror fan. I'm a suspense and mystery fan. And I'm a thriller fan. Having an interest/formal education in psychology, I do enjoy my psychological thrillers. I'm going to assume you've seen most of these but just in case:
  • Sharp Objects on HBO - mini series
  • Hard Candy
  • Mind Hunter - series, I fell in love with Holden (Jonathan Groff)
  • The Silence of the Lambs
  • Get Out
  • A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) - there's an American remake but it's not as good
  • Rosemary's Baby
  • We Need to Talk About Kevin
  • Prisoners
  • Zodiac
  • Midsommar
I'm probably forgetting some but these are for now. :)

Amazing! I'm a huge psychological thriller fan. In books and movies. Especially when there's a little bit of romance and crime thrown in.

Loved Sharp Objects! My middle name is from Rosemary's Baby haha. And ohh, Prisoners is so underrated. I actually haven't watched Mind Hunter, but I think it's one I added to my list awhile ago.

If anyone else is into this genre, here's a little list I put together;

•Sightless
•The Devil All the Time
•1408 (more scary, but amazing)
•What Lies Beneath (2000)
•Perfect Stranger
•House at the End of the Street
•Dream House
•The Others
•The Invisible Man
•Ratter
•The Night House (new fav)
•Berlin Syndrome
•All I See Is You (so good)
•The Lodge
•When a Stranger Calls
•Side Effects

I just read Verity by Colleen Hoover. I'm not sure of the writing, but the story was cool.

Is that the theory of warp speed too?
I don't think so. Both relate to faster than light travel, but they differ theoretically in the way it's achieved. Worm holes are basically shortcuts through space-time that allow you travel from one point in space to another without ever crossing the space in between the two points. Whereas, warp speed involves a complex propulsion system that allows you travel faster than the speed of light which warps the fabric of space-time in the process.

Different concepts.

@UKBloke, this scene from Interstellar has the most accurate depiction of how wormholes are supposed to work.

Theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne, worked on the film.

Oh wow, I'm so jealous! What a cool origin story for a name. Yes, Prisoners is totally underrated. The mood and tone in it is so dark.

I'll have to watch some of these! I'm happy to be recommended something, especially after a while it can feel like you've seen all there is to see (which is funny because it's likely impossible but at least that's how it feels at times).

Appreciate it!

I'm still trying to work that comment out, E, lol.

Anyhow, hope you and the missus are doing OK.
OK ya Bloke, I was only explaining from experience. I've spent many days with my invisible friends. We've drank whisky together. I was always the first to pass out. I don't understand where they went. The feckers.

We are doing good here, I've taken on a big project which should last all summer. A friend wants a real log cabin built. So we cut 46 trees and are now just finishing getting them peeled to dry. When I was in America I built log homes after I had been injured working in the woods felling trees. So for this project we will do a full Swedish cope which will result in a very tight constructed build.

Mrs. Elmer is happy because I'm not in her hair and driving her mad.

Wish you well. Hug the Mrs.

Really?

Oh sh#t in our defence my man, being a little above bottom is actually better than being on the bottom (could insert rude joke but I shall refrain) so it is kinda optimistic... though the picture of the talented man holding the pew pew machine says it all.

Non awkward group hug...

Well umm... three people left humour smilies on my post which is what was intended.

Mary Whitehouse passed on twenty two years ago. Rev Jerry Falwell died sixteen years back.

We are now in the internet age and if anyone wants stimulation, just do a google image search of "pretty girls"... You can find stuff a lot even more revealing than that on the world wide web.

I'm not one to criticize, I must bear in mind that most people on this site are suffering from noise hypersensitivity, tinnitus and hearing loss... but if I could quote footballer, Johnny Giles: "As you get older, you should learn to not take yourself too seriously."

I was joking mate, my bad... I left a funny on your post as well

My humour doesn't always translate great over erm "text," well it probably doesn't translate well in general :cautious: I was being sarcastic ha ha... Yeah me and football are clueless but I agree with that quote. I very rarely take myself seriously, I mostly chat utter bolloxs man, most of the time you will need a degree and an ancient translating device to decipher what I say on here anyway...
:D Could say something but I'm too shy...
Hmmmmmm shy you say... Somehow I highly doubt that...

I never knew you construct log homes. That's amazing. I've been rediscovering woodwork this past couple of years but nothing on the scale of building a home, although I'd love to take a project like that on. What do you do for footings for a log cabin, is it something like concrete footings for a brick house, or more like posts in concrete similar to a decking construction, or does a habitable log cabin even have footings?

All the homes we built were set on a permanent foundation, then wooden sub flooring setting on 10x2 floor joist. When that was complete, we took the biggest log and sawed it in half using it for the starter logs. They get bolted to the flooring system. Then the first logs are laid on top of the starter logs and the saddle notches are then scribed in and then cut out to sit tight on the starter logs.

Any type of foundation will work as long as it is able to support the weight.

The important thing is that the flooring at the gable ends are doubled and the 10x2 nailed together. The gable ends carry all the weight of a log home.

Elmer
