Chit Chat and All That...

Well. Looks like my state just went into lockdown. We don't have that many cases, but we're next to all the states that have major out breaks and we have shit for healthcare.

Hoping that you're safe. This virus is hitting everyone hard.

Beautiful workmanship, Elmer.
Love the lamp AND that nice wool blanket. ;)
@OnceUponaTime there's 3 of those blankets, the mrs went on a shopping spree, to cover a large sofa we had that we got rid of, it was too large for our cottage, me no say anything about wife shopping 275 euros later, they are nice, straight from Irish woollen mill.

@OnceUponaTime and @aot Ha-ha. I thought it was something new like closing down our borders. It's just the same old same old. They just needed to make it official.

We get most of our supplies in Utah, so a border lock down would be bad. We just went during Sam's Clubs Senior shopping hours this morning. We got some supplies for us, but mainly others in the neighborhood. Just got done dropping off everyone's stuff. I'm really nervous about my Grandfather. He's had pneumonia numerous times. This December he had a really bad respiratory thing and it wasn't pneumonia. The doctor took it really seriously though. He was still getting over it in January. But he thinks he's invincible.

Sorry I couldn't be on too much today, guys. My girls and I were super busy sewing surgical masks to send to our local hospital and NYC hospitals... they urgently need them and are asking anyone that can sew to please do so. They prefer these because they can wash them in hot water and re use them.

Brilliant good on you every little bit helps you should be proud for what you have and are accomplishing.

Great job! Those are excellent!

Thank you guys!! I should mention that my girls deserve most of the credit. They have been cutting the fabric and elastic and sewing away. They are so happy to help in any way they can. Plus keeps them busy.:LOL::love:

We are making more today. My poor finger...hahaha:LOL::inpain::inpain:

@OnceUponaTime Keeping busy is good. Yesterday I got done hanging up 3 new shelves in the pantry! This morning bright and early I cleaned the chimney. It's all about goals and keeping busy. Even experimented with new breakfast smoothies.

Plus, last night I started my rewatch of the new Star Wars trilogy so I'll be prepared when Redbox finally releases the last on. On my Birthday!! It's gonna be great. Star Wars and a special batch of my brownies!

Our governor announced a state-wide "stay-at-home" order that goes into effect at midnight tonight and to last until May 4th. Only necessary trips, such as to get groceries, pharmacy, gas stations and things like that. It's not as restrictive as a "shelter-in-place" order.

Additionally, all non-essential businesses are to close for that same time-frame. They provide the info that defines "essential" vs "nonessential" on the state news and government websites.

So, I'll be going out to get a pepperoni pizza tonight before the deadline!...;)

I should say, although I live in the middle of Russia, I am actually an Englishman.
What are you doing living in Russia? Do you speak Russian?

On your profile you wrote "how do you want to be remembered". For some reason I can't answer that there. My answer is: I don't want to be remembered.

My dream headstone would say "Fuck off" on it.

It's a long story Bill, one I don't particularly want to tell here. I will say though that I've been here for many years and that my wife is a Russian citizen (although not ethnically Russian).

Yes, I speak Russian. I think it is a must to learn and speak the language of the people you live among. My Russian was getting to a pretty good level, but since the birth of my first son I've been speaking English much of the time as I want him and his younger brother to be bilingual so my level has gone down (before that I spoke only Russian for 10 or so years except when talking to my parents). Hence, I've decided to set aside time every day to study it again to bring it back upto par and to take some more exams.

No idea why you can't answer on my profile page. Maybe we have to be following each other or maybe I have the settings set to private somehow.

It's funny you should mention a headstone as I've been thinking about them. Here, as you probably know, they have an engraved image of the person on the headstone, whereas in the UK many people nowadays prefer being cremated. By saying you would like a headstone surely means you want to be remembered at least to a degree?

Hey guys!!

We've been working hard these past few days. My finger is throbbing after sewing so many masks!! 60 so far... I need elastic!!!!!!! Lots of elastic! Just ordered 100 yards online so until it arrives production is on hold... Hopefully I can rest my finger. :inpain:

Our local small community hospital is overwhelmed. We are hoping these masks can help a little.

How's everyone here doing??
Stay safe gang!
Warm hug.

@Shera how you like the Wonder Woman one!? haha

Great stuff!

Do these masks have to be made of any particular material? Could you give me a quick rundown of what I need to do to make one and size it correctly?

I don't care what happens.

When I travel to places that have cemeteries that were founded during the 19th century (e.g., Genoa's Stagliano cemetery), I try to visit them. Usually you get to see beautiful statues. Its nice, peaceful, and quiet at the cemetery! ;) Having admired hundreds of unusual headstones, I wondered what kind of headstone I might want, and that's the best headstone design I could come up with. :)
I will say though that I've been here for many years
Are you happy about being there? I know that (for now?) the average citizen is probably worse off there compared to the average citizen in North America, but hopefully your circumstances are different.

There is something magical about cemeteries. Although I don't go out of my way to specifically look at cemeteries, once I'm in one I feel like I want to know the stories of all the people who lay there. I'm sure I would feel differently though if it was one of my immediate family who lay there.

I'm not in the slightest bit religious, but here, as you know, there is radonitsa when many people go to cemeteries to celebrate and remember the deceased members of their family. It's quite a spectacle seeing people eating and drinking and toasting the dead at graveside. As part of my wife's family I also take part in the tradition, although I never drink.

I could answer this question in many different ways depending on what context I decide to take. I will say though that it has been an experience to say the least. One which has given me a wife and children and a new language.

Having lived here for half of my adult life, I still can't believe that, it has given me a wider perspective on things: one from which I can criticise and appreciate things about my own native society and culture and the one here too. There are things I definitely do not like here, especially the overall lower standard of living and the constant propaganda and the willingness to fall for a cult of personality so easily, but at the same time I have met many wonderful people here who are just going about their life as best as they can. I can't hate a whole people or a whole nation just because of the hand they have been dealt.

All that said, I would like to leave now. This has been made considerably harder now though due to the appearance of my new and noisy roommate last year. I always thought I would end up in Canada or Alaska. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up in Russia.

Hey, @all to gain , thank you!

Here's a link to the pattern I am using. Super easy to make.
Lots of doctors and nurses and firefighters are using them over their n95's to help them last a little longer.

Do you have a sewing machine?

I can't see the link. Yes, my wife has a sewing machine.

EDIT: I see it now. Thanks.
